Prime Day Deal: These HexClad Knives Are My Most Used Kitchen Tools and They're 20% Off

CNET10-07-2025
If you've ever struggled with a dull chef's knife that smashes more tomatoes than it slices, I promise you there's a better way. For me, that better way turned out to be HexClad's Essential Damascus steel knives.
They're gorgeous, perfectly balanced and ridiculously sharp. And even better, right now this six-piece set is 20% off on Amazon for Prime Day, down to $351. If you've been waiting for a sign to upgrade your everyday knife set, this is it.
Why I love my HexClad knives
I used to think all knives were basically the same. That is, until I got my hands on HexClad's Essential knife set. The first time I sliced into a ripe heirloom tomato, I barely felt the blade glide through. Herbs don't bruise. Raw meat cuts cleanly. Dicing onions? It's practically therapeutic now.
Beyond how they perform, these knives just feel good. The pakkawood handle fits perfectly in my hand -- no slipping, no awkward grip, just total control. And they're so striking that I actually leave them out on my magnetic knife strip. They're too beautiful to hide away.
Hey, did you know? CNET Deals texts are free, easy and save you money.
What makes them different
HexClad's knives stand out because they're the best of two worlds: Japanese craftsmanship for the blade, German engineering for the build. Each knife is forged from 67 layers of Japanese Damascus steel, giving it an edge that's razor sharp and stays that way longer than any cheap knife I've owned.
Each blade is hand-sharpened using the Honbazuke method, a meticulous three-step process that produces an ultrafine 12-degree edge, meaning effortless slices every time. The Rockwell rating clocks in at 60-plus, meaning they're harder and more durable than your average supermarket knife.
The pakkawood handle isn't just there to look pretty; it's infused with resin to prevent cracking and shaped for a comfortable, secure hold. Add in the steel bolster and full hybrid tang, and you get incredible balance and control with every cut.
Specs at a glance
A quick look at why these stand out:
Japanese Damascus steel: 67 layers, forged for strength and beauty.
Honbazuke method: Hand-sharpened to a super-sharp 12-degree edge.
Hardness: Rockwell rating of 60+, meaning it holds its edge longer.
Pakkawood handle: Ergonomic, crack-resistant and shaped for comfort.
Hybrid tang and bolster: Better balance and controlled cuts.
Why you should buy these knives
I didn't realize how much a good knife could change the way I cook or how much faster dinner prep can be when you're not fighting a dull blade. If you cook at home, even just a few times a week, these knives will make your time in the kitchen smoother, safer and honestly more fun.
And while HexClad's cookware gets all the attention, these knives deserve their own spotlight, especially while they're 20% off for Prime Day, a savings of $88. If you're ready to treat yourself to the best knives you'll ever own (or give them to your favorite home chef), this is the moment to do it.

30% off good, handsome cookware? We don't deserve this 14-piece set

New York Post may be compensated and/or receive an affiliate commission if you click or buy through our links. Featured pricing is subject to change. I'm not one to swoon over a cookware set I haven't touched with my own two double-washed hands, but the SENSARTE 14-Piece Ceramic Cookware Set has me fighting the urge to 'add to cart,' especially since it's 30% off right now on Amazon. As a part-time private chef (and full-time cookware snob), I've cooked with enough high-maintenance pots to know what makes a good pan worth keeping. And when I see a full set that's non-toxic, nonstick, and doesn't look like it belongs in a college dorm kitchen, I pay attention. Let's start with the obvious: this 14-piece lineup is stupidly comprehensive. You get three frying pans, two saucepans, a saute pan, a stockpot/Dutch oven, and four glass lids, plus silicone utensils that won't scratch the surface or make you feel like you're cooking with a Barbie spatula. But it's the ceramic coating that's doing all the heavy lifting. Unlike some shady 'nonstick' options that peel like a sunburn after a few weeks, ceramic is naturally slick and safe — free from PFAS, PFOA, lead, and other chemicals I'd rather not ingest with my eggs. Amazon The SENSARTE 14-Piece Ceramic Cookware Set includes every pan you'll need and none you won't. Coated in a sleek, non-toxic ceramic finish that's free from PFAS, PFOA, and lead, each piece is crafted from sturdy die-cast aluminum for even heat distribution and lightweight handling. Silicone handles stay cool on the stovetop, and the clear glass lids make it easy to keep an eye on your simmer without releasing steam. Designed to be compatible with all stovetops (including induction), these pans are dishwasher-safe, oven-safe up to 550°F (lids to 350°F), and come with matching soft tools to keep the ceramic surface pristine. Ease and function for the win. Advertisement I won't sit here and pretend I've braised short ribs in this set's Dutch oven or flipped scallion pancakes in the saute pan, but I can tell you that the die-cast aluminum construction means it heats evenly, which is half the battle in getting a good sear or gentle simmer. And the handles stay cool, which might not sound like a big deal until you've accidentally branded yourself reaching for a molten skillet mid-risotto stir. Been there. Still have the scar. A nonstick 4-cup egg frying pan to elevate your DIY McMuffins to the highest of heights. You'll get a perfectly circular egg and be ready to open your own breakfast sandwich shop. Promising review: "This pan is incredible. If this pan started to wear out after only a year of using it, I would buy it again because I have used this pan every single day this year and it performs the same today as it did when I first bought it. I've made all kinds of things in this pan (mostly eggs), but I have made mini frittatas with fresh veggies, I've made perfect sunny side up, over easy, over medium, and well done eggs. I've cooked burgers in this, a variety of pancake types, bacon bits, and chorizo. This pan cooks perfectly on medium-low. It is so easy to clean. This pan has changed my life and I talk about this pan to everyone I know. Sounds ridiculous, but it is just that awesome." —John it from Amazon for $25.99. Or a stuffed waffle maker because hellooooo, a stuffed freakin' waffle?! Like, waffles stuffed with Nutella and bananas? Sounds fire. Or stuffed with fried chicken?! Don't get me started. A set of genius, nonstick, heat-safe sheet pan dividers that'll make meal prepping so much less dreadful. You'll be able to throw everything in the oven all at once and then just grab one of the little trays if your Brussels sprouts take less time to cook than your chicken. And there's no need to stress over cleaning it, because every removable part of this appliance is dishwasher safe! Grab those griddle cakes from Trader Joe's and let this bb cook your eggs and bacon while also toasting your little pancakes at the same time. McDonald's is shaking. I'm planning every aspect of my son's college dorm room with the moms of his future roommates. I wonder if we've gone too far.

My son is heading to college, so I'm in a group chat with the other moms of his future roommates. The moms are texting frequently, laying out their Amazon carts, and buying expensive kitchen tools. All the planning can get frustrating, but I know we parents are just struggling to let go. The first time I sent a son to college, move-in was simple. He shared a four-person suite. Two of his high school friends were on one side. There was a shared bathroom in the middle, and the university assigned him a roommate with the same first name. I never met that roommate and couldn't tell you his last name. The school provided most of what they needed, including furniture, a fridge, and a microwave. We added towels, bedding, a bathmat, a laundry bin, and a few basics. It was enough. They all settled in and figured it out. Now, my younger son is heading off to college. And somehow, a group text with other parents turned what should be a rite of passage into something that feels a little more like a wedding registry. The group chat started out helpful The dorm group chat began with a few moms. When three of our sons committed to the same university and decided to room together, one mom created a new thread called "Dorm Room Group." We invited our sons into the chat, too, but the moms kept the chat going. The boys occasionally chimed in, usually with something like: "Sup, mom." The chat was helpful at first. We shared orientation links, move-in dates, and dorm layout videos. One mom then found a Facebook post in a university parent group from a mom in Florida. She suggested we connect about making the woman's son the fourth roommate. "He looks normal! Maybe we should snag him! He might take you guys to Florida to visit," she texted the group. Our sons followed him on Instagram. He ghosted them. But then came the espresso machine The shopping picked up one summer afternoon. They started filling their Amazon carts with things I never even considered buying for my sons. They told me I should purchase a matching backup rug for the bathroom. They also informed me that they were already stocked with toilet cleaner and Scrubbing Bubbles. Then I got a text that made me a little jealous. It was a photo of one of the boys who got an espresso maker for his birthday, "for the dorm." I thought it was a bit extravagant for a dorm room; I didn't even have one in my own kitchen. But then I wondered what other kitchen appliances they might need. I've had my eye on one of those rapid egg cookers. The texts kept coming. We compared meal plans and even chose the dorm room color scheme. We discussed every aspect of our sons' future lives. They remained mostly silent throughout the chats. There's more than one way to pack The other moms in the group chat are thoughtful and involved. This is the first time they're sending a child to college, and they care. I do, too. But I've done this before and never wanted to be this involved. Maybe I'm just more hands-off or a little cheap. I sent my older son with what he needed, not a full redesign. His dorm room didn't need a theme. At one point, I texted the group: "My first roommate decorated her side of the room in clowns, and it did not occur to me to think it was weird. Or too weird, I guess." My dorm experience started in 1988. The walls were painted concrete blocks. My side had a lace-trimmed pillow, pandas, and a gorilla poster from my mom's teaching stash. The bathrooms were down the hall. It wasn't perfect, and it certainly wasn't social media-worthy, but I survived. My son will, too. They'll be fine, even if the towels don't match My son hasn't said much about the group chat, but I wonder if he and the other kids are overwhelmed by all the planning happening around them. I certainly get frustrated by it at times. When I suggested colors for his comforter and asked him what else he wanted, he just shrugged. "I'll figure it out," he says. And I think he will. We're all just struggling with letting them go to build their own lives. What we really want, I think, is proof that they'll be OK without us. But I remind myself that they'll be fine, even if the towels don't match or no one brings an egg cooker. What they really need can't be packed in a bin — and they'll figure that out, too, just like we did. Read the original article on Business Insider Solve the daily Crossword
