A GRAND NATIONAL legend and 'amazing woman' whose fairytale horse won a BBC SPOTY award has died at her home aged 92.
Tributes have poured in for Valda Embiricos, who co-owned 1981 Aintree hero Aldaniti with her late husband Nick.

Aldaniti and jockey Bob Champion completed 'one of the greatest sporting stories' ever 44 years ago when they won the world's most famous race.
Champion had beaten cancer and Aldaniti had miraculously recovered from a leg injury so severe vets thought he would never run again.
Their unforgettable win at odds of 10-1 was turned into a film starring John Hurt.
And Champion and Aldaniti even won the BBC Team of the Year award at the 1981 SPOTY bash.
Nick died in 2018 aged 81 and Champion remembered them both as 'just the most lovely owners who were a lot of fun too'.
The Racing Post reported Valda's passing, which came at her home Barkfold Manor Stud in West Sussex last Wednesday.
Her daughter Alex, a former trainer and jockey, told the Post: "Mum was invincible, strong, fearsome, kind, patient, fair, stubborn, a fighter.
"Her will to live and to give was relentless to the very end.
"If mum was an elephant she would be the matriarch of all matriarchs.
"She had a long, incredible and amazing life.
"I beg that I can try to fill those bottomless boots but I fear an espadrille is all I will manage."
Valda maintained a love of racing throughout her life and still had runners this year.
The Good Doctor, running under The Aldaniti Partnership banner, is trained by Ben Pauling and they had a win together at Fontwell as recently as 18 months ago.
The Cheltenham Festival-winning handler said: "Valda has been an incredibly special person to myself and my wife Sophie.
"She lived a wonderful life and was an incredibly courageous lady."
While a message from the racecourse posted on Facebook read: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Valda Embiricos at the age of 92.
"A remarkable woman whose support and passion for jump racing left an enduring legacy at Fontwell Park and beyond."
Punters were quick to pay tribute as well.
One wrote on X: "Very sad… but what a life!"
Valda leaves daughter Alex, sons Alastair and Euan, stepson Nick and four grandchildren.

Rossa Ryan's 'big sorry' after favourite ruled out when kicked at start by rival

Kinross was bidding for his third victory in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood but could not take part after being caught by Audience Kinross's attempt to land an extraordinary third victory in the Lennox Stakes was over before it started at Goodwood on Tuesday. The eight-year-old stalwart of the Ralph Beckett stable has amassed nearly £2 million in earnings, winning 11 of his 35 races. ‌ He had won the Lennox Stakes twice, in 2021 and 2023, and finished third 12 months ago when the race was won by Audience. Kinross was 3-1 favourite to reclaim his title in a field which also contained the John & Thady Gosden-trained. ‌ But Audience couldn't wait for the pair to clash in the race. He took Kinross out before it even started. ‌ The field was milling around behind the stalls, waiting to be loaded, when Audience made a beeline for Kinross and kicked out. His jockey Rossa Ryan dismounted and, after being examined by vets, he was declared a non-runner and was brought back in an ambulance. An eventful race went to 25-1 chance, the Hollie Doyle-ridden Witness Stand, a first Group winner on the Flat for Grand National-winning trainer Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole. Noble Champion was pulled up during the race after appearing to go wrong. He was found to be lame. A gutted Ryan said: 'I was nowhere near Audience and it just kept backing up and it backed up and just let fly at me. 'I want to say a big sorry to everyone involved. It was a bit of a freak thing. He seems fine but it's just a pity. It happened that fast, it took me by surprise. It's one of those things I'm afraid.' Winning jockey Doyle said: 'A great training performance by Jamie Insole and Dr Richard Newland, plus everyone back at home, to get this horse back on track, not winning in handicap company but in Group company. 'He has some really good form, is a Listed winner and, on ratings, he wasn't far behind Audience. He had quite a lot to prove but he stood up. It is a bit of a shock to the system but Jamie wasn't shocked.'

Neville urging fans of EFL clubs to back local small businesses

Neville has teamed up with Sage, Official Accounting Software Partner of the EFL, on a new UK-wide campaign to champion local businesses, with fans across all 72 EFL clubs invited to nominate the matchday heroes in their community. Three winning businesses will have the chance to win bespoke club partnerships with the aim to gain exposure and drive growth. Additional finalists will receive business grants from Sage and promotional opportunities at EFL matches. 'Local businesses thrive on matchdays,' Neville said. 'Small businesses know how important football clubs are and clubs know fans need hospitality and service on those days. They need the local businesses to still be there to support the fanbase. 'A football club can never forget where it has come from, that is one of my constant messages. It needs to be the beating heart of a community and sit there to help people, support people, be the release, the energy, the life, the laugh. 'There are very few things in life that make your veins pop out like when your team score a goal or make you as angry as when your team lose. 'That emotion and feeling is absolutely critical.' Neville, who represented Manchester United on 602 occasions between 1992 and 2011, has since turned his hand to various entrepreneurial enterprises alongside his award-winning punditry with Sky Sports. He co-owns League Two outfit Salford City with some of his 'Class of 92' teammates and has a lifelong insight into how crucial football clubs are to their surrounding small businesses, and vice-versa. 'Growing up in Bury, being an owner of Salford and supporting (Manchester) United, I have seen the importance of football to local towns, cities, communities and local businesses at all levels,' he said. 'Manchester United not being in Europe this year has a massive impact on the city of Manchester. Manchester United doing well and City doing well has a huge impact on the city. It's the same with Salford, the same with Bury. 'Football clubs are not just important economically, they are important for the spirit in the city, the feeling of energy. 'That can largely be defined sometimes by how the football team is doing. It has such an impact on the local community.' The 85-cap England international is working with Sage to spotlight the vital role of small businesses in the EFL ecosystem, a partnership he is delighted to be a part of. 'It's hard work setting up a small business,' he added. 'Everyone does it with great enthusiasm and passion, I've done it myself here in Manchester, but you need systems, you need processes, I call it a defence. 'The nuts and bolts is making sure your defence is looked after and you're not conceding goals. 'Small businesses need that more than ever in what is a challenging time to operate and Sage do great work helping with that.' Gary Neville is encouraging fans to celebrate the businesses behind the badge on behalf of Sage, the Official Accounting Software Partner of the EFL.
