‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan' Box Office collection day 3: Shanaya Kapoor and Vikrant Massey's romantic drama draws lukewarm response; earns Rs 41 lakh on Sunday
's big Bollywood launch in 'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan' was expected to make quite a splash. But three days into its release, the film's numbers show it has a long way to go. Despite the fresh pairing of Shanaya and
Vikrant Massey
and a unique love story, the romantic drama is finding it tough to pull crowds to cinemas.
Box office collection after three days
As per early estimates on Sunday, 13th July, by sacnilk, 'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan' managed to earn only Rs 41 lakh on its third day. This pushed its total collection to just about Rs 1.2 crore.
The film had opened with Rs 30 lakh on its first day (Friday) and saw a slight growth on Saturday, collecting Rs 49 lakh. Though the weekend usually gives films a good boost, Shanaya's debut hasn't enjoyed that big jump yet.
Occupancy on day 3
On Sunday, 13th July, the film's overall Hindi occupancy was recorded at 16.90%.
Morning shows were quite empty at 7.40%, afternoons were a bit better at 20.09%, evenings touched 23.84%, but the night shows again dipped to 16.25%. This means not many people are stepping into theatres to watch this new love story.
Facing tough competition
Another reason why 'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan' is struggling is the strong competition at the box office.
Rajkummar Rao
's 'Malik', which released on the same day, has already earned over Rs 14 crore in just three days.
Meanwhile, the Hollywood biggie 'Superman' is doing even better, collecting more than Rs 25 crore in the same time. Older releases like 'Sitaare Zameen Par' and 'Metro… In Dino' are also still pulling audiences, leaving little room for Shanaya Kapoor's first film to grow.
About 'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan'
Directed by
Santosh Singh
, 'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan' offers an unusual plot. The film is set in the peaceful hills of Mussoorie and follows Saba, a theatre artist on a solo trip.
In a surprising choice, Saba decides to stay blindfolded for more than two weeks, putting all her trust in a stranger she has never even seen. She meets Jahaan, who hides his impairment from her. For him, Saba's company brings a lovely sense of normal life, without pity or sympathy.
This bond becomes the heart of their gentle romance.
'Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan' review
'The Times of India' gave the film three stars, praising some parts while pointing out its flaws.
The review reads, 'A theatre artiste on a solo trip to Mussoorie, blindfolded for over two weeks and relying entirely on a stranger she hasn't even seen, does stretch believability. Jahaan hides his impairment from Saba, finding in her company a rare sense of normalcy, free from pity or preconceived sympathy.'
The review went on to say, 'The premise is offbeat, and if one looks past the implausibility, director Santosh Singh and writer
Mansi Bagla
's film unfolds as a feel-good romance set against the serene beauty of Mussoorie in the first half. There are several light-hearted moments and poetic lines, but not all the comedy lands, and the narrative occasionally becomes repetitive.'

‘Maa' Becomes Kajol's 8th Biggest Hit, but 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'Shall Remains Unbeaten at 7
Kajol's recent film, Maa, has become her 8th highest-grossing movie with Rs 35.64 crore after 18 days, marking a decent box-office performance. Despite a promising start, Maa experienced a significant drop in collections during its second week. It is unlikely to surpass the evergreen classic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which remains her 7th biggest hit with Rs 46. Kajol , one of Bollywood's most iconic actresses, continues to charm audiences with her diverse range of performances. Over the years, she has amassed a long list of hit films, many of which have enjoyed tremendous box-office success. Recently, her movie Maa has been making waves and has officially become her 8th highest-grossing film at the box office. Mohit Suri Spills On 20 Years In Bollywood - Ahaan & Aneet, Alia Bhatt Dream Collab & More With a total collection of Rs 35.64 crore after 18 days, Maa has proven to be a decent hit, but despite this success, it's unlikely to replace the evergreen classic Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Rs 46.88 crore) as Kajol's 7th biggest hit. Maa's Box Office Journey: The box-office journey of Maa began with a promising opening. On Day 1 (Friday), the film earnedRs 4.65 crore, setting a decent pace. The movie's numbers continued to grow steadily over the weekend, reaching Rs 6 crore on Saturday and Rs 7 crore on Sunday. This early momentum indicated that the film could enjoy a healthy run in theatres. However, like most films, Maa saw a significant decline starting on Monday, when collections fell by a dramatic 64.29% toRs 2.5 crore. This was followed by more fluctuations throughout the week. Despite these dips, the film's performance remained somewhat consistent in the first week, ending withRs 26.5 crore in its first week—a solid total for a mid-range film. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo Week 2: A Sharp Drop in Numbers: The second week of Maa was less promising, with a steep 70.57% decline in collections compared to the first week. Day 8 (Friday) brought in Rs 1 crore, a 33.33% drop from the previous day. Despite a minor recovery on Saturday, with collections rising to Rs 1.75 crore (+75%) and Rs 2.35 crore ( + 34 %)the film struggled to hold onto its audience in the week. By Day 14 (Thursday), collections had fallen to Rs 50 lakh , signaling a waning interest from moviegoers. Week 3 and Beyond: As of Day 18, Maa has grossed Rs 35.64 crore. However, the film has shown very little potential for growth in its third the four days of Week , the film has earned only Rs 1.34 crore and going by the upcoming release like Saiyaara and existing films like Sitaare Zameen Par, , Jurassic Park: Rebirth, Maa doesnt seem to have long legs left at the box office, , further solidifying that it will fall short of surpassing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Why Maa Won't Surpass Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: Despite Maa's respectable position at the 8th spot in Kajol's career earnings, replacing Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan , Rani Mukerji and Salman Khan- directed by Karan Johar as her 7th biggest hit seems unlikely. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has firmly etched itself into the Bollywood pantheon, not just for its box office numbers but for its cultural impact. With a lifetime collection of Rs 46.88 crore, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a film that continues to have a lasting appeal, especially among younger audiences who continue to discover it through digital platforms. Ramayana: Ranbir Kapoor-Yash-Sai Pallavi starrer becomes costliest film at Rs 4000 crore, Namit Malhotra says 'All the films they saw us as were victims &...'
Ever since the title glimpse of Ramayana featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, Sai Pallavi, Ravie Dubey, and Sunny Deol among others has been released, the jaw-dropping visuals have created excitement among the audience. While the world eagerly awaits the epic face-off between Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama & Yash's Ravana, the producer of Ramayana and the creative mind behind this humongous project shared that the combined budget of the two parts is Rs 4000 crore, which is about $500 million. While the Ramayana: Part 1 budget equals _Black Panther: Wakanda Forever_ and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 3, it is also higher than _Superman_ ($225 million) and Jurassic World Rebirth ($180 million). STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Namit Malhotra is the founder and non-executive director of Prime Focus Limited & DNEG, the VFX company behind masterpieces like Inception, Dune, and Interstellar and others. 'So, when we set out to make it, six, seven years ago, just after the pandemic, when we started to really get serious about mounting it and producing it, and budget-wise, it was like everybody thought I'm a lunatic. Because no Indian film, by a long distance, comes close to it. So, to put it simply, it'll be about $500 million by the time we're done, on both films put together, part one and part two, which is over Rs 4,000 crore,' said Namit while talking to Prakhar Gupta. 'So, I say it like this: we're making the largest film in the world for the greatest story, the greatest epic, that the world should see. And I still think it's cheaper than what it cost to make some of the biggest Hollywood films. So I think we're making a bigger film at a lower cost. Because that Indian in me still believes that we're not being irresponsible financially. We're not being irresponsible with money,' he added. 'I'm taking the greatest belief system of our country. We're taking something that we have pride in. It's a foundational piece of our culture. And I'm going to mount it and present it in the grandest form possible. And it's going to cost whatever it costs. Why is that a risk? When I think about Ramayana, I'm like, is it really a risk? All I'm doing is, I have to just make sure we do justice to people's expectations, and beyond. There has to be pride that must come through, in every Indian first, and then every other person in the world, to say: that's a great piece of culture. I genuinely think the relevance of Ramayana today in the world, not just India, is massive. Look at the wars in the West. Look at the way the countries are operating. I've lived in America. I've lived in the UK. I've hesitated to send my kids abroad to study,' said Malhotra, sharing that Ramayana is his way to honour India's foundational cultural ethos.
