G-III signs license agreement for G.H. Bass
Aldo Product Services, a division of the Aldo Group, has signed a license agreement for the G.H. Bass brand, owned by G-III Apparel Group, according to a Thursday press release.
Under the seven-year exclusive deal, Aldo Product Services will design, manufacture, distribute, market and sell footwear, bags and small leather goods for G.H. Bass across retail channels in North America.
The partnership, which will launch for the spring-summer 2026 season, also includes e-commerce management.
G-III, which acquired G.H. Bass from PVH Corp. in 2013, also owns a portfolio of fashion brands that includes DKNY, Karl Lagerfeld and Vilebrequin. In addition, the company licenses more than 20 brands, including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica and Converse.
'Aldo's expertise in footwear, along with their extensive supplier network and proven omnichannel capabilities, will strengthen the presence of G.H. Bass by offering an expanded range of products both online and in-store,' Jeffrey Goldfarb, G-III's executive vice president, said in the release.
Aldo Product Services plans to leverage its existing DTC digital networks, wholesale relationships and supply chain relationships to bring the G.H. Bass brand to a wider audience, per the release.
'This partnership is about more than strategy — it's about vision,' Jonathan Frankel, president of Aldo Product Services, said in the release. 'In the face of evolving market conditions, this is not the time to slow down. There has never been a more compelling moment to unlock the full potential of an iconic American heritage brand.'
Frankel added that the G.H. Bass brand has a nearly 150-year legacy that his company wants to build on.
'Combined with our deep design expertise, we're fueling the next chapter of growth with a focus on effortless style and everyday luxury — delivering elevated essentials that blend heritage, quality, and modern design,' Frankel said.
Other licensed brands Aldo Product Services works with include Authentic Brand Group-owned labels such as Sperry, Roxy, Brooks Brothers, Ted Baker and Hunter.

San Leandro's Gate510 campus has quickly become a hub for companies shaping the future of multiple industries. Air Protein, Coreshell and Lyten are among the innovators leveraging the infrastructure and support for makers in San Leandro. Read on to discover how they're redefining what's possible. AIR PROTEIN NASA-inspired research drives sustainable food production A food production facility that once made such American breakfast innovations as Eggo Waffles and Pop-Tarts is aiming to change the way we eat once again, this time with a sustainable twist. Air Protein opened its first Air Protein Farm on San Leandro's Gate510 campus in 2023, where it does just what its name suggests: make high-quality protein out of particles in the air. Co-founders Lisa Dyson and John Reed were inspired by research from the early days of NASA, which explored ways astronauts could produce food on long space journeys. They built on that work, creating a method for growing protein in cultures, similar to the production of yogurt, cheese, and wine. The result is a neutral-tasting protein flour that can be turned into or used in any food. 'We and our investors believe we've cracked the code on making functional ingredients that have a great cost profile,' Dyson said. 'Many companies are also looking for ingredients that are resource-efficient, and that's what we do. We help CPG [Consumer Packaged Goods] companies make great products for consumers.' In choosing San Leandro, Air Protein put the company's headquarters in a location with a history of food manufacturing. Dyson said the Air Protein project team and the landlord worked closely with the City throughout the process to obtain the necessary permits for building out the facility. 'With this particular site and location, there is fermentation happening with other companies around us,' Dyson said. These include 21st Amendment Brewery and Drake's Brewing. 'That made this more appealing than some other options.' The San Leandro Air Protein Farm produces samples of its protein in large enough quantities for food product companies to use in their product development. Next up will be a larger commercial facility to support full-scale use of Air Protein in food for grocery shelves. 'That's the most exciting thing about 2025,' Dyson said. 'We're turning the science innovation that NASA started in the 1960s and 1970s, completing the mission and making it a reality.' LYTEN San Leandro lands new battery cell production facility Every once in a while, an opportunity comes along that is just too good to pass up. That's what happened to Lyten, a San Jose-based company specializing in supermaterial applications, which focuses on commercializing lithium-sulfur batteries as a high-performance, low-cost alternative to lithium-ion technology. The company was in the process of planning a gigafactory in Nevada and thinking about its next major production facility outside California when the perfect location popped up in San Leandro, said Chief Battery Technology Officer Celina Mikolajczak. A lithium-metal battery maker had closed, leaving behind a manufacturing space and equipment that was immediately of interest. Lyten snapped up the equipment and 119,000-square-foot lease at Gate510 that November. Mikolajczak expects to have a 100-megawatt-hour production line in San Leandro up and running in 2026. 'We were planning and tooling for a big factory, and then the opportunity to take over the lease in San Leandro occurred,' she said. 'We said, 'Wow, that's a big enough space. There's enough dry room capability there. There's enough power. We could get one high-volume production line running there and learn a hell of a lot and get a jump on being ready for a bigger factory.' Lyten's San Leandro site will deliver lithium-sulfur battery cells for multiple types of energy storage customers, including defense and drone applications. In doing so, the company will help U.S. manufacturers keep more of their supply chain close to home. 'With lithium-sulfur, we can develop the technology and commercialize it in the U.S. and be part of creating the next wave of manufacturing in this country,' Mikolajczak said. CORESHELL New battery anodes boost domestic supply chain Batteries have quickly become a crucial component in efforts to transition from fossil fuels to sustainable forms of energy. But the batteries most widely used in electric vehicles and other key applications today come with limitations. San Leandro-based Coreshell is one of the innovators working to change this. The company has developed a battery anode that uses 100% domestically sourced metallurgical silicon instead of graphite, allowing it to store significantly more energy without relying on a risky supply chain. 'We're replacing something that is produced only in China with silicon that is produced widely here in the United States and in Europe,' said Co-founder and CEO Jonathan Tan. 'It can be even more cost-effective.' Founded in 2017, Coreshell relocated its development work to the Gate510 campus in 2020 and opted to remain in the city when it was time to expand into the first stages of production in 2024. It moved across the street to another building on the Gate510 campus, where a team of approximately 50 people has a four megawatt-hour pilot production facility that produces its first battery cells ready for commercialization in electric vehicles. 'We're proposing a foundational change in battery chemistry by replacing graphite — one of the largest single materials in a battery — with silicon,' Tan said. 'It is imperative that we show the market how that will help people power their daily lives.' San Leandro was ideal because it offered a combination of the necessary infrastructure — including access to the heavy power Coreshell needs for manufacturing — and efficient permitting and other City support, Tan said. A San Leandro headquarters also gives Coreshell access to a strong talent pipeline from throughout the Bay Area's growing battery expertise. San Leandro Mayor Juan Gonzalez, and members of the City staff visited with Coreshell this spring. It was an opportunity for Tan and his team to share more about their work and talk about how the City can support the company's future growth. 'To have a receptive audience with the Mayor, the City Manager's office and others in San Leandro, it shows that they are invested in helping companies like Coreshell grow and be successful,' Tan said. 'We value that partnership and how they are actively working to find ways to support the success and growth of companies like ours.'

Beer and food workers on strike at Fenway Park for homestand between Dodgers and Red Sox
Associated Press BOSTON (AP) — Striking Fenway Park vendors banged on drums and shouted 'Don't buy food!' while walking a picket line outside the home of the Boston Red Sox before Friday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Hundreds of Aramark workers marched along the street behind the team's right field concourse before the series opener, carrying round picket signs decorated with red baseball stitching. A giant inflatable rat shared the sidewalk with a statue of Red Sox greats Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr, Dom DiMaggio and Johnny Pesky. Local 26 of the Massachusetts and Rhode Island hotel, casino, airport and food services workers union went on strike at noon on Friday. It posted that it is asking for 'living wages, guardrails on technology and R-E-S-P-E-C-T!' It's believed to be the first union walkout in the ballpark's 113-year-history. 'Respect the picket line," the union posted. 'We know tix are expensive, we're not asking you to stay away from the home games. But we ARE asking you to not buy concessions. No purchase of pretzels, pickles or peanuts inside the ballpark during the homestand.' An Aramark spokesman said the company has bargained in good faith and is 'disappointed the union rejected our latest offer and chose to call a strike.' 'We are committed to delivering an outstanding fan experience and have contingency plans in place to ensure fans will not encounter service interruptions,' the company said. The Red Sox noted that the team was not involved in the negotiations but remained in contact with the concessionaire. Aramark made an offer as recently as Thursday night that was rejected by the union, the team said. 'Aramark has implemented its contingency staffing plans, and fans can expect a full and uninterrupted ballpark experience this weekend, including access to all food, beverage, and hospitality services throughout Fenway Park,' the team said. "We remain hopeful that the parties will reach a swift and fair resolution.' U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders called on the team to support the vendors. 'Fenway Park is an iconic American institution, and it's the workers there that make every Red Sox game special,' he posted on social media. 'The team is extremely profitable. They should treat their employees with respect, pay them decent wages and negotiate a fair contract with the union.' Maggie McCue, a beer vendor with 19 years of experience who is 24 weeks pregnant with twins, took a break from marching in the near-90 degree temperatures to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Her mother, also a beer vendor for almost two decades, said the team can afford for the workers to be paid a living wage. 'They have more money than they need,' Marianne McCue said. 'We are Fenway. Fenway is us. Some people have been here 40-something years and they're not even backing us up. Shame on them. I never thought that at 70 years old I would be on strike, but here we are." The Red Sox play three games against the Dodgers before leaving town again for a series beginning Monday night in Minneapolis against the Twins. It was a chance for Boston fans to welcome back ex-Red Sox star Mookie Betts, who was traded to Los Angeles a year after winning the AL MVP in a cost-cutting. When will critics admit Trump's trade strategy is working?
Nearly four months after President Trump's 'Liberation Day' announcement of higher reciprocal tariff rates on major U.S. trading partners, the dust has settled and the strategy is working. Over the last few weeks, countries have, one by one, been offering to significantly lower tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers on US goods entering their markets, while pledging significant purchases from and productive investments in the United States. So far, these nations have included the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines, with more deals anticipated in the coming days. In each case, these countries have accepted a higher base tariff rate from the United States while lowering their rates to zero or near-zero. These higher US rates will help rebalance the enormous deficits the United States runs with nearly all its major trade partners. For decades, US leaders turned a blind eye to rampant abuses by our trade partners and ever-widening trade deficits that have hollowed out American industry, destroyed millions of jobs and undermined our long-term economic stability. President Trump has done more than anyone thought possible to address these imbalances without major disruption, price increases or job losses. The leverage offered by tariffs has been key in achieving these agreements. Relying on the old system, governed by a slow, outdated and prejudicial World Trade Organization, to address trade abuses and imbalances was completely ineffective. The agreements establishing that organization hadn't been updated since 1994, and litigation often dragged out for several years — and by then, the damage was done. Unilateral action was essential to resolve US trade imbalances, protect our producers and workers, and make American businesses competitive in world markets again. The new trade paradigm introduced by the Trump administration is already changing market incentives worldwide. In a recent speech, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer noted that American and foreign companies have pledged over $5.5 trillion in investments to expand production in the United States. These investments will create untold numbers of jobs as companies build new production facilities and fill them with American workers. Check out more newsletters Furthermore, the deals struck by the Trump administration offer a path forward for addressing the main perpetrator of world trade imbalances: China. While the United States put higher tariff rates on China in 2018, China has been able to avoid those tariffs by redirecting supply chains through third countries. This made it imperative to widen the scope of American tariffs, to ensure goods from non-market economies like China do not make it into our market at favorable rates through friendlier trade partners like the Philippines and Mexico. Language in the initial trade deal frameworks indicates our trade partners will now work with us to deter China's trade abuses. Lastly, Trump's tariffs will ensure that the United States maintains and strengthens its industrial base. Tariffs aimed at key strategic sectors like steel and aluminum, automobiles, rare earths, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and drones will ensure our competitors that heavily subsidize such sectors will not undermine US industries, especially those essential to the future of our economic and national security. When Trump announced new reciprocal tariff rates on our trading partners in April, economists, commentators and free traders of all stripes were quick to predict the worst. But even with the prospect of tariffs increasing further in the coming weeks, market and consumer sentiment remains optimistic, with even former naysayers hedging on their earlier dire predictions. What is clear now is that the United States has a path to stabilize its trade balance, strengthen economic opportunities for the middle class, and bolster our economic security — without catastrophic consequences.
