GEORGE TOWN, July 27 (Bernama) -- At 84, many would choose to slow down, but Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib defies this norm, proving that age is truly just a number.
Instead of retreating into a life of leisure, he remains an active, energetic, and forward-thinking figure, continuing to serve the people with the same zeal that has defined his career.
In an exclusive interview with Bernama, Tun Ramli shared the secrets behind his vitality, even after stepping away from politics more than two decades ago. His formula? A blend of passion, discipline, and a love for adventure that has kept him physically fit and mentally sharp.
After retiring from politics in 2008, Tun Ramli's life didn't slow down. He embraced his newfound freedom as an opportunity to explore new horizons.
"I didn't fall into a lull after leaving politics. Instead, I turned to writing, and now I've authored four books,' he shared with Bernama's editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Penang Bureau chief R. Ratcharathan at Seri Mutiara here recently.
Writing, however, was just the beginning. His lifelong passions—mountain climbing and cycling—soon became his next adventures.
Over the years, he has conquered several peaks including Gunung Tahan in Pahang, Lenawee Mountain in Colorado, and mountains in Oman, Bhutan, and Indonesia.
Tun Ramli's legacy extends beyond politics. His written works include Pasir Salak: Sehamparan Sejarah Perjuangan, Meniti Zaman, Bangsa Melayu: Penjejak Benua, and Tuan Yang di-Pertua: Daripada Seorang Budak Kampung Sehingga Menjadi Peneraju Parlimen.

Commenting on the development allocation for Kota MADANI, Mustazar said the initiative reflects a public-private partnership model. "The government will not spend directly but instead grant concessions to qualified private firms. Hence, not everything announced by the government will involve direct fiscal commitments. "The government will leverage private sector expertise-firms that are more experienced, willing to take risks, and capable of assessing the viability of projects,' he added. 13MP, tabled by the Prime Minister in the Dewan Rakyat, outlines the country's development agenda for 2026-2030, with a total allocation of RM611 billion. - Bernama

‘Fake and fraudulent': Viral RM26m gratuity letter ‘never issued', says works minister
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has denied the issuance of a letter dated July 28, 2025, which has gone viral on social media, that was supposedly from the ministry regarding a gratuity payment to an individual. Nanta said that the letter was fake and was never sent out by the ministry or by him as the minister. 'The ministry never issued any official invitation for such a gratuity payment ceremony. As such, I advise the public not to be deceived by such documents, which clearly contain elements of fraud and impersonation,' he said. He said the ministry had taken note of the matter and is working together with the authorities to conduct further investigation. Those who have any doubts about the authenticity of documents or communications allegedly from the ministry are advised to contact the ministry's official channels via its website at or the ministry's official hotline. Massive civilian flotilla set to sail for Gaza late August to break Israeli siege Bernama TUNIS, Tunisia/ISTANBUL: A massive civilian flotilla is set to depart for the Gaza Strip at the end of August in a new bid to break Israel's blockade that has left the territory's entire population on the verge of famine. Speaking at a press conference in Tunis hosted by the Joint Action Coordination for Palestine, a civil society coordination platform, members of the Global Sumud Flotilla said activists from 44 countries have signed up for the coordinated effort. "This summer, dozens of boats, both large and small, will set sail from ports across the world, converging on Gaza in the largest civilian flotilla of its kind in history," Anadolu Ajansi reported organiser Haifa Mansouri said. The flotilla brings together four initiatives: the Maghreb Sumud Flotilla, the Global Movement to Gaza, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, and Sumud Nusantara. Their united aim, Mansouri said, is to "break the illegal blockade on Gaza by sea, establish a humanitarian corridor, and confront the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people." The first convoy will leave Spanish ports on Aug 31, followed by a second from Tunisian ports on Sept 4. Seif Abu Keshk, another organiser, said more than 6,000 activists have already registered online to join. "Participants will undergo training at departure points, with solidarity events and encampments planned along the way," he added. "This is a renewed attempt to pressure governments by sending dozens of ships and thousands of activists to break Gaza's blockade," Abu Keshk noted.
