Orlando City SC acquire Colombian M Eduard Atuesta
February 10 - Orlando City SC acquired midfielder Eduard Atuesta from Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras of Brazil's Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A on Monday for the 2025 season with a club option for 2026.
After coming up through Independiente Medellin's academy system, where he was part of the Colombian championship squad in 2015-16, the 27-year-old Colombia native played five seasons with LAFC (2018-21, 2024) and had 11 goals and 21 assists in 124 games (109 starts).
"I'm very excited to be here, to join this great team and live in this beautiful city," Atuesta said of Orlando. "I can't wait to step out into the stadium filled with our fans, to win games and to fight for the titles that this city deserves."
Atuesta helped LAFC win the 2019 Supporters' Shield and 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
"We're very excited about bringing Eduard here to Orlando, as a player that is in the prime of his career, has proven himself previously here in Major League Soccer and knows our league," EVP of soccer operations and general manager Luiz Muzzi said.
"He's a great midfield talent that has the ability to organize the team throughout the game, but most importantly, he's a title-winner at each of his previous clubs. We have confidence in him and his ability to help us achieve the goals we have here at this club."
Atuesta was a member of Palmeiras' 2022 and 2023 championship teams, along with the 2023 Supercopa do Brasil and the 2022 Recopa Sudamericana.
He has appeared in 259 matches, scoring 15 goals and providing 32 helpers, with over 16,000 minutes played.
Orlando City will open the 2025 MLS regular season at home against the Philadelphia Union on Feb. 22.

He was not considered a big name in 2021 when he was still at home with Independiente Santa Fe. But Fluminense played against him, liked what they saw and picked him up for a bargain fee. He combines well, turns and surges at the opposing defence and - and he showed against Ulsan of South Korea, he strikes a mean free-kick. Arias was by far the best Fluminense player in the side that went down 4-0 to Manchester City in the Intercontinental final at the end of 2023. He demonstrated that he could hold his own in such company, and it is surprising that major European clubs did not make a move. Another Colombian international midfielder who has made his name in Brazil is Richard Rios of Palmeiras. His is a fascinating story. Olivier Giroud 'set to return to Europe at 38' - as LAFC confirm the former Chelsea and Arsenal striker's exit
Olivier Giroud has departed LAFC and reached an agreement to return to Europe, according to reports. The Frenchman has made 37 appearances and scored five goals for the MLS outfit since joining from AC Milan last summer. But after just over a year in Los Angeles, Giroud's final match with the club will be on Sunday, June 29, when the Black and Gold host Vancouver Whitecaps. At 38 years old, Giroud still seems keen to play at the highest level and has agreed a one-year contract proposal from Lille, as per Fabrizio Romano. It is understood that the former Arsenal and Chelsea striker has booked his medical with the Ligue 1 side, and will return to his home nation as the sun sets on his career. With LAFC, he added another piece of silverware to his cabinet, winning the U.S Open Cup in 2024. Giroud will return to France, where he began his career playing in Grenoble's youth academy before finally signing his first professional contract at the age of 21. He then endured a loan spell at Istres before permanently moving to Tours, where he enjoyed a standout stint. With 21 goals in the 2009–10 season, Giroud became Ligue 2 top scorer. His rise continued at Montpellier, helping the club win its first-ever Ligue 1 title in 2011–12 by scoring a league-best 21 goals. This earned him a move to Arsenal in 2012, where he scored 105 goals in 253 appearances, winning three FA Cups along the way. In January 2018, Giroud joined Chelsea, where he contributed 39 goals in 119 games, enjoying success in the FA Cup, Europa League, and, of course, the Champions League, which Chelsea won in 2021. Giroud then moved to AC Milan in 2021, helping them clinch their first Serie A title in 11 years by scoring 11 league goals in his debut season. Across three seasons in Italy, he netted 49 times in 132 matches.

The 38-year-old Frenchman, formerly of Arsenal and Chelsea, joined LAFC from AC Milan on a free transfer in May 2024 but never quite found his feat in California, registering just five goals in 37 appearances. He did, however, help the side to the 2024 US Open Cup, scoring one of three goals as they downed Sporting Kansas City in the final.
