The 6-year-old boy was visiting a nature reserve with his mother and younger brother in Utrecht, which is 32 miles south of Amsterdam, when the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 30, according to U.K. newspaper The Times and local media outlet RTV Utrecht.
The attack happened at the Den Treek estate. In a statement shared on their official website, the estate said the boy was bitten and dragged into the woods by the animal.
'On Wednesday morning, July 30th, a child was bitten by a wolf (presumably Bram) and dragged into the woods,' the statement read. 'The child was with several adults and other children in the woods near the Pyramid of Austerlitz. While playing, the child was unexpectedly attacked by the wolf and dragged away.'
The statement added, 'Due to the prompt action of the adults present, who hit the wolf with a stick, the wolf released the child into the woods and ran away. The child was taken away by ambulance. The victim's condition is not yet known.'
According to The Times and RTV Utrecht. the boy received stitches for bite wounds on his back and near his armpit. He also had scratches and abrasions.
Images shared with RTV Utrecht showed large scratches on the boy's back. He has since left the hospital and is back at home, according to the outlet.
'I thought it was a playful dog running towards us and thought, Nice, I'll go and play,' " the boy's mother, Nynke, 41, told The Times. 'But before I got there, I heard my eldest son screaming very loudly. He was jumped by the animal and dragged into the woods.'
Speaking of how her son was rescued, she added, 'There were two men with big sticks who beat the animal and eventually they got it off my son. I was in a state of total panic and grief.'
Two other women who were nearby then called emergency services, according to RTV Utrecht.
'I'm very happy that I wasn't alone with my two children,' Nynke told The Times.
"It's not like we were going for a walk deep in the woods where no one normally goes," the boy's father Mike, who was not present at the time of the attack, told RTV Utrecht.
"We knew about previous incidents at the Den Treek Estate, but I didn't know that the Pyramid of Austerlitz was also part of it," he added.

They added that a hiker was bitten by a Bram wolf in the area on May 19, while the species was alsop responsible for other biting incidents in 2024.
Mayor Magda Jansen of the municipality of Woudenberg, which is near Utrecht, also said in a statement, "Please heed this advice. Do not enter the forest with children. As an adult, you must also be very alert when entering the forest. Stay on the paths and, above all, do not enter the forest alone," per RTV Utrecht.

North Texas hosts Crimes Against Children Conference as digital threats rise; experts warn about AI risks, education strategies

As North Texas students get ready to head back to school, the Crimes Against Children Conference is underway right here in Dallas. Hosted by the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, it's the largest event of its kind. Thousands of law enforcement officers, social workers, and child advocates from across the world are learning how to stay ahead of the threats and support victims in crisis. President and CEO Irish Burch says when it comes to crimes against children, most cases involve someone the child knows. Additionally, as the digital world expands, so does the number of potential threats. "I would tell you the greatest danger that our children are facing is technology, the advancement of technology," she said. One major topic is artificial intelligence. "Anything about AI makes it easier to groom children," she said. "The perpetrator, it's not just their job to groom a child, it's their job to groom a community." Through their podcast "Catfish Cops," two North Texas officers with extensive experience in internet crimes against children are working to educate the public. "From a technology standpoint, it has advanced 10x, maybe 100x, from where it was," host Tony Godwin said. "It has slid into the arena that we work, child sex abuse material, and it's a very big problem." "It's common for us to see offenders taking real children, pictures of real children who are not involved in any sort of abusive situation, and then using AI to create child sex abuse material," Host Brandon Poor said. "So that is common, but not nearly as common as people may think it is yet." What's coming next, they say, could be even harder to stop. "We haven't even seen the problem it's going to become, I think," Poor said. "How to verify an AI-generated image versus a real image. That's the complexity I think we are going to face in law enforcement, even more in the next few years... is this a real child or is this an AI-generated child, and if so, how can we charge those if it's not." That's why they believe education is just as critical as enforcement. They offer a variety of resources for parents through their website. "If we can take the prey away from the predators, that's how we stop this," Poor said. "This is not the time to be your child's best friend in the sense of saying I don't want to ask my child about their phone and their apps and the things that they're using," Burch said. "You need to really come from a place of curiosity." She say the best thing you can do is ask questions and stay involved.

1-year-old girl found dead in Bronx daycare pool. Here's the latest on the investigation.

A 1-year-old was found dead in a pool at a Bronx daycare center late last week, police said Monday. The little girl, identified only as "River," was an only child. Police say on Friday afternoon they were called to the daycare on Story Avenue, just around the corner from River's home, on a call for an unresponsive child. Police sources say River was found by the caretaker in the pool out back. The caretaker allegedly told police she was cooking and noticed she hadn't seen the child in some time. Sources say she told the investigators she looked, but the child was not in the building. River was pronounced dead at the hospital. The medical examiner will determine the cause. A man who identified himself as an inspector with the Office of Children and Family Services, was seen entering the family's home on Monday. One neighbor described the scene at the daycare. "The mother came and she was devastated, like you could just hear her wallowing in screams," Edward Shoman said. Other stunned neighbors lit candles and placed items outside the daycare. Ezinne Ijomah, the child's aunt, said River would have turned 2 in November. "River was ... sorry ... River was joyful. She was a happy baby," Ijomah said. "She was at one point taking swimming lessons, so she was, I guess, familiar. She loved the water." She was asked for her understanding of what happened. "Negligence. That's all I can say," Ijomah said. The New York City Department of Health health is currently investigating this situation. CBS News New York also reached out to the daycare and caretaker at the business, but did not immediately hear back from either.
