ESPN power ranks mascots. Where is Ohio State mascot Brutus?
There aren't too many college mascots more beloved than Ohio State mascot, Brutus. He's an iconic one and has been around a long, long time, even becoming beloved by longtime ESPN College GameDay host, Lee Corso. In fact, Corso has put the Brutus head on more than any other college mascot. Brutus has evolved over the years to the current appearance of wearing a uniform with a Buckeye Nut head that's much, much smaller than it was when first introduced in 1965. Either way, there aren't too many mascots that are as recognizable as Brutus is across college athletics. He's not a fearsome mascot, but a fun, wildly popular, high energy one that interacts with fans. But where would Brutus fit if power ranking mascots? That is, of course, a subjective question, but one that ESPN's Ryan McGee set out to answer. He published a piece last week power ranking mascots across different divisions, and Brutus was featured in the "Costume Divison." McGee only identified the top five and had Brutus at the No. 2 spot, right behind the Oregon Duck at No. 1. "As hard as it is to believe, before 1965 there was no mascot in Columbus," McGee said. "After flirting with the idea of bringing a live buck onto the sidelines of the Horseshoe, a student vote settled on Buckeyes, honoring the official state tree of Ohio, and the name Brutus. "Over the years, Brutus generally has been considered the template for the "person in clothes but with a huge plastic head" model for modern mascot business. Thankfully, Brutus has experienced some extreme cranial makeovers -- and shrinkage -- through the ages. The O.G. O-H-I-O Buckeye looked more like a chocolate bonbon bowling ball than a fearsome football foe." So, what other costumed mascots made the top five? Behind Brutus and the Duck were Big Red of Western Kentucky (3), the Stanford Tree (4), and Keggy the Keg of Dartmouth at No. 4 (I have to admit I didn't know that was a thing, but brownie points for being creative). Now, being an Ohio State website, of course, many aren't going to like Brutus finishing behind the Oregon Duck, but the Duck does get cool points for coming out on a motorcycle and trolling other schools in a lighthearted way. Let's call it 1A and 1B, shall we? You can get a look at the other divisions and rankings of the mascot power rankings by visiting and taking a look at a fun list to look at during the offseason. 'Stunning' Ohio State Cheerleader Grabs Attention With Offseason Photo
'Stunning' Ohio State Cheerleader Grabs Attention With Offseason Photo originally appeared on The Spun. A "stunning" Ohio State Buckeyes cheerleader grabbed attention with her offseason photo this week. The Ohio State Buckeyes football team is gearing up for the 2025 season. Ohio State had a magical ride in 2024, of course. The Buckeyes went 10-2 in the regular season, losing to Oregon and Michigan, the latter of which sparked "fire Ryan Day!" calls. But Ohio State rebounded in a major way in the College Football Playoff. Ohio State, the No. 8 seed, topped Tennessee at home, Oregon in the Rose Bowl, Texas in the Cotton Bowl and then Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff national championship game. The Buckeyes lost a lot of elite talent to the NFL this offseason, including quarterback Will Howard, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and a host of defensive standouts. But Ohio State is still expected to contend for both a Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff spot in 2025. Meanwhile, a stunning Ohio State Buckeyes cheerleader is trending ahead of Week 1. A second-year Ohio State Buckeyes cheerleader is trending for her offseason photo shared to Instagram. Gabby, a second-year cheerleader for the Ohio State Buckeyes, is ready for the 2025 season. "Repping scarlet white and blue this year ❤️🌰," she wrote earlier in July. Ohio State opens the 2025 regular season in big-time fashion. The Buckeyes and the Texas Longhorns are scheduled to open the year on Saturday, Aug. 30. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for noon E.T. It'll air live on FOX. 'Stunning' Ohio State Cheerleader Grabs Attention With Offseason Photo first appeared on The Spun on Jul 20, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 20, 2025, where it first appeared.

‘I managed to get tickets for the big show in Manchester this weekend'
This is the moment we've all dreamed of. If you were in Manchester this weekend you surely felt the anticipation. Bars and restaurants are packed, the Metrolink was rammed, everyone is wearing the merch, young and old all scrambling to get their hands on a ticket. And that's because a very special group have reunited to put on a legendary set of shows that will be talked about for generations. Finally, they've placed their differences aside and are putting on a united front to showcase what they do best and give the people who have adored them for years what they want. There's been no media in the build up. No public 'falling out' to generate hype. This is a show where the group's raw talent simply speaks for itself. I am, of course, talking about Paw Patrol Live: The Great Pirate Adventure, at Manchester's AO Arena. There is a local Burnage act also performing this weekend - but staff around Victoria Station manage to juggle their fans en route to Bury alongside a minor army of parents and kids queueing for the AO Arena brilliantly. It's all very well organised and the atmosphere is quite celebratory and joyous from both parties. The show brings together the key cast of the beloved programme, led by Ryder, to go on a heroic mission to find hidden pirate treasure. And within moments of them marching onto the stage, there is cheering, screaming, furious mopping by staff over spilt drinks from an accident that happened the second the lights went down, and smatterings of tears too from slightly overwhelmed kids. It's a lot. As someone said to us before the show: "this is Oasis for kids". Once the mayhem all settles down though it's a really fun show: panto-on-speed, some very catchy songs and lots of very happy children in the crowd. The biggest cheers are reserved for when the pups come out on their vehicles - we love a vehicle - and the live production manages to have a flavour of the high-octane action scenes that characterise the Nickelodeon TV show which are obviously not easy to reproduce on stage. Many parents upon reaching the interval decide they're going to need a beer to get through this - even if it is almost £10 for a pint - but our three-year-old is utterly mesmerised throughout, so entranced that even his beloved Fruit Shoot doesn't interest him. At times some of the audience-participation segments don't really quite work for an arena the size of the AO, however the cast are really giving it 110%. It's a sugar-rush of an afternoon, lasting just over an hour-and-a-half plus a 20-minute break in the middle, and a great treat for kids over the summer. PAW Patrol Live! is on a roll – and coming to cities all across the UK this summer. Tickets are available now from
