Microsoft's Recall AI tool – which captures and indexes screenshots of user activity every three seconds – is being reintroduced after facing significant privacy concerns after the initial announcement in 2024. Now available to Windows 11 Insiders, the feature requires users to opt-in and authenticate via Windows Hello, aiming to address earlier criticisms. However, privacy advocates remain apprehensive, noting that even with these measures, sensitive information from non-users can still be inadvertently captured and stored on others' devices. Of course there's data and privacy issues. Think about it: if you opt-in, then all of the activity on your device is being captured by Microsoft and then stored who-knows-where in the cloud. But on the upside it will make recovering from a problem – a malware attack, a natural disaster - much faster, which could reduce losses. Like everything in tech, there's a tradeoff. Do you give up your privacy and your confidential information for increased productivity? There's no right or wrong answer. Everything is judged by risk vs. reward. In case you're wondering, I'll opt-in.
ChatGPT's new feature – Library – provides users with a dedicated tab to store and manage their AI-generated images. This update is available across both the mobile app and web interface, for free and paid users alike. The Library collects all images created in past chats, allowing users to edit, download, or create new images directly from this section. While it currently lacks advanced search or filtering options, these may be added in the future. (Source: TechRadar)
According to TechRadar there are rumors of OpenAI's plans for a social network – possibly inspired by Instagram – where AI-generated images and videos play a central role. This latest move aligns with the growing trend of AI-generated content becoming more social and shareable. If this actually happens it could open up another channel for engagement and sales with new customers for small businesses.
Solutions platform Apply Digital shared research on how retailers are utilizing AI. Results showed that nine out of ten retailers are embracing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance personalization in their operations. Retailers are utilizing AI in various ways – analyzing customer data to provide personalized product recommendations, optimizing inventory management, and streamlining supply chain operations. AI-driven tools are enabling businesses to forecast demand more accurately and automate customer service interactions, thereby improving efficiency and customer satisfaction. My prediction is that AI will be the savior of brick and mortar. Sure, it's quicker to get some things online. But many people enjoy the experience of shopping. Having an advanced AI assistant on your smartphone that can shop along with you can be that friend you always wish you had: smart and non-judgmental! Small retailers should be keeping a close eye on what their bigger competitors are doing and tracking new applications like this that can keep them competitive.

This platform integrates workforce management, HR, payroll, and inventory management into a unified system. An investor sparked a lively debate on Reddit's r/stocks after asking a simple but heavy question: How can the S&P 500 continue to grow at an average annual rate of 10% for another 30 years? The user pointed out that if the index maintains that pace, its market cap would double roughly every seven years, ballooning from $52 trillion today to around $900 trillion by 2055. That number sounded 'really stupid and impossible' to the original poster, who noted that with declining birth rates and slowing population growth, the math just didn't add up. "Where is all this money going to come from?" they asked. "Even if we assume inflation wipes out half of that $900 trillion in growth of the S&P 500 in today's money, that's still a ridiculous increase that makes no sense." Several investors pointed out that this kind of growth has happened before and could happen again because of inflation, global expansion and major leaps in productivity. 'S&P500 companies don't only sell in America," one added. "All the big U.S. companies are just getting started with their globalization," pointing to China and India and their growing middle class. Another commenter chimed in: "Half the world's population lives on $7 a day, so I would say there is room for plenty of growth even if population growth slows down." Trending: The secret weapon in billionaire investor portfolios that you almost certainly don't own yet. Other Redditors were more skeptical. For example, one said that population growth, a major tailwind in the past, is slowing down significantly. "Returns will not be what they have been on a market-wide level," they argued. "Large companies finding increased markets via globalization will not be enough." Another user took issue with the assumption that historical trends will keep repeating. "You are assuming that the tailwinds of interest rates, taxes, suppression of labor wages will continue to trend the same way," they wrote. "Any of those trends continuing to the point we have multiple companies... having wealth bigger than many countries combined, could result in the kind of social unrest preventing that growth." Still, others offered a middle-ground take: yes, inflation will play a big role, and yes, some technological innovations might drive value, but don't expect a repeat of the past 30 years. "Past performance does not indicate future results," one person pointed to advancements in AI, renewable energy, automation and healthcare as areas that could push corporate profits higher, even with slower consumer growth. "Humans are a dynamic, innovative species," one commenter said. "We may well find the world unrecognizable in 30 years." Others focused on the U.S. dollar itself. "If you divide the S&P 500 over the money supply, you get almost a constant," they argued. "It has never been true growth... just almost keeping purchasing power." So, is the idea of a $900 trillion S&P 500 absurd? Depends on who you ask. But most Redditors agreed on one thing: inflation will do a lot of the heavy lifting, and whether it's real growth or just more dollars chasing assets, the index might keep climbing. A sugar billionaire's son agreed to buy a $15 million Jackson Pollock painting — but has yet to fork over a dime for it, court records show. David Mimran, whose father Jean Claude is worth an estimated $2 billion thanks to business ventures in West Africa and Switzerland, agreed to purchase the untitled, 1948 abstract impressionist artwork if it didn't find a buyer at a November auction, Phillips Auctioneers said in a lawsuit. When the oil painting didn't sell, Mimran, 56, was obligated to purchase it — but blew off two payment deadlines, including one in March and another in June. Mimran agreed to shell out nearly $15 million for the Jackson Pollock painting — then blew off two deadlines to pay up, the auction house claimed. Getty Images 'David Mimran, the son of a billionaire businessman, uses his perceived wealth to convince business partners to transact with him. But then he fails to keep his promises,' Phillips said in legal papers against the London resident. Lawyers for Mimran acknowledged he wouldn't be paying by the June 30 deadline. 'He is unable to complete the purchase of the painting on Monday,' Mimran's attorneys wrote in a June 25 email to Phillips Auctioneers which was included in court papers. 'Nor is he able to make a substantial down payment. The untitled work by the famed painter was put up for auction in November. Phillips 'David has requested an additional 60 days to pay because he says that substantial assets of his in Western Africa are finally in the process of becoming accessible,' they added. It's not the first time Mimran, whose father sold a luxury Swiss resort he co-owned for $250 million earlier this year, has left behind a hefty debt. Jean-Claude Mimran's company, The Mimran Group, operated several agricultural businesses in West Africa before selling at least some of the entities in 2018, according to a report. The former Manhattan resident and filmmaker, David Mimran left the Big Apple in 2013 having failed to pay a more than $7 million divorce settlement to his first wife. He is now married to model Julie Ordon. 'It's astonishing that Mimran believes he can bid like a billionaire and then hide behind the claim that he's broke. If Mimran didn't have a dollar to his name to pay for the artwork, as he claims, then he shouldn't have raised a paddle,' said Phillips Auctioneer attorney Luke Nikas of the firm Quinn Emanuel. Lawyers for Mimran did not respond to a message seeking comment.
