Srinagar airport to resume operations from Tuesday; Haj flights from Wednesday
Haj flights from Jammu and Kashmir will resume from Wednesday.
'Flights at Srinagar airport will operate from tomorrow. We have conveyed this to the airlines already,' said Srinagar airport director Javed Anjum.
The flight operations were suspended on June 7 after India targeted terror infrastructure at nine sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The targets were hit as part of Operation Sindoor on May 7 in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam.
The decision to reopen airports and routes was taken after the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed that there were 'no activities' in the border areas in the night intervening Sunday and Monday.
The announcement came hours after the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on Monday issued Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) for reopening 32 airports across northern and western India for civil flight operations A separate notice was issued for re-opening the international flight routes.
Anjum said the airport was ready to operate from today but the airlines needed time. 'The airlines have to line up their aircraft and passengers. That is why they are starting tomorrow,' he said.
The closure of the civil aircraft operations had also disrupted the schedule of flights for Hajj pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir.
The first batch of 178 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir had left for Saudi Arabia on May 04 for the annual Hajj pilgrimage of 2025. After that no flights could operate and the authorities had to cancel seven flights of the Hajj pilgrims which were supposed to leave between May 7 and 12.
Shujaat Ahmad Qureshi, executive officer of the J&K Haj Committee, said the Haj flights from Srinagar will restart on May 14 and those will be operated which are scheduled.
'There will be three flights on May 14 and 15 as per schedule while a new schedule will be announced for the seven flights which were cancelled,' he said.
This year, 3,622 pilgrims from Jammu and Kashmir, and 242 pilgrims from Ladakh are performing the Haj pilgrimage.
Srinagar International Airport was scheduled to operate 11 Hajj flights between May 4 to 15.

IHCL Q1 profit up 19% despite geopolitical impact, eyes Africa growth
Tata Group's hospitality arm and Taj Hotels' parent company, Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), reported a 19 per cent increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 296 crore for the April–June quarter (Q1) of 2025–26 (FY26), despite headwinds from geopolitical tensions. The company had reported a net profit of Rs 248 crore in the same period last year. The country's largest hospitality company recorded a 32 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) increase in revenue from operations, rising to Rs 2,041.8 crore from Rs 1,550 crore. Revenue per available room (RevPAR) at domestic hotels grew 11 per cent Y-o-Y, while international properties saw a 13 per cent increase. However, IHCL experienced a 3 per cent impact on its topline due to geopolitical tensions in northern India, following the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April and Operation Sindoor. The ongoing conflict in Western Asia further exacerbated the situation. During the quarter, the company announced 12 signings, including three luxury wildlife lodges at Kruger National Park in Africa, and six openings. Its total portfolio now stands at 392 hotels, comprising 249 operational properties and 143 in the pipeline. 'We want to maintain the pace of signing one contract every week and opening between 30 and 36 hotels annually—effectively four signings and three openings each month. We are also exploring more safari opportunities in Africa, as that segment performs well in that geography,' Chhatwal added. IHCL expects to reach the 400-hotel milestone by July. Under its Accelerate 2030 vision, the company aims to scale its portfolio to 700 hotels. 'This performance was enabled by diversification of our top line across same-store hotels—not just like-for-like growth—and new businesses, with consolidated revenue growing 27 per cent over the previous year,' Chhatwal stated in the company's earnings release. The air and institutional catering business segment, TajSATS, recorded revenue of Rs 290 crore in the quarter, marking a 21 per cent Y-o-Y increase. Management fee income grew 17 per cent to Rs 133 crore, driven by non-like-for-like growth. In FY26, IHCL plans to invest over Rs 1,200 crore in its comprehensive asset management and upgrade programme, as well as in greenfield projects. The focus will remain on expanding the iconic Taj brand and enhancing digital capabilities.

Ixigo Sees 73% Surge in its Q1 Revenue, Net Profit at ₹19cr
Le Travenues Technology , the parent company of online travel aggregator Ixigo, saw its operating revenue increase by 73 per cent year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 314 crore for the quarter ended June on account of growth across all lines of business, effective cross-selling and up-selling to its user base, and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven efficiency. The company posted a net profit of Rs 19 crore for the quarter, marking a 27 per cent rise from Rs 15 crore in the same period last year. According to group CFO Saurabh Devendra Singh, this factors in certain one-off items, including a Rs 2 crore share of loss from associate company Fresh Bus, whereas Q1FY25 had included revaluation gains and other adjustments. "If I were to compare on a like-for-like basis by excluding all these items in both periods, our profit before tax would have increased by 76.2 per cent from Rs 16.2 crore to Rs 28.7 crore," said Singh. The company's total expenses, however, rose to Rs 293 crore in the June quarter from Rs 168 crore in the same period last year. A significant amount of the expenditure was attributed to employee benefits and other expenses. "Q1 FY26 had a few events that impacted the aviation market in India and the region," said Aloke Bajpai, cofounder and chief executive, during a post-earnings analysts call on Wednesday. This includes Operation Sindoor and the resulting airspace closures in North India, the recent AI171 crash, airspace shutdowns in Pakistan, disruptions in the Middle East during the Iran-Israel tensions, and Air India's voluntary reduction of international wide-body flights for safety checks.

UAE Hajj 2026 accreditation process explained: What you need to know before registering
Pilgrims preparing for Hajj 2026 under the UAE's new accreditation system/ Image : pixabay TL;DR The UAE has updated its Hajj campaign approval system to improve service and accountability. Only accredited operators will be allowed to organize Hajj under the Saudi quota. India will also offer a Short Hajj Package for 10,000 pilgrims, aimed at working professionals. Performing Hajj is a once-in-a-lifetime journey. But if you're planning to go from the UAE in 2026, the process has changed and it's important to get it right. The UAE has introduced a new approval system for Hajj campaign operators. This means not all travel agencies will qualify. Only those who meet strict criteria will be allowed to organize Hajj trips. The update comes after years of complaints about poor service and unclear planning. Authorities want to make sure pilgrims get a safer, more organized experience. So, before you register, take a moment to understand what's new and how it affects you. What's new in the UAE's Hajj approval system? 1. Stricter standards for campaign approval Operators must now prove they can offer: Consistent service quality Strong financial management Reliable administration A solid performance record during the 2025 season If they can't meet these, they won't be approved. Tip: Don't sign up with a campaign unless it's officially listed by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat. 2. Accountability now built into the process Campaigns will be tracked digitally and reviewed after Hajj. This helps authorities see who delivered and who didn't. Expect digital check-ins, performance ratings, and follow-up surveys. 3. Packages must meet real needs Campaigns that offer tailored packages for seniors, families, or budget travelers are prioritized. Many organizers say flexible packages help meet the needs of different groups. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More 4. Matching Saudi Arabia's quota system Every country is given a fixed Hajj quota by Saudi Arabia. The UAE's process now mirrors this. Only campaigns that pass the local screening will get access to that quota. Reminder: If you're not on the list via an approved campaign, you may not be allowed to go. 5. Timelines and official procedures are tighter Miss a step or a deadline, and your campaign may lose its approval. The goal is to avoid the chaos some pilgrims faced in earlier years. Keep an eye on official announcements, they'll lay out the full process and dates. Why these changes matter Hajj is one of the most important journeys in a Muslim's life. But in recent years, some UAE pilgrims faced delays, unclear communication, or lack of proper care. The government wants to fix that by making sure only reliable campaigns get approved. The new system isn't just about paperwork, it's meant to make the Hajj experience smoother and safer for everyone. India introduces Short Hajj Package for working pilgrims If you're applying through India's Haj Committee, there's a new option: a 20-day Short Hajj Package designed for people who can't take extended time off. The Minority Affairs Ministry confirmed it in early July 2025, and the Haj Committee of India included it in their official Haj 2026 Policy. Here's how it works: Open to 10,000 pilgrims out of India's total quota of 175,025 Stay limited to 20 days in Saudi Arabia Selection will happen through Qurrah, the random digital draw system Seats will be allocated based on availability under this special scheme This could be a good option for working professionals or those with time constraints. What You Can Do Now Start looking at operators who performed well in 2025 Follow official UAE Hajj updates on social platforms Collect the documents you'll likely need for registration Ask friends or family who went last year for recommendations FAQs 1. Can I register for Hajj 2026 through any travel agency in the UAE? No. Only agencies approved under the new UAE system are allowed to organize Hajj trips. Make sure the campaign you choose is officially accredited. 2. What does 'tailored packages' mean in the new system? It refers to options designed for different types of pilgrims, like affordable plans for budget travelers, or easier schedules for seniors. 3. How do I know if a Hajj campaign is approved? The General Authority of Islamic Affairs usually publishes a list of accredited campaigns before registration opens. Check their official channels.
