Govt committed to increase women-owned companies
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the government through the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) would strive to increase the percentage through various new programmes and policies.
'In helping women access overseas markets more effectively, the government is committed to providing trade facilities such as MADANI Digital Trade, Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) and also trade missions to various countries,' he said during the opening ceremony of the Women in Export (WiEX) Forum 2025 today.
Tengku Zafrul said the initiative implemented was open to women entrepreneurs who wanted to explore international markets, including emerging markets such as West Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe, which have high demand for Malaysian products.
'MATRADE also constantly monitors the participation of female entrepreneurs in international exhibitions and overseas trade missions so that women can become competitive exporters on the international stage,' he said.
Meanwhile, MATRADE chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the participation of Asian women in the economy, comprising only 30 to 35 per cent, shows that there are still untapped economic opportunities.
'Therefore, to assist women-owned companies in the export market, MATRADE has allocated 40 per cent of the RM14.89 million in export grants to 6,711 women-owned companies,' he said at the event.
Regarding the organisation of WiEX, he said the forum was important as a meeting place to empower women in the export ecosystem and, by 2026, the forum would be known as the Women International Exporters Expo.
'The WiEX Forum has become the perfect platform to celebrate and recognise women entrepreneurs who want to make a name for themselves in the international arena.
All the knowledge, inspiration and strategies shared today are valuable gifts that can guide their respective journeys,' he said.
Therefore, Reezal Merican said MATRADE has launched an e-directory that serves as a bridge connecting products and services provided by women-owned companies.
'This platform will showcase to the world the great products and services produced by Malaysian women. It will facilitate business collaboration, build international networks and, most importantly, provide direct access to global markets.
'This initiative is in line with the National Women's Policy 2025-2030 and sustainable development goals, demonstrating the government's unwavering commitment to empowering women in the trade sector,' he added.
Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, chairman of the Umno Malaysia Women's and Family Affairs Council (HAWA) Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil and MATRADE chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul Aziz.

Indonesian oil tycoon sought in graft probe reportedly in Malaysia
PETALING JAYA: Indonesian authorities believe oil tycoon Riza Chalid, a suspect in a major fuel import corruption case, is currently in Malaysia, as efforts intensify to track down his whereabouts. Accoring to a Tempo magazine's report, Indonesia's immigration directorate general, under the Law and Human Rights Ministry, said it is working closely with its Malaysian counterparts to confirm Riza's location. Acting immigration director-general Yuldi Yusman confirmed that Riza had left Indonesia and had yet to return. "His whereabouts are suspected to be in Malaysia at the moment," he was quoted as saying. According to immigration records, Riza has been in Malaysia since Feb 6, following his departure from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Riza was recently named as a suspect in a corruption investigation involving fuel imports by subsidiaries of Pertamina, Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company. The scandal has reportedly caused losses amounting to trillions of rupiah. Authorities said there was sufficient evidence to implicate the businessman, with the probe so far leading to the arrest of seven individuals, among them Riza's son, Kerry Adrianto. Earlier, Abdul Qohar, Director of Investigation at the Indonesian Attorney-General's Office, had suggested that Riza might be in Singapore. However, Yuldi confirmed on Monday that Riza is no longer believed to be there. Riza remains on Indonesia's wanted list as authorities pursue cross-border cooperation to bring him to justice.

Tiger prawn processor Camaroe gets nod from Bursa Malaysia to list
KUALA LUMPUR: Aquaculture group Camaroe Bhd has got the green light from Bursa Malaysia Securities to list on the ACE Market of the stock exchange. The group, which specialises in the farming and processing of black tiger prawns, said it its initial public offering (IPO) will involve the issuance of 99 million new shares, as well as an offer for sale of 49.5 million existing shares to selected investors. "With our strong foundation in prawn farming and our expanding processing capabilities, this IPO will allow us to increase production capacity, enhance operational efficiency through new machinery and technology, and strengthen our product quality through the establishment of a biotechnology department," said Camaroe managing director Teoh Han Boon in a statement. Accordingly, the IPO will allocate 24.75 million shares of 5% of the enlarged issued share capital to the Malaysian public. Half of these shares will be made available to public investors while the other half will be issued to Bumiputera public investors. A further 12.38 million shares of 2.5% of the enlarged issued share capital will go to eligible directors, key senior management and employees through pink form allocations. Meanwhile, 61.87 million shares or 12.5% of the enlarged issued share capital will be reserved for private placement to Bumiputera investors approved by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry Proceeds from the IPO will support the construction of a New Bukit Raja Processing Facility, the purchase of machinery and equipment, and the installation of solar panels to enhance sustainability. Additionally, Camaroe plans to establish a biotechnology department to strengthen its research capabilities and improve farming efficiencies. "Camaroe's well-established aquaculture infrastructure, coupled with its vertically integrated model and growing presence in export markets, places it in a favourable position to benefit from rising global demand for premium seafood. "The group's proven capabilities in producing quality black tiger prawns, as attested by its ability to meet locally and internationally recognised quality standards which make it a compelling listing candidate on the ACE Market,' said M&A Securities Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Bill Tan. M&A Securities is the principal adviser, sponsor, underwriter, and placement agent for the IPO.

Boeing opens KL office to support Malaysia's aerospace aspirations
KUALA LUMPUR: Boeing's new office in the heart of Kuala Lumpur will serve as a pivotal hub to strengthen the aerospace company's customer support, aviation safety, sustainability and supply chain in Malaysia, according to its president, Penny Burtt. In a statement today, she said the company is honoured to support the nation's vision of becoming a key aerospace node in the region as outlined in the country's Aerospace Blueprint 2030, noting that Malaysia is home to one of the largest aviation markets in Asia-Pacific "The opening of Boeing's new expanded corporate office in Kuala Lumpur reflects our deep commitment to the Malaysian government, our employees, customers and partners in the country," she said. The opening ceremony of the aviation giant's corporate office in Menara Hap Seng 3 here today was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Liew Chin Tong, United States Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D. Kagan and National Aerospace Industry Coordinating Office (NAICO) chief executive officer Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah. In his opening remarks, Liew said the new office is a testament to Boeing's commitment to Malaysia as a part of the nation's aerospace journey. The New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) lists aerospace as a priority sector to drive innovation, deepen economic complexity, and achieve net-zero ambitions. The initiatives for the aerospace industry under NIMP 2030 are spearheaded by the National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia, the key implementing agency. Liew noted that Boeing's presence in Malaysia goes beyond aircraft sales, as the company has also set up its sole wholly owned manufacturing facility in Southeast Asia in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah.
