It is currently unclear if
LeBron James
will remain with the Los Angeles Lakers after the 2025-2026 campaign. Despite not negotiating a longer-term contract with the organization, the four-time NBA MVP chose to exercise his $52.6 million player option for the upcoming season.
Now, recently, the team's general manager, Rob Pelinka, opened up about the NBA icon and his future with the team. Additionally, NBA pro Luka Doncic also did the same a few days ago.
Rob Pelinka and Luka Doncic hope
LeBron James
retires with the Los Angeles Lakers amid an uncertain future
LeBron James' contract with the Los Angeles Lakers is about to expire. In December, he turns 41. Furthermore, there is more ambiguity in his future than there has been in a long time.
According to
Rob Pelinka
, the general manager of the Los Angeles Lakers, it "would be great" if James retired with the team.
He opened up about the same at the press announcement on Saturday, which was conducted to announce Luka Doncic's three-year, $165 million contract extension.
When asked if he thought that the giant would play for the L.A. Lakers until the end of his career, Rob Pelinka responded:
"All the interactions we've had with LeBron and his camp, Rich Paul in particular, have been very positive and supportive… Very professional and Rich has been great.

The
Los Angeles Lakers
' general manager then said:
"In terms of LeBron's career, I think the No. 1 thing we have to do there is respect he and his family's decision in terms of how long he's going to play. I think that's first and foremost. We want to respect his ability to come up with his timetable and that's really important. If he had the chance to retire as a Laker, that would be great."

However, he didn't say anything specific to the reporters.
Meanwhile, he wasn't the only person from the team to think that.
NBA
player Luka Doncic also shared the same sentiment.
The Slovenian superstar has recently made his position known. This happened amidst growing issues about LeBron James' schedule and the team's choice to focus on Luka Doncic.
Luka Doncic
, the NBA's all-time best scorer, also wants LeBron James to end his career wearing purple and gold. However, he hasn't given any justification for his remarks as of yet.

IND vs ENG: 'Even the clouds cried on the pitch' - R Ashwin slams England for disrespecting 'cricketing gods'

LONDON, ENGLAND - AUGUST 04: Mohammed Siraj of India celebrates the match winning wicket of Gus Atkinson of England with teammates on day five of the 5th Rothesay Test Match at The Kia Oval on August 04, 2025 in London, England. (Photo by) R Ashwin didn't mince his words while talking about the recently-concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and criticised England cricketers for disrespecting the "cricketing gods. " Ashwin slammed England captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum for encouraging what he called reckless cricket. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! 'As a captain, as a coach, you can proclaim to the world that this is your brand of cricket,' Ashwin said on his Hindi YouTube show Ash Ki Baat. 'They can say that Brook played the way we wanted him to play, that he embraced our beliefs. 'All of this is easier said than done, but Test cricket needs a certain amount of balance. Yes, I agree that this approach got you runs in the first innings, but in the fourth innings, when you're batting on 100 and the finish line is in sight, it becomes your responsibility to see your team through.' IND vs ENG: Mohammed Siraj reflects on memorable win at The Oval Ashwin pointed out Harry Brook's reckless shot after scoring a fantastic century, which gave India an opening at The Oval. 'When he (Brook) walked in at 100/3, England were not in the game at all. He took chances against Akash Deep when England were staring down the barrel, and a big defeat was looming. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like When Knee Pain Hits, Start Eating These Foods, and Feel Your Pain Go Away (It's Genius) Click Here Undo But when he got out, it was a moment he could have cherished. 'He could have walked out of The Oval with his bat held high alongside Joe Root, who was breaking record after record, and could have won the series 3-1 for England. But he played a reckless shot, and that punishment is why England lost the match and ended up drawing the series. Poll Was Harry Brook's shot a turning point in the match? Absolutely, it cost the game No, the team had other chances Maybe, but other factors played a role 'Brook definitely missed that opportunity. Everything fell on Root's shoulders. And, fortunately for India, the conditions changed. Such things happen when the cricketing gods are disrespected. 'The way England disrespected the cricketing gods — even the clouds came together, cried on the pitch, and allowed the ball to move a lot,' Ashwin said. 'Languishes in premature retirement': Shashi Tharoor reignites call for Virat Kohli's Test comeback

Virat Kohli (AP Photo) NEW DELHI: Congress MP and renowned public figure Shashi Tharoor has once again sparked debate around Virat Kohli's retirement from Test cricket, calling it 'premature' and urging the Indian stalwart to return to the longest format. Tharoor's latest remarks came after India's spirited 2-2 series draw in England, under new skipper Shubman Gill , who led a young side admirably in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Despite India fighting back from a 1-2 deficit with a draw in Manchester and a nail-biting win at The Oval, Tharoor couldn't help but reflect on what might have been with Kohli in the lineup. Poll Do you think Virat Kohli should come out of retirement for Test cricket? Yes, he should return. No, it's time for new players. 'I was just admiring Joe @root66's consistent excellence as England's hardy perennial at age 35, while @imVkohli, just two years older, languishes in premature retirement,' Tharoor posted on social media, in reply to a debate on Kohli's potential return. Earlier during the fifth Test, Tharoor had already voiced his emotions, posting: 'I've been missing @imVkohli a few times during this series, but never as much as in this Test match. His grit and intensity, his inspirational presence in the field, not to mention his abundant batting skills, might have led to a different outcome. Is it too late to call him out of retirement? Virat, the nation needs you!' Kohli, 36, announced his Test retirement in May 2025, ending a stellar 14-year red-ball career with 123 Tests, 9,230 runs, 30 hundreds, and a top score of 254*. He remains India's most successful Test captain in England, with three wins, and was central to several near-misses — including the closely contested 2018 series and the COVID-delayed 2021-22 finale. IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill on Oval thriller, Siraj's spell, and missing Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah As Team India embraces a new era, Tharoor's impassioned appeal may reignite calls from fans and pundits alike for King Kohli's red-ball encore. India's Mohammed Siraj and India's Dhruv Jurel celebrate their win against England on day five of the fifth cricket test match between England and India at The Kia Oval in London, Monday, Aug. 4, 2025. (AP Photo/Kirsty Wigglesworth) Yuvraj Singh 's father, Yograj Singh , has compared Mohammed Siraj to legendary India captain Kapil Dev and said the series draw felt like winning a war against England. "The way Mohammed Siraj bowled, he reminded me of Kapil Dev. I remember Kapil was injured and picked up five wickets. Siraj was clocking 146. Bande ne taange jama di goron ki (He froze the England cricketers feet)," Yograj told ANI. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The 67-year-old also lauded Shubman Gill 's captaincy and slammed those who were questioning his elevation to the role. Poll How do you rate Mohammed Siraj's performance in the recent series against England? Outstanding Good Average Below Average "At the start of the Test series, questions were raised about Shubman Gill's captaincy. But he has silenced all the critics," he said. "No cricketing great questioned the selection, barring one, who said Gill is a new captain. But my question is — have you learnt everything from your mother's womb? That is wrong. You need to support your players. "The captaincy of Shubman Gill was so mature. It did not seem at all that he was captaining for the first time. The credit goes to Shubman Gill's father and Yuvraj Singh," he said. Yograj said the most impressive thing about this series was the way Indian cricketers fought.
