Mohit Suri shares story of Ahaan Panday's shelved debut film before Saiyaara

India Today5 days ago
Ahaan Panday is currently enjoying the success of 'Saiyaara', but director Mohit Suri recently shared that the actor's debut journey wasn't as smooth as it seems. Amid the growing hype around Ahaan's breakout performance in the romantic drama, the filmmaker shared that the young star was originally set to debut in a different, larger-than-life film. The movie was ultimately shelved due to the changing dynamics of the post-pandemic film industry.advertisementIn a conversation with Komal Nahta, Suri said, 'Ahaan had actually been workshopping with YRF for seven years. He was supposed to do a larger-than-life film before the pandemic. But the project was cancelled, because, as you know, the industry changed."The setback hit Ahaan hard, with Suri adding, 'Overnight, his pride and 'guroor' were killed. The same kid who was going around telling everyone that he would be launched by YRF was heartbroken. People started saying to him, 'You were bragging about being launched by YRF, what now?''
Despite the disappointment, Ahaan's belief in the banner remained firm. Mohit shared, 'I know that Adi sir called him after the pandemic, and told him that his faith in his talent hadn't lowered even one bit, but that he could start looking for opportunities outside the studio if he wanted to. 'You don't need to hang on here, you can look for work elsewhere', he was told. But the kid was adamant that he could only be launched by YRF, and it worked."'Saiyaara', released on July 18, 2025, has become a runaway success at the box office. The romantic drama, featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has already become a box office hit.The film follows the story of Krish Kapoor, a struggling musician, and Vaani Batra, a poet with a soulful heart, as they go through love, heartbreak, and healing. Ahaan and Aneet's chemistry has been widely loved by the audience, especially the youth.- EndsTrending Reel

Dhadak 2 Box Office Collection Day 4: Triptii Dimri's film nears ₹15 crore mark amid clash with Saiyaara

Dhadak 2 Box Office Collection Day 4: The season of love has taken over Bollywood, bringing with it a clash of romance-dramas at the box office. As YRF's Saiyaara created a storm at the ticket window, Dharma released Dhadak 2. Starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, the film is a follow-up to the 2018 Dhadak, featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Dhadak 2 minted ₹ 1.40 crore from its morning, afternoon and evening shows across India on day 4. While this is not the final figure of the day, the film is now heading towards the ₹ 15 crore mark. Dhadak 2 was released on August 1. The film is clashing with Saiyaara alongside Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar 2, which also released on Friday. Hombale Films' mythological animated film Mahavatar Narsimha is also performing well at the box office. Dhadak 2 had an overall 12.75% occupancy on Monday. The occupancy was as follows: The film is doing well in Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. All these regions also marked the highest number of shows for the film. In terms of occupancy, Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Kolkata are leading. Even tier 2 and 3 cities such as Lucknow, Jaipur and Bhopal also saw an increased footfall for the film. Dhadak 2 premiered on Friday and received glorious reviews from critics. Despite the positive reviews, the film had a lukewarm opening of ₹ 3.5 crore. It improved over the next two days, Saturday and Sunday. The film wrapped up its first weekend on 3 August. It minted ₹ 11.4 crore net in India. On day 3, its India Net Collection was ₹ 11.40 crore while Worldwide Collection was ₹ 16 crore. The Overseas Collection was ₹ 2.25 crore on the same day. On the other hand, India Gross Collection was ₹ 13.75 crore day 3. Talking about the film's box office performance, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted on X, formerly Twitter, '#Dhadak2 falls short of expectations... Despite favourable word of mouth, the film has struggled to convert appreciation into footfalls over its opening weekend. Its box office performance was significantly impacted by the #MahavatarNarsimha wave, along with the strong hold of #Saiyaara. #Dhadak2 [Week 1] Fri 3.65 cr, Sat 4.05 cr, Sat 4.27 cr. Total: ₹ 11.97 cr.'

In another post on X, Adarsh noted, '#Saiyaara continues its strong run on Tuesday, hitting double digits yet again… The discounted ticket pricing initiative has certainly helped drive footfalls.' Son of Sardaar 2 box office collection day 4: Ajay Devgn's film witnesses drop amid tough competition from Saiyaara

Son of Sardaar 2 box office collection day 4: Ajay Devgn's comedy-drama released in theatres on August 1 and clashed with Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri's Dhadak 2. While the film has managed to stay ahead of Dhadak 2, it is still struggling at the box office and has now seen a decline in collections on its first Monday. Son of Sardaar 2 box office collection day 4: Ajay Devgn headlines the comedy with Mrunal Thakur and Ravi Kishan for company. Son of Sardaar 2 witnesses a dip on first Monday According to Sacnilk, Ajay's film closed its opening weekend with ₹24.75 crore (earning ₹7.25 crore on Day 1, ₹8.25 crore on Day 2, and ₹9.25 crore on Day 3). However, the film failed to maintain momentum at the box office on its first Monday, earning just ₹1.88 crore. The total collection of the movie now stands at ₹26.63 crore. While the film continues to race ahead of Dhadak 2, it has clearly faced tough competition from Saiyaara. Ajay's film earned slightly more than what Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda's Saiyaara collected on Monday, which marked its 18th day at the box office. Saiyaara earned ₹1.82 crore, according to the trade tracking site, taking its total box office collection to ₹301.29 crore. Mrunal Thakur, the film's female lead, was seen encouraging viewers to watch the movie in theatres and decide its fate for themselves. When a fan tweeted about the film's mixed reviews on social media, saying, 'The way the reviews are on Instagram and YouTube, I don't even feel like watching it anymore,' Mrunal responded, 'Most of the reviews are misleading… I would appreciate if you decide how YOU LIKE IT SIR!' About Son of Sardaar 2 The sequel to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar follows the story of Ajay's character, Jassi, who is called to London by his wife (played by Neeru Bajwa), only to be blindsided by her demand for a divorce. Stranded and heartbroken, he crosses paths with Rabia (Mrunal Thakur), a spirited member of an all-girl wedding dhol band. Rabia's younger sister, Saba (Roshni Walia), is in love with the son of the stern and traditional Raja (Ravi Kishan), who insists on meeting her parents before giving his approval. The problem? Saba's parents are no more. To keep the romance alive, Jassi agrees to pose as her father, an ex-army colonel, while Rabia plays the mother. What follows is a hilarious and chaotic ride of twists, emotional beats, and drama. The film received mixed reviews from critics. However, Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, and Deepak Dobriyal's performances and comic timing were widely appreciated by both critics and audiences.
