Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi, the acclaimed Italian designers known for their iconic contributions to the world of Barbie, tragically lost their lives in a car accident on Sunday, July 27, in Italy. The fatal collision occurred on the A4 Turin–Milan motorway and was reported by Italian news outlet TG24.
According to initial reports, the couple were travelling with their close friend, Amodio Giurn, and his wife, Silvia Moramacro, when their vehicle collided head-on with another car being driven in the wrong direction. The other driver, identified as 82-year-old Egidio Ceriani, was reportedly travelling at a speed of 129 kilometres per hour. The crash claimed the lives of Paglino, Grossi, Giurn, and Ceriani. Moramacro was the sole survivor and has been hospitalised in critical condition.
Paglino and Grossi were reportedly en route to a lake for a day trip when the tragic incident occurred. The crash took place between Novara Est and Marcallo Mesero, in the north-western region of Italy.
More than just professional collaborators, Paglino and Grossi were also romantic partners. In 2006, they made history as the first non-American artists to design a commemorative Barbie doll. Their creative work was often inspired by the likes of Vincent van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, and Piet Mondrian, blending high art with the cherished world of collectible dolls.
The post went on to honour the 'spirit and love" of the 'passionate and talented designers and lifelong collectors", noting that they 'turned every creation they touched into a masterpiece" and 'shared an energy that lit up every space they entered."
According to the official Magia2000 website, a doll created by the duo sold for $15,000 at a charity auction in 2015. In 2011, they also founded the Italian Doll Convention, now recognised as the largest fashion doll event in Europe.

A Quiet Place Part III Gets 2027 Release Date, John Krasinski To Direct Once Again

Last Updated: John Krasinski returns as director for A Quiet Place Part III, set to release on July 9, 2027. Plot and cast details remain under wraps. The much-anticipated A Quiet Place Part III is officially happening, and John Krasinski is back at the helm. As per Variety, Krasinski will serve as the director, writer, and producer for the third main installment in Paramount's hit horror-thriller franchise. He confirmed the news on August 1 via Instagram, along with updates on the Michael Sarnoski-directed spinoff, A Quiet Place: Day One. The next chapter in the Quiet Place saga is slated to hit theatres on July 9, 2027. However, plot details are tightly under wraps, and it remains unknown whether franchise regulars Emily Blunt, Noah Jupe, and Millicent Simmonds will reprise their roles. The new installment will once again revolve around the terrifying alien creatures with hypersensitive hearing that have decimated human populations. According to Variety, the film is expected to continue exploring the idea of humans using whispers and silence to survive in a hostile, post-apocalyptic world. The film will be produced under Krasinski's banner Sunday Night Productions, along with Allyson Seeger and Platinum Dunes. Notably, Seeger's company has a first-look deal with Paramount, solidifying their creative stake in the franchise's future. The A Quiet Place franchise has been a commercial powerhouse, grossing over $900 million worldwide across three films. The original, released in 2018, was a critical and box-office success, raking in $50.2 million on its opening weekend and going on to earn $341 million globally. Its sequel, A Quiet Place Part II, faced delays due to the pandemic but still managed to pull in $297.3 million worldwide. The 2024 spinoff A Quiet Place: Day One, directed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Lupita Nyong'o, Joseph Quinn, and Djimon Hounsou, was also a hit, collecting $262 million globally. Set in a crumbling New York City ravaged by the alien invasion, the spinoff expanded the franchise's universe and mythology. With Part III now officially dated and John Krasinski once again leading the charge, fans of the suspense-filled series can begin the countdown to what promises to be another edge-of-the-seat thriller. Japanese woman attacked in a subway in China, raising concern about xenophobia

Tokyo, Aug 1 (AP) A Japanese woman living in China was attacked by a man with a stone-like object in the eastern city of Suzhou and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to Japanese media outlets. The assault late Thursday in Suzhou followed attacks earlier in the day in Tokyo against two Chinese men who were seriously injured. The violence has raised concern about xenophobic sentiment in both China and Japan that have been blamed for attacks in both countries. It was the third attack involving Japanese living in China since last year. In the two previous cases in China, Chinese authorities have insisted they were isolated incidents. The Japanese broadcaster NHK did not identify the woman injured in Suzhou by name but, citing the Japanese Consulate General in Shanghai, said she was with her child inside a subway station when the attack took place. The child was not injured, and the mother had returned home after reportedly getting treated at a hospital, NHK reported. A phone call to the Suzhou Police went unanswered on Friday evening, and the local police were yet to release any official statement. But the Japanese news agency Kyodo said the suspect had been detained. In Tokyo earlier Thursday, two Chinese men were seriously injured in attacks, and four male assailants wielding unspecified weapons remained at large, according to a statement released by the Chinese Embassy in Japan. The identities of the assailants were unclear. In southern China last September, a 10-year-old Japanese student died after being stabbed by a Chinese man not far from the gate of the Shenzhen Japanese School in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. The man was sentenced to death. In June 2024, a Japanese woman and her child were injured in an attack by a Chinese man, also in Suzhou. A Chinese bus attendant who tried to protect them from the attack was killed. The man was sentenced to death. On Friday, the Japan Chamber of Commerce in China called for Chinese authorities to ensure Japanese citizens' safety and security in China. 'It is extremely regrettable that such an incident has happened again. Ensuring the safety of employees and their families is fundamental for doing business in China," the statement said. The Chinese Embassy urged the Japanese authorities to take action to catch the assailants in the Tokyo attack and to ensure the safety and legal rights of Chinese citizens in Japan 'in response to the recent surge in xenophobic sentiment in Japanese society." Sarah Jessica Parker Bids Goodbye To Carrie Bradshaw: 'Been Frustrated And Rooted For Her'

Last Updated: Sarah Jessica Parker says an emotional goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw as And Just Like That wraps up with Season 3, calling it a 'joyous adventure.' Sarah Jessica Parker is officially bidding farewell to Carrie Bradshaw — the iconic character she embodied for nearly three decades. With HBO Max's And Just Like That concluding after its third season, Parker took to Instagram to reflect on her 27-year journey as the Sex and the City heroine and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the ride. 'Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all," Parker wrote in a deeply emotional post. 'I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and a lifetime of debt. To you all." View this post on Instagram A post shared by SJP (@sarahjessicaparker) Parker's co-star Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte York, also penned a touching note following the announcement. 'I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever," Davis wrote. The news of the show ending was confirmed just as Season 3 started airing. Showrunner Michael Patrick King explained that they had initially chosen to delay the announcement to preserve the audience's excitement. 'We didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years," he said. From chronicling the ups and downs of single life in Manhattan to evolving into a tale of middle-age and reinvention, Carrie Bradshaw has remained an enduring cultural icon. With And Just Like That offering a bittersweet close to the story, Parker's tribute reminds fans just how deeply intertwined her real-life journey has been with the fictional one.
