PTPTN comes forward to settle late Manarina's PTPTN loan
PTPTN in a statement informed that the late Manarina's loan which she had obtained to pursue her Bachelor's degree, was settled through PTPTN's Education Loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme.
'PTPTN with full sympathy through the Program Ziarah PTPTN Prihatin had visited the next of kin of the victim who died in this tragedy which occurred in front of the bus stop near Jalan Persiaran Perdana, UUM.
'The visit session and handing over of corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions was held at the residence of the deceased's next-of-kin in Felda Chemplak, Labis, Johor and officiated by PTPTN Senior General Manager, Corporate Communications and Marketing Department Zawiah Wan Abu Bakar who represented the PTPTN Chairman and Management,' the statement said.
Also present was PTPTN Johor State Office Branch Manager Rafidah Sidek.
PTPTN in the same statement said that the next of kin will also receive a death khairat amounting to RM1,500 as well as a CSR contribution in the form of RM2,000 cash and a food basket.
'The tragedy on April 19 has left a deep impression on all members of the family of the deceased. PTPTN as an agency under the Ministry of Higher Education continues to be committed to implement CSR programs and safeguard the welfare of its borrowers.
'PTPTN expresses its sympathy to the family of the deceased. Hopefully, the benefits received through PTPTN's Education Loan Group Takaful Protection Scheme can provide some relief and support to the next of kin of the deceased during this difficult time,' the statement said.
Group takaful coverage is intended to protect the amount of loans that PTPTN has issued to borrowers and provides coverage 24 hours a day throughout the world in the event of death or permanent disability.
For any borrower who has died or suffered a disability, their next of kin, heirs/claimants must make a claim by completing the Takaful Claim Application Form which can be obtained through the official portal www.ptptn.gov.my.
The Takaful Claim Application Form along with the required supporting documents must be submitted to the nearest PTPTN State/Branch Office or mailed to PTPTN Headquarters, PTPTN Tower, Kuala Lumpur.

'They were locked up, forced to eat chilli, sexually abused, and stripped naked. These acts were recorded for blackmail,' he said during a press conference. Victims were reportedly forced to work 12-hour shifts with only one day off every two weeks. They were confined to their workplace, with their identity cards and mobile phones confiscated. The syndicate's modus operandi involved using women to lure victims into obscene video calls on social media. Once victims clicked on a provided link, their phones were hacked, granting the syndicate access to contacts and photos. Victims were then blackmailed with threats of releasing compromising videos unless they paid. Authorities seized 27 mobile phones, personal documents, plane tickets, currency receipts, cash, a laptop, 49 SIM cards, employment records, and vehicles during the operation. JOHOR BAHRU, July 14 (Bernama) -- Police rescued a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl believed to have been sexually abused and forced to work as members of an online sex fraud and extortion syndicate through an operation dubbed Op Bugil carried out here and in Kulai from June 20 to July 1. Johor Police Chief Datuk M. Kumar said another victim, a 26-year-old man, was also rescued. He said nine suspects, two of whom were women, were arrested. According to Kumar, investigations found that the syndicate had been operating since November last year, recruiting locals, including minors, as scammers with salaries ranging from RM2,200 to RM4,000 per month. He said the syndicate also offers them to work abroad, including in Laos, with a more lucrative salary of around USD2,500. 'The victims were recruited for an online sex fraud with the syndicate creating fake social media accounts for extortion purposes. They were locked up, forced to eat chilli and sexually abused, including being stripped naked, and all these actions were recorded for the purpose of extortion,' he told a press conference here today. Kumar said the victims were forced to work 12 hours a day with only one day off after two weeks, and had to sleep at work and were prohibited from leaving except on designated holidays, while their identity cards and mobile phones were taken from them. Meanwhile, Kumar said the syndicate carried out their fraudulent activities by using women to lure the victim to make obscene video calls on social media and then hacked the victim's mobile phone after clicking on the link provided. 'This syndicate would send a link to the victim's mobile phone, and when the victim clicked on it, the syndicate could access the contact list and photo gallery on the mobile phone. The syndicate then threatened to distribute pornographic video recordings of the victim if the victim refused to pay them,' he said.

No 'VIP treatment' in Malaysian prisons, says Prisons Dept chief
KAJANG: The Prisons Department has denied claims of "VIP treatment" for high-profile inmates, saying all prisoners are treated equally under the law. Its director-general, Datuk Abdul Aziz Abdul Razak, said there are no air-conditioned cells, luxury meals or "hotel-like" conditions in any Malaysian prison. He said some high-profile inmates may be held in separate cells, but this is done solely for security reasons, not as a form of privilege. "These individuals often receive media attention or may face risks inside. Separation is a safety measure, not special treatment," he said on 'Harian Metro' 'Apa-Apa Saja' podcast. Aziz stressed that the department's core principle is the "duty of care", ensuring the safety and welfare of inmates from entry until release. To reduce overcrowding, more than 6,500 low-risk inmates are now serving time outside prison under the Community Rehabilitation Programme. Aziz said the department now refers to inmates as "prospects" to remove stigma and support their reintegration into society. "We believe prospects can change, and society should accept them. Rehabilitation is as important as punishment." He also highlighted the Corporate Smart Internship Programme, where eligible inmates work in private companies and earn a minimum wage of RM1,700. Aziz acknowledged that many prison facilities are outdated, with some more than 100 years old, and hopes for additional funding to upgrade ageing infrastructure.
