5 Potential Trap Games on Michigan Football's 2025 Schedule
Expectations are high for the Michigan Wolverines heading into their 2025 season coming off of an 8-5 campaign.

Late last season, the Wolverines defeated Ohio State and Alabama in back-to-back weeks, scoring wins over the eventual national champions and one of the SEC's top teams in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
The Wolverines' 2025 schedule includes a mix of big name opponents and lesser known foes with coach Sherrone Moore's team expected to compete for a spot in the upper echelon of the Big Ten Conference.
The Wolverines will kick it all off with a game against the New Mexico Lobos on August 30 in Ann Arbor followed by a road trip to Oklahoma that could set the tone for the rest of a season littered with potential trap games.

Here are the top five games on Michigan's schedule that could be exponentially more difficult than they look at first glance:

5. At Nebraska (Sep. 20)-
Michigan holds a 6-4 all-time record against the Cornhuskers, with whom they split the 1997 National Championship.
The Wolverines have won four straight in the series meaning coach Matt Rhule's Cornhuskers will almost certainly have the September 20 game in Lincoln circled on the calendar.
4. Vs. Wisconsin (Oct. 4)-
The Badgers have become an afterthought in the Big Ten under Luke Fickell but they still play physical, focused football which could become a problem for a young Michigan offense.
Michigan will have to match the Badgers' intensity and take care of the football to win this game, especially with freshman QB Bryce Underwood expected to start against a physical and savvy opponent.

4. At USC (Oct. 11)-
The Trojans had Michigan against the ropes last season before Kalel Mullings ran wild and the Wolverines pulled out a thrilling 27-24 home victory.
Traveling to Los Angeles is never easy for a Big Ten team and the Trojans will have revenge on their minds.
3. At Michigan State (Oct. 25)-
Strange things happen around Halloween which is part of the reason why it's hard to count the Spartans out in this annual rivalry game.
Michigan State quarterback Aidan Chiles has the talent to be one of the better quarterbacks in the Big Ten.
Don't be surprised if Chiles takes the presence of Underwood as a challenge and steps up his game this season, both against the Wolverines and other Big Ten teams.

2. At Northwestern (Nov. 15)-
The Wildcats were embarrassed at the Big House last season and now have a chance to exact revenge in what could be a program-shifting game at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
The Northwestern game comes just before a road trip to Maryland and a home matchup with Ohio State giving it all the elements of a potential trap game.
1. At Maryland (Nov. 22)-
Michigan has not lost to the Terrapins since 2014 but Mike Locksley's group has come close to beating the Wolverines several times.
The Terps gave Michigan's 2023-24 National Championship team one of its toughest tests of the season suggesting that the 2025 game could go either way if the Wolverines aren't healthy and prepared to play one of their better games of the season in College Park.

Keys open to rare double but Sabalenka lies in wait
Madison Keys' Australian Open victory in January was hailed as a breakthrough success for a player who had long been touted for a grand slam triumph but never realised it. At 30, the American is young enough to build on that win, but not so young that she can take her time, and she wasted little in beating Olga Danilovic 6-4 6-2 to reach the Wimbledon third round on day three of the championships. The 37th-ranked Danilovic battled hard, saving five break points in one game in Wednesday's second set, but Keys always looked in control. After declaring the record-breaking opening day heat "quite toasty" the Florida resident said of the cooler conditions: "I definitely felt a little more comfortable today, it's the cloudy, rainy England we know and love so I felt a little more normal." The third round awaits 💪Madison Keys defeats Olga Danilovic 6-4, 6-2 to continue a confident start on return to #Wimbledon — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) July 2, 2025 Keys is seeking to emulate her teenage inspiration, Serena Williams, in achieving the relatively rare AO-Wimbledon double. Williams did this four times, but only three other players have won both events in the same calendar year since the Australian Open moved from grass to hard courts in 1988. Of those only Amelie Mauresmo, in 2006, has done so in the 21st century. Steffi Graf (1988 & 1989) and Martina Hingis (1997) are the others while most recently Ash Barty held both titles but won Wimbledon in 2021 and the Australian Open in 2022. With three of the top five seeds eliminated on Tuesday Keys is a serious contender, though Aryna Sabalenka, the woman she defeated at Melbourne Park, lies on the horizon. The pair are slated to meet in the quarter-finals after the No.1 seed beat Marie Bouzkova 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 on Centre Court. Sabalenka looked at risk of a shock herself after her 48th-ranked French opponent broke her to serve for the first set at 6-5. But Sabalenka broke back, took the tiebreak, and was never threatened again. Two more seeds were evicted, Paris Olympic silver medallist Donna Vekic and former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez. Vekic, seeded 22 and a semi-finalist here last year, went down 6-1 6-3 to Spain's Cristina Busca while Canadian 29th-seed Fernandez was beaten by German Laura Siegemund 6-2 6-3. Elsewhere rising Brit Sonay Kartal beat Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova 6-2 6-2,

Former USC 5-Star Sends Message After Finding New CFB Home
Former USC 5-Star Sends Message After Finding New CFB Home originally appeared on Athlon Sports. USC witnessed the high-profile decommit of five-star Xavier Griffin before the summer. The linebacker since then has officially found a new college football home. Advertisement The Georgia native ended his reopened recruiting chase on Sunday. This time choosing Alabama in a huge recruiting coup for the Crimson Tide. He's now the third five-star to choose the Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer -- joining running back Ezavier Crowell and Jorden Edmonds. Griffin didn't take long to fire off his first message after choosing the Tide. And after ending his free agency period following the decommit from USC. Here's what he shared via Hayes Fawcett of On3. USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley. Jonathan Hui-Imagn Images "TGBTG (To God be the Glory). Roll Tide!!!" he posted after announcing his verbal pledge to the SEC powerhouse. Alabama's SEC rivals Texas (coached by former USC HC Steve Sarkisian), Florida State and Ohio State all were in the final running for Griffin. Griffin spoke highly of 'Bama even before he made his decision. Advertisement "Bama has been the most consistent and persistent team in recruitment from day one," he told Bama247 days before the decision. "Coach C(hristian) Rob(inson) has truly taken the time to build a great relationship with me and my family. That's something that we appreciate more than anything. Everyone thinks because coach (Nick) Saban is gone, 'Bama is (too) but they have some great coaches and players so they are about to shock some people as well." There's new belief Alabama found its next Jihaad Campbell for the future. USC, however, remains in strong shape post Griffin. The Trojans still lead all programs as the top-ranked recruiting class for 2026. Tight end Mark Bowman is the more recent five-star addition -- choosing USC in May.
