Farmers' income doubled whenever TDP is in power, says Naidu
'The agriculture sector's contribution to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is less compared to the services sector. Notwithstanding, the State government is determined to give a fillip to the agriculture and allied sectors, given the fact that farmers' income is important than State revenues,' Mr. Naidu said while addressing the Animal Husbandry-Tech AI 2.0 conclave here on Wednesday.
Mr. Naidu said Andhra Pradesh topped the country in agriculture. The State was know as 'Annapoorna'. However, the services and industrial sectors also needed growth. In Telangana, 67% of income came from the services sector, whereas in Andhra Pradeh, it was only 46%.
Under the TDP government, the dairy sector, too, grew at 22% CAGR (compound annual growth rate), he said. Currently, livestock generated ₹1.69 lakh crore income, and as many as 42 lakh families depended on livestock.
The State's livestock contribution to the GSDP grew from ₹43,127 crore in 2014–15 to ₹91,633 crore by 2018–19, marking a 21% CAGR during the TDP government's tenure. However, the growth rate declined to 11% between 2019–24, he said.
The Chief Minister said that in 2024–25, the livestock sector earned ₹1.69 lakh crore. The target for 2025–26 was set at ₹1.95 lakh crore. The Animal Husbandry Department, which played a vital role in driving Andhra Pradesh's growth, would continue to receive top priority under the NDA government, Mr. Naidu said, adding, currently, the sector contributed 11.23% to the GSDP.
Mr. Naidu underlined the need to promote high-value horticulture crops, which bring higher returns compared to traditional farming. Horticulture on 18 lakh hectares currently generates ₹1.55 lakh crore, while agriculture across 50 lakh hectares brings ₹55,000 crore. 'The goal is to double the horticulture area to 36 lakh hectares. Hence, the government plans to promote high-income horticultural crops, increasing coverage from 18 to 36 lakh hectares,' he said.
Outlining the government's vision for the livestock and poultry industries, Mr. Naidu announced key reforms, including exemption of property and house tax on village-level dairy sheds. The government would streamline Central schemes online, review mobile veterinary ambulance requirements, and integrate NREGS for water supply and fodder-related work.
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan would work closely with departments to design actionable roadmaps. The State would provide solar power of up to 1,000 units, introduce grass-cutting machines for women, and expand micro-irrigation to 2.5 lakh acres this year, he added.
The programme was organised by the Animal Husbandry Department, in association with the Global Forum for Sustainable Transformation.

Door-to-door campaign: TDP reaches out to over 50 lakh families in 18 days
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has created a record of sorts by reaching out to 50 lakh families in just 18 days as part of its door-to-door campaign on the coalition government's achievements in the last one year, during which the party cadres are also gathering public feedback on the performance of the ruling parties. The TDP cadres are explaining to people about the government's welfare and development initiatives, so that those eligible for various schemes can avail of the benefits, a release issued by the TDP said. The campaign aims to inform citizens about major welfare schemes such as pensions, recruitment of teachers, Thalliki Vandhanam, Anna Canteens, and Deepam-2, create awareness about investments being mobilised and jobs being provided through various projects in the State. The TDP leaders are distributing pamphlets customised for the three regions of Uttarandhra, the other coastal districts and Rayalaseema. These leaflets contain details of the region-specific development programmes, making it easy for the people to understand the progress being achieved. Mr. Lokesh is monitoring the campaign by keeping in touch with the people's representatives, leaders and workers. The campaign is structured in such a way that the Ministers can cover up to 85 constituencies. The houses covered by each worker are being tracked and updated daily on a central dashboard.

CM Naidu calls for plastic-free Andhra, links excessive use to cancer risk
Tirupati, Jul 19 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday called for the elimination of plastic to protect the environment, claiming that 'excessive use of plastic can lead to cancer". Addressing a meeting in Tirupati as part of the 'Swarna Andhra-Swachh Andhra' initiative, Naidu said that plastic has become 'the biggest demon" threatening the environment. The vision lays out a comprehensive framework for economic advancement, social equity, environmental sustainability, and governance excellence. 'To protect the environment, we must chase away this plastic demon. Excessive use of plastic can lead to cancer… No one should fall victim to this," the chief minister said. From toothbrushes to the plates we eat from, he pointed out that plastic has become a part of daily life, adding that common items like water bottles, cups, and covers are harmful. He further claimed that 'plastic pollution is contaminating the soil", hindering the percolation of rainwater, and causing other environmental issues. Naidu announced plans to make the state secretariat plastic-free by August 15, extend this initiative to all municipalities by October 2, and implement it across the state by December. Calling on every citizen to be part of the 'Swachh Andhra' mission by keeping their homes and surroundings clean, he also promised to clear all piled-up garbage across the state by October. The chief minister noted that the TDP-led NDA government had approved solar panel installations for 20 lakh homes, turning rooftops, offices, and fields into hubs of solar energy. 'I'm focusing on green energy. With global warming triggering multiple challenges, green energy is the only solution," he said. Criticising YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, Naidu alleged that the latter 'created chaos" during a recent visit to Bangarupalyam by 'dumping mangoes" on the road while meeting farmers. Naidu said the NDA alliance government came to the rescue of mango farmers by ensuring a payment of Rs 12,000 per tonne—Rs 4,000 from the government and Rs 8,000 from buyers. Earlier, during a visit to an integrated waste processing plant at Tukivakam village in Tirupati, the chief minister directed officials to make Andhra Pradesh 'a national model in waste processing and utilisation." Urban experts call for expansion of civic limits to include urbanised villages
While there has been general concurrence among urban planners and experts on the way the city's civic limits have been divided into five corporations , many argue that the municipal limits should have been expanded to include areas beyond today's civic limits that are urbanised. 'We seem to be trying to solve yesterday's problem and not tomorrow's. We are confronting this problem because we did not anticipate this years ago. We still do not seem to be addressing a ground reality that most of the new migrants into the city are settling outside the civic limits, urbanising those areas,' said urban expert Ashwin Mahesh, arguing for four more corporations beyond the civic limits, all to be brought under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). GBA has been notified to be the BBMP area only, with a promise to be expanded at a later stage. Initially, there was a proposal to include at least 25 urbanised villages beyond the civic limits in the GBA. However, that was put on hold. Sources said while GBA will be expanded, areas beyond the civic limits may be municipalised or kept under zilla panchayats and their representatives be given a seat at the GBA. Given the disparity in revenue generation capacity of the five corporations and the role of the Chief Minister-led GBA to bring in a balance through State grants, N.S. Mukunda of Bengaluru Praja Vedike, said that there was a need to develop a comprehensive ward development index which becomes an impartial and transparent yardstick to allocate funds. 'A corporation that may need money may elect an opposition party to that in power in the State, and this can create a situation where that corporation may be starved of funds and development. We should ideally avoid such situations. If an impartial development index becomes the yardstick, we can hope to achieve some balance over the next few years,' he said. Mr. Mahesh also said that given the wide disparity in area and population of these corporations, delimitation of wards will end up with unequal wards, a problem that already plagues the city. He said each corporation should be allowed to have its own delimitation exercise to ensure equal representation within that corporation. However, others oppose this argument. 'According to the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2024, each corporation can have a maximum of 150 wards. To bring parity in the larger GBA area, we can ensure a corporation with a smaller population will have a lesser number of wards and those with a larger population more wards,' an official said.
