Chilli Manis: From Zero to Singapore's 4.8-Star Caterer in 7 Years

SINGAPORE - Media OutReach Newswire - 2 July 2025 - In just seven years, Chilli Manis has grown from humble beginnings to become one of Singapore's best-rated food caterers. Their swift ascent—marked by industry accolades and glowing customer reviews—is powered by a unique blend of Peranakan heritage, unshakable resilience, and a simple yet profound mantra: "Love Your Guests, Serve the Best."
A Dream Built on Grit, Faith & Peranakan Heart
Launched in 2018 as a niche Peranakan catering concept, Chilli Manis was a bold experiment within its investor group. Managing Director Benjamin Seow, inspired by his mother, Madam Serene Hoh's decades of Nyonya culinary wisdom, became the driving force behind the brand's vision.
"We started from absolute zero," Benjamin shares. "Everything—from menus to props—was built in-house. With no clients or reputation, morale was low. Every order felt like a miracle." After a grueling first year, signs of progress began to show—only for COVID-19 to bring everything to a halt. "Our growing momentum vanished overnight," Benjamin recalls. "But we saw it as a chance to focus on what truly mattered."
With events on pause, the team turned inward. Every member—from chefs to delivery staff—underwent training in what would become their non-negotiable standard: True Peranakan hospitality goes beyond food—it's about warmth, care, and treating every guest like family. "When the industry rebounded, we weren't just ready with recipes—we were ready with heart," Benjamin adds.

What Makes Us 'Best' - The People Who Believe in Us
What defines the best food caterer? For some, it's recognition. For others, it's the memories created around a shared meal. At Chilli Manis, it's both—and more.
In 2024, Chilli Manis was honoured as Singapore's Most Popular Promising Brand at the Singapore Prestige Brand Awards (SPBA)—a milestone that reflects their deep respect for tradition, keen eye for detail, and unwavering commitment to innovation.
They are also Singapore's highest-rated caterer on Google, with a 4.8-star rating from over 1,300 reviews. Customers often praise the brand's authentic Peranakan flavours, elegant presentation, and a hospitality that feels like home.
"We began with a modest kitchen and big dreams," Benjamin reflects. "Today, we're living proof that when you pour heart into every dish and care into every event, success follows naturally. But our greatest reward isn't the awards—it's seeing first-time customers become regulars, and regulars become like family."

Middle East investors should pivot to emerging markets and gold amid weak dollar: Standard Chartered

Investors in the Middle East should rebalance their portfolios to make the most of a weak dollar, according to a Standard Chartered report. Standard Chartered has released its Global Market Outlook for H2 2025, projecting a 'constructive but volatile' investment landscape, with Middle East investors well-placed to benefit from a weaker US dollar, resilient equity markets, and renewed momentum in emerging markets. The bank's report anticipates a softening US dollar over the next six to 12 months, and has upgraded Asia (ex-Japan) equities and Emerging Market (EM) local-currency bonds to Overweight. Standard Chartered investment report Global equities also remain favoured across portfolios, supported by healthy earnings, easing trade tensions and controlled inflation. Key takeaways for Middle East investors: Emerging markets offer strong return potential in a weak-dollar environment Gold is a core allocation, driven by central bank demand and diversification benefits 5–7 year USD-denominated bonds are preferred for risk-adjusted returns Developed Market Investment Grade corporate bonds downgraded to Underweight due to compressed yields and limited upside Ayesha Abbas, Managing Director and Head of Affluent and Wealth Solutions, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and UAE at Standard Chartered, said: 'As global markets transition into a new phase, Middle East investors are well-positioned to capitalise on emerging opportunities. A weaker dollar historically supports returns across risk assets, particularly in emerging markets, which have long been core components of regional portfolios. 'This outlook underscores a critical moment for investors in the region. As the global environment adjusts to weak dollar dynamics, shifting trade policies, and diverging central bank actions, investors in the Middle East have an opportunity to reposition portfolios with greater international diversification. 'Asset classes such as emerging market bonds and equities across major regions (including non-US equities) are well-placed to help investors navigate volatility, capture income, and enhance portfolio resilience in today's shifting landscape.' Alternative investments are also in focus, with the Bank highlighting gold as a core allocation, supported by strong central bank demand and its role as a diversifier when bonds offer less downside protection. As macroeconomic dynamics evolve — including fiscal support in Europe, stabilisation in China, and continued strength in India and ASEAN — Standard Chartered advises investors to adapt proactively to shifting trade policies, diverging central bank actions, and volatile currency trends.

Global air cargo demand rises 2.2% in May despite trade pressures

The International Air Transport Association (Iata) has released its latest figures for May 2025, showing a 2.2% year-on-year increase in global air cargo demand, despite ongoing disruptions in major trade lanes. Measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTK), total demand rose by 2.2% compared to May 2024, with international operations up 3.0%. Available capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometres (ACTK), also increased by 2.0% compared to May 2024 (+2.6% for international). "Air cargo demand globally grew 2.2% in May. That is encouraging news, as a 10.7% drop in traffic on the Asia to North America trade lane illustrated the dampening effect of shifting US trade policies. "Even as these policies evolve, already we can see the air cargo sector's well-tested resilience helping shippers to accommodate supply chain needs to flexibly hold back, re-route or accelerate deliveries," says Willie Walsh, Iata's director general. Operating environment highlights Key market conditions in May included: • Global industrial production rose 2.6% year-on-year in April, with air cargo volumes up 6.8% over the same period, outpacing global goods trade growth of 3.8%. • Jet fuel prices in May were 18.8% lower than a year earlier and 4.3% down month-on-month. • Global manufacturing activity contracted, with the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) falling to 49.1, below the 50-mark indicating growth. New export orders remained in negative territory at 48. Regional market performance • Asia-Pacific airlines led the market, reporting 8.3% growth in cargo demand — the strongest of all regions. Capacity rose 5.7%. • North American carriers recorded a -5.8% decline in demand, the weakest of all regions. Capacity fell -3.2%. • European carriers saw a 1.6% increase in demand, with capacity up 1.5%. • Middle Eastern airlines posted a 3.6% rise in demand and a 4.2% increase in capacity. • Latin American airlines reported a 3.1% increase in demand, with capacity growing 3.5%. • African airlines experienced a -2.1% decline in demand, despite a 2.7% capacity increase. Trade lane trends The much-anticipated decrease in the Asia-North America lane materialised, dropping -10.7% year-on-year as front-loading ahead of tariff changes ended and new de-minimis exemptions for e-commerce shipments took effect. However, other key routes recorded significant growth: • Europe-Asia: +13.4% (27 consecutive months of growth) • Middle East-Asia: +10.8% (third consecutive month of growth) • Within Asia: +9.1% (19 consecutive months of growth) • North America-Europe: +8.2% (16 consecutive months of growth) Meanwhile, Africa-Asia traffic fell by 14.6% year-on-year. Iata noted the resilience of the sector in managing supply chain volatility and shifting trade policies, with several trade routes demonstrating unexpected growth as cargo flows reorganised globally.
