Gang of girls as young as 13 allegedly roll stolen car in Brighton, Melbourne

Daily Mail6 days ago
A group of teenage girls are lucky to be alive after an allegedly stolen car crashed and flipped onto its roof in a ritzy Melbourne suburb.
Police were called to Rooding Street in the bayside suburb of Brighton about 9.45pm on Monday following reports a black Subaru Forester had smashed into multiple parked vehicles and then rolled.
The teenagers managed to escape the wreckage and fled the scene on foot.
Dramatic photos and footage showed the overturned Subaru Forester flipped on its roof in the middle of the road, which was strewn with broken glass and debris.
Shocked residents were seen inspecting the extensive damage to their vehicles after they helped to free the passengers from the wreckage.
They claimed that up to eight teens may have been inside the car at the time, which was allegedly stolen in Carnegie, about 7km away, earlier in the night.
Bottles of vodka were reportedly also found in the car.
A jetlagged Sarah Cavalier and her family had just returned from their overseas holiday when they were woken by a massive bang outside.
Her car was one of those hit by the Subaru.
'We all ran out and all of a sudden the car was literally right across the whole road and there were all these kids inside going "I need my phone", and they were carrying on and trying to get out,' Ms Cavalier told Sunrise.
'We're all saying, "it's alright, just get out of the car, everything is fine".'
She had no idea the car had been allegedly stolen until the teens fled the scene.
'There's a massive power pole on one side, there's a tree on this side. If they'd hit that pole, there would have been somebody dead for sure,' Ms Cavalier said.
'I don't know how they didn't get seriously hurt.'
Ms Cavalier, who has children of a similar age, said it was 'sad' and 'unbelievable' the teenagers were out on a Monday night.
Three 13-year-old girls and one 17-year-old girl were arrested a short time later and transported to hospital with minor injuries.
They were summoned to face a children's court at a later date.
No other injuries were reported.
The incident has renewed calls for a crackdown on youth crime in the affluent suburb.
'It's not being treated as seriously as it should be,' a resident told the Herald Sun.
'I think the bail laws are just waffle (and) they aren't strong enough. They are out on the street again hours after all this happened.'
One of Brighton's most famous residents, AFL WAG turned anti-crime crusader Bec Judd, has long criticised the state government's response to the epidemic.

Four friends dead in horrific freeway car crash involving drunk driver

Four friends tragically lost their lives in a car accident after a drunk driver slammed into their vehicle on a freeway in Norwalk, California. At around 1am on July 20, the group of 24-year-olds was driving home from a concert when their Nissan got involved in a crash with a California Highway Patrol vehicle and stalled on in the middle of the 605 freeway. That's when a Kia slammed into the back of the Nissan at high speed, causing the latter to burst into flames and trapping the four friends inside, where they all died. According to officials, the Kia's driver was drunk. 'This was entirely preventable due to the fact that one of the drivers was driving under the influence,' said CHP Officer Zachary Salazar. The victims were identified as Julie Harmori, her boyfriend Armando Del Campo, and their two friends, Jordan Partidge and Sam Skocili. They were pronounced dead at the scene. Kathy Stickel, Harmori's aunt, said that Partridge had called her mother after the initial crash with the CHP vehicle to let her know that the group had been in accident, but that they were okay. However, in the middle of the call, the line went dead. This was the moment the Kia slammed into their car. Stickel said that the four friend had formed deep-rooted friendships with one another that stretched back many years. 'She was about the relationships,' Stickel said of her niece, adding that the group had been friends since junior high school. The families of all four victims are turning to each other for support. 'All the parents are checking on each other,' Stickel said. 'They're also checking on people who they've met through this whole tragedy.' Family members created a joint GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses. 'Proceeds will be divided evenly among the four families' parents, as they scramble to memorialize their children,' the fundraiser page read. Heartbreaking The other two victims were identified as the couple's two friends, Sam Skocili left) and Jordan Partidge (right) The Kia driver, Iris Salmeron, 26, of Bellflower, and her passenger, who was unidentified, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Salmeron was arrested and is now facing multiple felony charges, including driving under the influence. CHP Officer Salazar said: 'Our hearts go out to the families who are involved in terms of the victims…our officers are going to investigate this to the best of their ability.'

Aussie rushed to hospital with spinal injuries after falling from Bali hotel balcony in notorious party district

An Australian man has fallen from the second floor of a Bali hotel and suffered serious spinal injuries. The 30-year-old man, known only as Dylan, fell from a balcony of the Ramada Encore Hotel in Kuta on Saturday about 4.25am. Badung Fire Department released video footage which shows emergency service crews lowering the man to the ground on a stretcher. He can be heard saying, 'I can't' and 'oh my god' as he groaned in pain. Bali authorities confirmed the Australian had suffered a tailbone fracture as a result of the fall. The circumstances surrounding the fall are not yet known. Kuta has a controversial reputation among travel bloggers as it has become known for 'over-tourism' along with its rowdy nightlife and heavily congested traffic. The district in the south of the capital Denpasar was rocked by a similar tragedy earlier this year. Melbourne woman Courtney Mills died after falling from her hotel balcony in Kuta. Ms Mills, a passionate DJ, was found lying on the side of the hotel's pool around 1am after hotel staff took her to her room around an hour earlier. Kuta Police Chief Agus Diwayanto Dwiputra told the ABC that Mills had been drinking. Her sister Kiani praised the DJ's 'sparkle' as she paid tribute following the tragic incident. 'Our hearts are shattered as we share the devastating news of the sudden passing of our beloved Courtney Mills, in Bali,' she posted on Facebook. 'Courtney touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her light, sparkle, and spirit will forever remain with us. 'Courtney lived her life to the fullest and brought so much joy to those around her.'
