Amazon Prime Day (s) is almost upon up as the mass sale from the shopping giant commences on July 8 until July 11. To get shoppers excited for the upcoming event, Amazon has already begun slashing the prices of some items, such as a pair of straighteners that beauty fans call 'better than GHD'.
The BaByliss Smooth Pro 235 Hair Straighteners usually retail at £80 but Amazon is currently offering them for £31.99 - beating Argos' price tag of £40. With 60% off for the regular sizing, the Smooth Pro Wide BaByliss straighteners are also available for £34.49.
Crafted with nano-ceramic plates that have ionic technology, the straighteners are made to glide over the hair straightening it whilst eliminating static and frizz. The stylers' Advanced Ceramics heating system also ensures speedy styling as it has an ultra-fast heat-up that remains consistent throughout every section.

Costing £139, the straighteners also have Single-zone™ technology to ensure consistent heat distribution and floating plates for 'effortless styling that leaves hair feeling softer'.
For a pair of straighteners that have nine temperature settings ranging from 150 to 230C, the Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straightener from Boots costs £27.26 down from £79. Rivalling the deal on Amazon, these stylers have Advanced Ceramic coated plates that come infused with Moroccan Argan Oil with Vitamin E for an 'ultra glossy' finish with customers stating their hair is "94% smoother and sleeker'.

BaByliss Smooth Pro 235 Hair Straighteners
However, the BaByliss straighteners have been praised by hair care buffs for being 'just as good as professional ones' with some saying they're better for curling hair too thanks to their sleek design.
One person who left a five star review raved: "My ghds broke and was looking for a replacement pair, however could not afford the price of ghds. These are just as good and look/feel professional. Slightly thinner than my old straighteners which has been better for curling. I find it much easier to do with these than my old ones, especially as you can increase the heat to keep the curl."
Someone else simply stated: "Amazing hair straighteners, leaves my hair so smooth and love how I can pick the heat."
It seems that the performance of the straighteners has seriously impressed some users with the only disappointment for one person being that the straighteners came 'poorly packaged'.

They shared of their experience: "These were poorly packaged and the box open at one end. Looked like they had fallen out of the box in transit as they weren't put back in properly wrapped. No tape to fasten the box closed and in the original box so it was damaged. Performance wise, they are great straighteners and work well on my frizz prone fine hair better than other straighteners. The rating is lower because of the packaging."
Despite the packaging, the quality of the product has been marvelled at by many - showcased in its 4.5 star rating - and one shopper even thinks they've not a patch on more expensive alternatives.
"I had my faithful first generation GHDs for around 16 years. But I literally used them to death. When they stopped working I bought another pair of GHDs from GHD directly. However, these weren't a patch on my first ones. The plates kept catching in my hair and pulling one or two hairs out each time I used them. And they didn't seem to get as hot as my first pair. After straightening as soon as I left the house my hair would frizz up immediately and just looked like a bouffant mess. I sent them back. I tried my friend's Cloud 9 but I didn't like how hot the outsides got.

"These Babyliss straighteners had been recommended by Guardian beauty journalist Sali Hughes and they were cheap so I got these to tide me over while I searched for a long term solution. But these are amazing! My hair has never looked so straight or glossy. I actually prefer them to my first GHDs (which were around £100 back in 2005)."
The BaByliss Smooth Pro 235 Hair Straighteners are on sale at Amazon for £31.99 for a limited time only.

Absolutely fur-bulous! 90 years in pet care with a tail-wagging paw-ty for Battersea's oldest residents

Absolutely fur-bulous! 90 years in pet care with a tail-wagging paw-ty for Battersea's oldest residents Mars has spent nearly a century delivering science-backed nutrition, veterinary care, and innovation through its iconic brands The celebration spotlighted all the love senior pets can give (Image: 2025 Getty Images) A pet care specialist is marking 90 years in the business by hosting a heartwarming "paw-ty" for senior dogs this August – the universal birthday for shelter dogs. ‌ While also behind well-loved snacking and food brands, Maltesers, Galaxy, Ben's Original and Skittles, Mars first ventured into pet care in 1935 with the acquisition of UK-based Chappell Brothers, the maker of Chappie canned dog food. Since then, Mars has grown into one of the world's most trusted names in pet care. ‌ Throughout the 1950s and '60s, the company expanded its pet offerings with pet food brands such as Pedigree, Whiskas and Sheba while establishing the pioneering Waltham Petcare Science Institute. ‌ Mars has spent nearly a century delivering science-backed nutrition, veterinary care, and innovation through its iconic brands. Caring for the nations' dogs, cats, horses, and even fish, the business has a love for pets that runs deep throughout its 90-year history. Mars celebrates 90 years in Pet Care with a Tail-Wagging Paw-ty for Batterseas oldest residents (Image: 2025 Getty Images) That's why, as Mars marks this impressive milestone, the company has chosen to celebrate with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home VIPs (very important pooches), as a joyful reminder that great things come with age. The event saw spritely Sue, Battersea's nine-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, mark her special day surrounded by decorations, treats, friends, tail wags, and fellow senior pup Gioia, a 10-year-old Maltese, who brought an extra touch of senior sparkle as the two enjoyed the celebrations side by side. ‌ The celebration spotlighted all the love senior pets can give. Each year, many older pets arrive and stay at UK shelters, often overlooked in favour of puppies and kittens. In fact, a recent Mars Global Pet Parent Study of more than 20,000 people revealed that only 16% of dogs and cats acquired globally are over the age of one. Despite this, new research commissioned by Mars reveals that it's not just puppy love, with UK adults most likely to associate senior dogs with loyalty (50%) and a loving nature (41%). Meanwhile, a third believe senior dogs to be gentle (33%) and trusting (32%). In fact, four fifths (80%) of UK adults who have sadly lost a pet believe that the emotional bond with their pet grew stronger over time, while another 64% believe that their pet understood them better as they aged – with almost half (47%) considering adopting a senior pet. ‌ Speaking about the celebrations, Nick Foster, general manager for Mars Pet Nutrition UK, Ireland, and Nordics, said: 'For 90 years, we've championed the well-being of pets, from dogs and cats to horses and even fish! "As we reflect on nine decades of wagging tails and nourished bellies, and mark DOGust, it felt only natural to work with our long-term partners at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home. "We're proud to feed all the dogs and cats in Battersea's care and together, on Mars 90th anniversary in pet care, we're shining a light on our shared mission: helping pets of all ages find their forever homes, and celebrating the joy, companionship and wellbeing they bring to people's lives.' ‌ With Global data from the Mars' State of Pet Homelessness Project revealing that nearly one in three dogs and cats are homeless, Mars Petcare is continuing its works with Battersea, and shelters across the world, to raise awareness and end pet homelessness, for dogs and cats of all ages. Jay McGuinness, rehoming and welfare manager at Battersea said: 'Senior dogs, despite their age, still have a lot of love and affection to give, and Battersea works to find them suitable homes for their twilight years. "That's why we are delighted to be celebrating Mars 90th anniversary in pet care by honouring these golden oldies and raising awareness of just how wonderful older pets can be, and all the love they have to give. ‌ "Our partnership with Mars, now in its 17th year, has been instrumental - not only providing the animals in our care with the nutrition and care they need, but also through shared initiatives that help more pets find the loving homes they deserve.' Dr Tammie King, animal behaviour scientist at Waltham Petcare Science Institute, part of the Petcare business at Mars, added: 'Senior pets are often overlooked but make excellent companions. They just need a few adjustments to thrive - tailored nutrition, regular vet check-ups, gentle exercise, and above all, lots of care and understanding. They have so much to give!' As an expert in pet behaviour and welfare, and Human-Animal Interactions (HAI), Mars' Dr Tammie King shared her top five tips for helping senior pets thrive – making sure their golden years are the best ones yet! Article continues below Adapt diets throughout life stages: Growing puppies, fully grown adults and senior dogs all have differing nutritional needs to stay as healthy as possible Old dogs can (and should) learn new tricks: Just like humans, as our pets age they can show age-related cognitive impairment – affecting memory, learning ability, perception and awareness. But regular training and games can help keep their minds sharp Let's get physical! Exercise is crucial for senior dogs' physical and mental wellbeing. Regular low intensity walks can be a great way to help manage weight, maintain muscle mass, and reduce the risk of behavioural problems associated with boredom Don't overlook dental care: Older dogs are more prone to dental issues, which can affect how much and how they eat and how they feel Enjoy the little moments! It's normal for a dog to gradually slow down with age Mars 90th anniversary Paw‑ty forms part of the company's longstanding partnership with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home which is rooted in a shared commitment to improving the lives of pets, spanning initiatives like food donations and supporting nutritional training of staff. More recently, both organisations have been jointly campaigning to have pet provisions included in the Renters Rights Bill, to improve access to pet-friendly housing across the private-rented sector so more people can experience the joy, and benefits pets can bring.

New Ofgem rules will shift collapse costs from customers to failed energy suppliers Households will no longer fund supplier failures through higher bills Costs will be recovered from the assets of collapsed firms via insolvency The change follows energy market chaos after the 2021–22 price surge It aims to build a more financially resilient and fairer energy market UK energy customers could soon be better protected from the financial fallout when their supplier goes bust, thanks to new rules that aim to shield households from picking up the tab. Energy regulator Ofgem has unveiled reforms that will make collapsed suppliers pay the costs of moving their customers to a new company — a shift that could save households money and bring greater stability to the market. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad What's changing? Until now, when a supplier failed, surviving energy companies would be reimbursed through a special levy, often passing the cost onto billpayers. But under the new rule, that financial burden will fall on the failed supplier's remaining assets instead. The changes come in response to the chaos of 2021 and 2022, when dozens of UK energy firms folded during the global energy price spike triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. (Photo: DANIEL LEAL/AFP via Getty Images) | AFP via Getty Images Millions of customers were left in limbo, and the cost of propping up the market ran into the billions — much of which was ultimately covered by consumers through higher bills. How the new rules work From now on, under the new Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR) Levy Offset rule, energy companies that take over customers from a failed firm will no longer automatically claim those costs from the public pot. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Instead, they'll be reimbursed via the failed company's estate — clawing back cash from any remaining assets through the insolvency process. Tim Jarvis, Ofgem's director general for markets, said: 'Protecting consumers remains our number one priority... When [energy companies] do fail, it's right that they cover the costs first — not consumers. 'This new rule will make sure shareholders do not benefit from an insolvency process until the costs of keeping their customers on supply have been covered.' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad What it means for you It's the latest in a series of moves by the regulator to tighten up financial oversight of energy firms. Earlier this year, Ofgem introduced new rules requiring suppliers to maintain financial buffers, essentially forcing firms to hold a certain amount of cash to cope with market shocks or price spikes. The reforms aim to prevent the kind of domino-effect collapses seen in recent years, and to ensure that when firms do fold, the cost doesn't land on customers' bills. Ofgem says the changes will help build a more resilient energy market, one where competition can still thrive, but where consumers are protected from the consequences when things go wrong behind the scenes. Tefal steamer that makes clothes look 'fresh and smart' 45% off on Amazon

The Tefal Pure Pop clothes steamer is now £29 Handheld steamers have become a popular choice for quickly removing wrinkles and refreshing clothes without the hassle of an ironing board. A handy tool for quick wrinkle removal, the Tefal Pure Pop Slim Handheld Clothes Steamer is now available at a substantial discount on Amazon. The steamer is currently priced at £29 on Amazon, down from its usual £49.99, offering a 42 per cent saving. Available in coral, pink, yellow, and green, it's designed to quickly refresh clothes without the need for an ironing board. The Tefal Pure Pop heats up in just 15 seconds and delivers 20g of steam per minute from its 70ml detachable water tank. Its reversible pad features a velvet side for delicate fabrics and a lint removal side to tackle pet hair. The steamer works both vertically and horizontally, making it easy to refresh clothes on the hanger or handle tricky areas like collars and cuffs. Compact and lightweight, it comes with a travel pouch, making it ideal for on-the-go use. Alternatives to consider include the Morphy Richards Express Steam Handheld Garment Steamer, which has a 4.5-star rating from 80 reviews and is currently priced at £29.99. And the Russell Hobbs Steam Genie Essential Garment Steamer with a 4.4-star rating from 357 reviews at £28.00 on Argos. The Tefal Pure Pop holds a solid 4.3 out of 5 stars from 1,944 Amazon reviews, reflecting strong overall satisfaction. One user praised its quick heat-up and ease of use, saying it "easily gets creases out of clothes with little effort" and calling it perfect for travel. They added that it "really refreshes clothes and makes them look fresh and smart after packing." The small water chamber required frequent refilling, but this was seen as a benefit for portability. On the downside, one user said: "Great heat up time and durable. Helps remove wrinkles as an iron does and great to use and transport. Only problem is that you need to hang it up straight to use - it's annoying and need two people whereas with the iron you can just lay it flat on a bed. Don't recommend." Another reviewer noted it works well on trousers and jackets that can be damaged by traditional ironing but cautioned that it's not ideal for creating a perfectly crisp shirt. Still, they found it useful and valued especially at the discounted price. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! A fourth person said it "completely changed the way I travel," removing creases quickly and efficiently, comparing its performance to a regular iron. They called it "highly recommended for anyone who wants to look sharp on the go." Another reviewer was less impressed, writing: "Pretty average to be honest. It does get rid of some creases but it will not replace an iron. It doesn't leak, it stores enough water for 1 or 2 shirts and then needs a refill. A longer lead would be useful as well. Easy to use." If it's a quick, travel-friendly steamer you want, the Tefal Pure Pop is worth considering with its strong ratings and handy features.
