Akal Takht, Takht Patna Sahib resolve differences as edicts declaring members 'tankhaiya' were withdrawn

To deliberate on the contents of the letter, a meeting of the Sikh clergy was convened on Monday. In this, earlier resolutions passed during meetings of five high priests on May 21 and July 5 were reconsidered in light of panthic unity, the broader interests of the community and necessary amendments were made accordingly.
Gargaj further said that simultaneously, the Takht Patna Sahib also convened a meeting and accepted the supreme authority of Akal Takht.
"They decided to withdraw the resolutions passed on May 21 and July 5 by Takht Patna Sahib," he said.
Gargaj announced that the five high priests at Akal Takht, on May 21, had passed a decree stopping 'panthic' services of Head Granthi of Takht Patna Sahib Bhai Baldev Singh and additional head Granthi Gurdial Singh, stood cancelled today.
Former Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Ranjit Singh Gauhar was directed to withdraw the case filed against the management committee of Takht Patna Sahib.
He ordered the president and general secretary of the management committee of Takht Patna Sahib to pay all pending dues of Gauhar.
Gargaj added that it is heartening that the recent discord between the two Takhts has now been completely resolved through mutual cooperation. He further said that he will soon visit Takht Patna Sahib and pay obeisance.

At Sadbhavna Camp, tradition of Muslims showering kanwariyas with rose petals continues
On a stretch of road that runs parallel to a mosque and a cemetery in Northeast Delhi's Jafrabad, Kawariyas dressed in saffron arrive one after the other. As they approach a camp for kanwars, named 'Sadbhavna Camp', the kawariyas chant their usual refrain – 'Bam Lahiri' and 'Bol Bam.' But at this particular camp, something is different. A group of men, wearing white kurtas and skull caps, wait at the camp's entrance with rose petals in their hands. 'Hamare kawariya bhai aa rahe hain, unka swagat kariye, unko namaste kariye, unko salaam kijiye (Our Kanwariya brothers are coming, welcome them, greet them, salute them),' a man announces. As the kanwariyas pass the camp, the men raise their arms and release the rose petals into the air. 'Hindu-Muslim-Sikh-Isai, aapas mein hain hum sab bhai-bhai… Hindustan zindabad, Hindustan ki ekta zindabad (Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, we are all brothers… Long live India, long live the unity of India),' they chant. As the petals land on the kanwariyas, for a moment, they slow down, confused. Then someone cheers, 'Jai Bholenath', and the rest join in. Inside the camp, there is chilled water, fruits, soft drinks, and shade under a blue-and-white fabric tent erected by Seelampur MLA Zubair Chaudhary. A sign outside reads: 'Sadbhavna Camp mein aap sabhi kanwariyon ka hardik swagat.' The camp was first set up in 1994 as an attempt to reduce communal disharmony in the area. It was the initiative of Chaudhary's father, Chaudhary Mateen Ahmed, a five-time Congress MLA. While the family has since shifted allegiance to the Aam Aadmi Party before this year's Delhi elections, the 31-year-old tradition of Muslims showering kanwariyas with rose petals continues. 'Before 1994, when kanwariyas used to pass from here, fights or riots would break out. They usually chant 'Bam Bam' or 'Har Har Mahadev' but because the residents here didn't understand these chants, they felt they were being provoked. The tension would carry forward to Seelampur, where Muslims were targeted in retaliation,' Zubair told The Indian Express. 'After my father became MLA in 1993, he organised the first camp the following year. He sat here with the members of the Muslim community to ensure peace. The most remarkable thing was that the entire community supported it. Thirty-one years have passed since that first camp, and there hasn't been a single untoward incident. The goal has always been to ensure that Shiv bhakts, those who bring back Gangajal from Gaumukh, Haridwar and Rishikesh, are able to walk without facing any trouble,' he added. Jafrabad was among the neighbourhoods worst hit during the 2020 Delhi riots. Memories of charred homes and lost lives still linger. But at the Sadbhavna camp, saffron and white co-exits. 'Much has been lost, but much has survived. We hope this helps heal past bruises,' said Riyaz Uddin, who has been serving at the camp for all of its 31 years. 'Every year, we sit here, handing out fruits and water to our kawariya brothers and sisters.' 'We all want to live like brothers and sisters. We want unity, we are all Indians. We shouldn't be fighting,' said Prabhat Lal, a Jafrabad resident and a volunteer at the camp. 'An initiative like this bridges gaps and builds kindness in our hearts.' A few kanwariyas leave the camp with rose petals still clinging to their shoulders. 'The journey has been long, but I don't feel tired. Faith gives me the strength to walk for miles. And this gesture has given me even more courage,' said Jitendra Shyam, a contractor from Rajasthan who is on the pilgrimage with his neighbour.

Family of Nakodar firing victim alleges govt ‘inaction', distraction from justice
Jalandhar: After finance minister Harpal Cheema on Tuesday raised the issue of the Justice Gurnam Singh Commission report on the incidents of sacrilege and police firing in Nakodar in 1986, and its action taken part missing from the assembly record, the family of one of the victims alleged that the issue was being used to distract from the real matter at hand while the AAP govt actively blocked efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Nakodar massacre to justice. During the assembly session, speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan announced the formation of a committee to find the missing report . In a statement issued on Wednesday, Baldev Singh, whose son Ravinder Singh of village Litran near Nakodar was one of the four Sikh youths killed in police firing, said that the 1986 Nakodar sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, police firing, and the Justice Gurnam Singh Commission report — along with its missing parts — were not new issues, and both Cheema and Sandhwan actively raised these when they were in opposition. He said that AAP MLAs HS Phoolka and Kanwar Sandhu were the first to raise the issue strongly in the Punjab assembly, and later Cheema and Sandhwan also raised these issues during their time in opposition. "However, after being in power for over three and a half years, they are now using this issue cynically to distract from the real matter at hand. Since taking office, they have actively blocked efforts to bring the perpetrators of the Nakodar massacre to justice," said Baldev Singh. "We have sent seven letters to chief minister Bhagwant Mann, copies of which were also sent to finance minister Cheema and Speaker Sandhwan. Instead of addressing these concerns, they have shielded the perpetrators of the Nakodar police killings," he alleged. Baldev Singh also alleged that his request to Speaker Sandhwan on Sep 29, 2022, was later manipulated by the state's attorney's office to "mislead" the high court, resulting in the disposal of both of his petitions on Oct 7, 2023, even as these petitions were only possible because of AAP's initial support. "Despite these repeated efforts, we have yet to receive any tangible response or action on our grievances. This continued inaction has only compounded the pain and anguish of the victims' families, who have been waiting for almost forty years for justice and accountability. The AAP govt has not taken a single concrete step to deliver justice in the 1986 Nakodar police firing, the 2015 Bargari case, or the sacrilege cases of Guru Granth Sahib," he said. "If there is genuine commitment to justice, order a time-bound CBI inquiry into the 1986 Nakodar killings, the illegal cremation of four unarmed Sikh youths, and the disappearance of Part Two of the judicial report. File charges and arrest the police officials responsible for these atrocities. Without accountability, there is no closure. To this day, not a single perpetrator of Nakodar or Bargari has been brought to justice," he added.
