ijayawada: A spiritual wave swept across the city as thousands of devotees thronged the Sri Kanaka Durga temple on Indrakeeladri to offer the sacred Ashada Saare to the goddess.
With the sacred month drawing crowds from across both Telugu states, the temple saw an overwhelming rush on Sunday.
According to official reports, 57,419 devotees visited the temple by 3 pm alone. The ongoing Ashada Saare Samarpana, which began on June 26, witnessed a total of 4.15 lakh devotees in just 18 days, with 98% of them being women. The tradition, first launched in 2017 by then EO Adapala Suryakumari, continues to grow in devotion and scale each year.
Given the massive turnout on Sunday, EO VK Seena Nayak cancelled all darshan tickets and arranged free darshan for everyone. He also ensured that special measures were taken to protect devotees from the heat, including tents at both small and big Rajagopurams, water sprinkling on Ghat roads and Kanaka Durga Nagar, and distribution of biscuits and water bottles.
Crowd management was handled through CCTV monitoring and wireless communication, while assistant EOs, engineers, and superintendents worked round-the-clock to provide drinking water, toilet facilities, and maintain queue line infrastructure.

A highlight of the day was a grand Ashada Saare procession by the Vijayawada city police led by police commissioner Rajasekhar Babu, accompanied by his wife, senior officers, and over 30 police families. The procession, filled with devotional songs and traditional attire, deeply moved the onlookers.
The Devasthanam also ensured that free prasadam and annadanam were available throughout the day. With Bonalu festivities underway in Telangana, the number of pilgrims from that state has notably increased this year, adding further to the spiritual fervour at the temple.

I don't know how fast they were going, but they were a lot faster than us, I felt it was the safest thing to do to turn behind it," the pilot reportedly added, as the discussion was recorded. The pilot coolly measured the situation by saying, I apologise for such an event and that he was surprised the Air Force base radar missed it, when it should have always been functional. He thanked the crew for being so understanding and said,'It was not a pleasant day at work.' Live Events It remains unclear if the cockpit alarm was triggered as general response for possible collisions to the pilots, and if not, could be looked at as a surprising miss as an Air Force base with B-52 bombers is located near Minot, expectedly heightening security from Air Force or Air Traffic Controllers. "Recent reports of Air Force and commercial aircraft operating in the vicinity of Minot International Airport are something we are aware of. We're investigating the situation right now,' stated an Air Force spokeswoman to ABC News on Sunday night, July 20. "We can confirm that a B-52 aircraft assigned to Minot AFB conducted a flypast of the North Dakota State Fair Friday evening." According to SkyWest, the event is being looked into.

While Maha Shivratri, celebrated in Phalguna (February–March), is the most widely recognized, Sawan Shivratri is considered highly potent for spiritual awakening, inner peace, and divine connection. This is due to the spiritual energy associated with the Sawan month, which is devoted entirely to Lord Shiva. Key Rituals and Traditions of Sawan Shivratri 2025 1. Fasting (vrat) Live Events Devotees undertake a fast that begins at sunrise and ends the following morning after the proper Parana time. Some observe a nirjala vrat (without water or food), while others may consume only fruits or milk. 2. Jalabhishek (offering water to Shiva) A central ritual is Jalabhishek, where devotees pour Gangajal, milk, water, honey, and other sacred items on the Shiva Lingam, chanting mantras for blessings, forgiveness, and fulfillment of wishes. 3. Night Vigil (jagran) As 'Shivratri' means the night of Shiva, devotees remain awake all night, singing bhajans, meditating, and performing pujas in four segments known as Prahars. This vigil is a mark of unwavering devotion and spiritual alertness. 4. Mantra chanting Chanting Lord Shiva's mantras is a powerful practice on this night. Some of the most revered mantras include: Shiva Moola Mantra: 'Om Namah Shivaya' Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra: 'Om Tryambakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushti-Vardhanam, Urvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat' These mantras are believed to purify the mind, heal the body, and invoke Shiva's protection. 5. Temple visits Visiting prominent Shiva temples such as Kashi Vishwanath, Mahakaleshwar, or local shrines is an essential part of the celebration. Devotees offer Bael leaves, flowers, fruits, and incense to express reverence and gratitude. 6. Meditation and spiritual practice Many take time to engage in meditation (Dhyan) and inward reflection. This night is thought to hold the power for deep spiritual transformation and connection with one's higher self through devotion to Lord Shiva. Sawan Shivratri 2025 is not just a religious occasion—it's a moment for self-discipline, devotion, and divine communion. Observing this sacred night with sincerity can bring peace, healing, and spiritual growth to every seeker. Whether you fast, chant, meditate, or simply offer prayers, it is a night to embrace the infinite energy of Lord Shiva.
