New wheelchair sports hub opens in Carmarthenshire
The hub is based at St Clears Leisure Centre in Carmarthenshire and forms part of Actif's Focus Sport Programme.
It offers weekly inclusive sessions for people of all abilities to get involved in wheelchair sports, regardless of whether they use a wheelchair in daily life.
Councillor Hazel Evans, cabinet member for regeneration, leisure, culture and tourism, said: "We're proud to support this exciting new initiative that champions inclusion and community participation.
"The St Clears hub shows what's possible when we work together to create opportunities that truly welcome everyone, regardless of ability.
"It's not just about sport – it's about building confidence, friendships, and a stronger, more inclusive Carmarthenshire."
The sessions are delivered in partnership with Basketball Wales, Disability Sport Wales, and the Scarlets Community Foundation.
Participants can try wheelchair basketball, tennis, and rugby on a three-week rotation.
Sessions take place every Wednesday at 5pm, with all equipment—including sports wheelchairs—provided.
While the hub is designed primarily for wheelchair users, able-bodied participants are also encouraged to take part, making it a space where family and friends can enjoy the experience together.
Hywel Thomas, basketball focus sport lead for Actif, said: "This new hub is a fantastic step forward for inclusive sport in Carmarthenshire.
"We want to give everyone, regardless of ability or experience, the opportunity to try wheelchair sports, have fun, and build confidence.
"Thanks to our partners, we're able to provide a high-quality experience that's accessible to all."
The sessions aim to promote physical activity, inclusion, and community engagement in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Anyone interested in taking part can sign up via the Actif app or contact the Actif Communities team for more information.

Padel could come to Rotherham under new plans
The dedicated padel tennis centre could open in Rotherham under new plans submitted to the council. The application to transform a vacant industrial unit in Hellaby would see several indoor padel courts built alongside a small cafe and bar. The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has supported the proposal, describing the development as a "fantastic attribute for the Rotherham area". The LTA said there were currently no padel courts in Rotherham and praised the facility's potential to boost participation in what it calls the "fastest-growing sport in the world". Padel is a racket sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, played on a smaller enclosed court, and is designed to be more accessible and sociable than traditional tennis. The site, Unit 1, Sandbeck Way, is currently a vacant truck park and distribution warehouse which dates back to the 1970s, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service. According to the applicant the building is no longer viable as a warehouse due to modern demands and structural limitations and has stood vacant since 2023. The applicant said the centre would create up to 12 jobs, including roles for padel coaches, cleaning and maintenance staff, and a full-time site manager. Parking provision would be expanded from the existing 14 spaces to a minimum of 37, with an additional 14 overspill spaces available at the nearby Trinity House unit. Eight parking bays would be equipped with electric vehicle charging points. It would operate from 7am to 10pm on weekdays and 8am to 9pm at weekends. The application is currently under consideration by Rotherham Council's planning department. How to watch WNBA MVP favorite Napheesa Collier and the Lynx take on A'ja Wilson's Aces
Just one week ago, the Minnesota Lynx stomped the Las Vegas Aces by 31 points thanks to an efficient 48 combined points from Napheesa Collier and Courtney Williams. In the 109-78 victory on July 25, the Lynx (23-5) held the Aces to 38 percent shooting and connected on nearly 55 percent of their own attempts. Advertisement Minnesota, which owns the best record in the WNBA, faces Las Vegas (14-13) looking to duplicate its performance. The teams square off in Las Vegas' Michelob Ultra Arena for a nationally televised matchup on ABC. Live coverage is also available on ESPN+. Saturday's matchup is one of the 13 regular-season WNBA games on ABC, a league high since its inception. The league is as popular as it's ever been, setting a variety of viewership and attendance records in the past year. If you like scorers, two of the best in the WNBA will take the floor: Collier (23.8 points per game) and A'ja Wilson (22.1 ppg). Collier is also the clear favorite to win WNBA MVP at BetMGM. Since the loss to the Lynx, the Aces have won two straight games. Wilson shined her last time out in Los Angeles against the Sparks, scoring 34 points on nearly 70 percent shooting from the floor. Minnesota has a comfortable lead ahead of defending champion New York Liberty (17-10) for the best overall record. Despite that, the Lynx head into the weekend with the same odds as the Liberty to win this year's title. Las Vegas is tied with the Golden State Valkyries for the seventh-best record in the WNBA, currently holding on to one of the eight playoff spots. But the Aces look to continue rising in the standings over the last two months of the regular season.
