How social media is transforming wedding days

Yahoo06-06-2025
A wedding content creator said described how more couples are embracing seeing their big day through the candid lens of a mobile phone.
Geared with just an iPhone, Beth Denman, 25, and her team take thousands of photos and videos during weddings, which are edited into short form content for social media.
She started Social Scenes from her home in Attleborough, Norfolk, two years ago and has now grown it into a team of five.
"It's very candid and in the moment... it's the moments that are often missed by the bride and groom," Ms Denman said.
She first discovered wedding content creation in 2023, on social media posts from Australia.
Ms Denman estimated that, at the time, there were just three other wedding creators in Norfolk.
"I thought that I could totally do this. I noticed that no-one was really doing it in Norfolk," she said.
She estimates there are now about 20 people providing a similar service across the county.
The wedding planning website, Hitched, has reported a 586% rise in searches for wedding content creators in 2025.
Ms Denman said she plays the role of the "uninvited but invited guest".
"We blend in with the shadows and we gravitate around the wedding to capture different parts," she added.
Wedding creators such as Ms Denman work alongside traditional photographers and videographers to capture the big day.
Although they may seem similar, Ms Denman said wedding creators worked candidly, sometimes providing content for couples within 24 hours.
"I think if people see it as the death of the photographer or videographer, they're getting the complete wrong conception," she added.
"Content creators aren't a replacement for anybody... we are an addition."
Wedding photographer Ellie Gillard agrees that the services they provide differ.
Ms Gillard has been a wedding photographer in Norfolk and London for 14 years, and has photographed more than 400 weddings.
"Content creators serve a different purpose in the grand scheme of things," she said.
"It's great for people who are very present on social media - the content that they give you are almost instant.
"But people have had photographers at their wedding since photography began, and it fits that tradition."
She has previously worked with content creators and believes their job is not as simple as some may think.
"The growth of content creators means that some people think it's fun, that they can turn up and just point their phones at things," she said.
"But there is more to it than that... it's really important that you blend into the day seamlessly."

Megan Kerrigan, jilted wife of Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, had happy family photos with him on Facebook up until he was exposed having alleged affair

The wife of the tech honcho exposed at a Coldplay concert as an apparent cheater had a Facebook page featuring happy photos of herself posing with her smiling husband and sons — before she deleted the entire social media account Thursday. Megan Kerrigan, wife of Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, posted the joyful shots — including ones of the family grinning on a hiking trip and at a graduation — before her spouse was outed at the concert cuddling with the company's head of HR. The photos show the Byron family with arms around each other, though it wasn't immediately clear when the images were posted. In the hiking photos, the family is posed in front of a creek with the married couple looking cozy and beaming, flanked by two teens who appear to be their grown sons. Kerrigan, who reportedly removed her married name from her Facebook page Thursday, had used the family hiking shot as her cover photo up until she deleted the account. Solve the daily Crossword

Former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard discusses last six months while at ESPYs

To say that it's been a memorable and eventful last six months for former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard would be an understatement. Not only did he realize a couple of childhood dreams by winning a College Football Playoff national championship and by being selected in the NFL draft, but he also appeared on the red carpet at the ESPYs because the Buckeyes were nominated for "Team of the Year." And while OSU didn't win that award, he still got to rub elbows with American sports' royalty and experience all that comes from being a part of the festivities. One other thing Howard has been able to do is learn from future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers after he was signed to lead the Steelers this coming year. Howard -- all decked out in his best -- took some time while at the ESPYs to talk about those things and more while on the red carpet ahead of sitting in the audience in person to watch the annual sports awards show. As he always is, Howard was gracious and engaging in talking about a six-month whirlwind that will undoubtedly be unlike any other in his life. He reflected on his transfer to Ohio State, making a run to the national championship, and what it means to be mentored by Rodgers. You can catch all of his comments below, thanks to the ESPN College Football "X" account. It's unlikely that Howard will get much time under center in Pittsburgh this season, but as Rodgers moves on, if he can learn and make the most of the opportunity he has, maybe we can see him doing some of the same things he did for Ohio State for the Steelers in the near future. I wouldn't bet against him at this point. Contact/Follow us @BuckeyesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Ohio State news, notes and opinion. Watch Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman and walk-on Isaiah Dunn funny segment on SportsCenter

With Notre Dame football making its annual New York media trip, head coach Marcus Freeman a more than a few Irish players are making their rounds on various shows. One of those was ESPN's SportsCenter, and while Freeman thought that he'd just be speaking with Kevin Negandhi, that wasn't the case. Walk-on cornerback Isaiah Dunn was on the set as well, and surprised his head coach while on a video call for the interview. The senior from California wasn't one of the players accompanying Freeman to New York, but instead was in Bristol, Connecticut and had quite the question for this head coach. Dunn asked who, on a random Tuesday practice, would come up with a big interception, and his coach picked the 'host' to make the play. It's another reason why players really love playing for Freeman, he always has their backs along with a generally great sense of humor. The relationships that he's forged with former, current and future Irish players has been impressive, and one of the big reasons why Notre Dame is becoming one of the top teams to play for.
