Parents outraged by trans film for kids at NYC's Museum of Natural History

New York Post10-05-2025
The Museum of Natural History shocked even liberal Upper West Side parents last week by showcasing an animated film featuring a drag-performing fox and a trans kid with an identity crisis – alongside an exhibit 'about sea animals.'
The eight-minute stop-motion animation short titled 'Dragfox' – featuring a 'charismatic' fox in drag voiced by Sir Ian McKellen — played last weekend on a loop inside the august Milstein Hall in the shadow of the famed 94-foot long blue whale.
In one scene 11-year-old Sam twirls around with his sister's pink dress, eventually wearing it. The flamboyant fox, 'Ginger Snap,' snatches it and breaks into a drag musical number as the duo embark on a 'magical journey' in the attic.

'What on Earth is this doing playing in the Natural History Museum? No connection whatsoever to space, the ocean, anything,' blasted one stunned museum-member mom in an online parents group.
'There's a time and place for drag queens but the AMNH isn't it,' added the mom about the museum, which received at least $17 million in government funding in 2024, according to its financial disclosures.
The mom was galled that the subject matter 'was intentionally placed in front of us, in cartoon format, with no posted forewarning, in an exhibit about sea animals.'

The 'family friendly' series, part of the annual Margaret Mead Film Festival, was innocuously called 'Our Friends, The Animals' and described a collection of five 'imaginative' shorts that explore 'the deep and often mysterious connections between humans and animals' told through 'myth, magic and quiet moments of discovery.'
De-transitioner Oli London rejected the film's sentiment that transitioning magically brings happiness.
'Children should not be exposed to gender ideology in any format,' said London, who's 35 and detransitioned two years after beginning the grueling process.

3 Jacqueline Toboroff called the film 'predatory indoctrination.'

He railed against the animated film aimed at 'targeting' youngsters by including a character with a 'cute, friendly-looking fox . . . encouraging them to become confused with their gender identity and become trans. Children should be off-limits from radical gender ideology.'
Parents accused the museum of straying from its mission to 'discover, interpret, and disseminate —through scientific research and education — knowledge about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe.'
Instead of understanding science, they're 'ignoring' it by 'presenting something that's ideological as scientific fact,' said Natalya Murakhaver, an UWS mom-of-two and documentary filmmaker, who blasted the screening as 'predatory behavior for young, impressionable children.

'I think we have activists running the museum who are trying to portray their idea of reality as fact, when it's actually ideological,' she added.
But 'Dragfox' director, Lisa Ott, exulted during a 2024 BAFTA award acceptance speech that the short 'celebrates drag queens and trans joy.' The singular goal of the film was to 'have one little queer kid or trans child out there feel a little bit less alone.'
The festival is a way to 'step beyond your comfort zone to listen, feel, and see yourself reflected in the stories presented on screen,' insisted Jacqueline Handy, the AMNH Director of Public Programs.
It's more insidious than that, said downtown mom of two, Jacqueline Toboroff. Showing a loaded film aimed at kids is 'predatory indoctrination' meant to sow chaos, she said.
3 Parents were surprised the show was showing, on a loop, in an exhibit about sea life.
Robert Miller
'It's an attempt to dislodge American traditions,' said the author of 'Supermoms Activated,' claiming that the focus on kid-rich environments – 'libraries, schools and museums' – is an 'intentional effort to groom these kids.
'It's meant to sexually exploit impressionable minds and to mainstream sexual deviance.'

New York is among the states with the most gender-affirming care, with 1,154 minors in the state who were sex change patients between 2019 and 2023.
There's social contagion being artificially created and 'harming a new generation of kids that can't escape this ideology,' according to Maud Maron, a parents-rights activist in NYC running on the Rrepublican ticket for Manhattan district attorney against Alvin Bragg.
She added, 'You just don't have a right to push it down New Yorkers' throats in taxpayer-funded institutions.'

The museum said the festival is funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the 'Office of the Governor,' but Gov. Kathy Hochul's spokesperson insisted the state stopped directly funding the film festival in 2021. 'The state did not allocate funding for this film festival and was not involved in the curation or selection process,' the spokesperson insisted.
The arts council budgeted $25,000 in capital grants for the museum this year and that money may have been funneled towards this year's festival, said the rep. AMNH did not respond to repeated requests for comment.

‘Bachelor in Paradise's Sam McKinney and Alli Jo Hinkes Are Dating

It's no secret that, thus far, Bachelor in Paradise season 10 has been kind of a letdown. Despite the addition of the Goldens, the beach has been plagued by awkward drama (*ahem* Justin Glaze), but there hasn't really been a stand-out couple to root for—until now. Bachelor in Paradise's Sam McKinney and Alli Jo Hinkes are officially dating, making them one of the first official couples to come out of BiP season 10. Kinda. Here's the thing: Despite both appearing on Bachelor in Paradise this summer, Sam and Alli Jo didn't get together on the show. In fact, they didn't even overlap in Paradise at all. Sam arrived in Costa Rica on Day 1 of BiP season 10 only to be sent right back home at the first rose ceremony. Alli Jo's journey in Paradise was equally short—she arrived Week 2 and went home that very same week. They both left BiP single, but obviously, they didn't stay that way for long! Sam and Alli Jo publicly announced their romance on Instagram Tuesday, July 29, in a joint post. 'Sometimes... You gotta do it your damn self,' Sam captioned the carousel of photos, which showed the couple engaging in some pretty serious PDA. 'Be a force and #StayRelentless.' Alli Jo got even more pointed, commenting, 'Didn't need a beach to find my paradise ❤️ main thing energy baby!' It's unclear when, exactly, this romance began. Were they in a hotel together prior to (or after) filming? Was this just another case of the insulated Bachelor Nation social scene working its magic? We don't know yet, but whatever happened, it looks like they have their fellow Bachelor alums' support. 'It happened?!?!?!' BiP host Jesse Palmer commented on the post, followed by three heart eye emojis. Fellow BiP season 10 alum Kathy Swarts then joked, 'If you want something done the right way, do it yourself 😂😍.' Bachelor alum Susie Evans, who had a short (but dramatic) run on BiP herself this season, added, 'Crying in the club over here 🫶 love this for y'all.' And Juliana Pasquarosa, who appeared on Grant Ellis' Bachelor season alongside Alli Jo, also weighed in. 'The main thing is officially the main thing bb,' she wrote. Happy for you two!

Rebecca Romijn on filming 'Avengers' and 'Star Trek' simultaneously: 'It's surreal and overwhelming'

The actress briefly addressed spending "a lot of time on the airplane" recently. Rebecca Romijn received a lot of love from the geek community gathered at Comic-Con on Saturday, not just for her role on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but also Avengers: Doomsday. The actress reprises her past X-Men role as the shapeshifting mutant Mystique in the Marvel Cinematic Universe event film, which set up shop in the U.K. She also recently wrapped filming season 4 of Strange New Worlds in Toronto and will return to film season 5. During the Hall H Star Trek Universe panel over the weekend, moderator and Trek alum Robert Picardo asked Romijn about filming both projects simultaneously. "It's surreal and overwhelming," she said from the stage, "and I'm very grateful to this production for working it out with the other production that I was able to participate in both. It's been very exciting — and a lot of time on the airplane." Entertainment Weekly's Samantha Highfill, who's hosting EW's Comic-Con livestream, asked if Romijn gets a zip-up Mystique costume this time around, as opposed to the prosthetics and makeup effects painted on her the first go around. "I cannot confirm or deny one single thing," Romijn replies. She does, however, comment, "It's been a very exciting summer."Romijn reunites with some of her past X-Men movie costars in Avengers: Doomsday, including Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier/Professor X), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto), Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler), James Marsden (Scott Summers/Cyclops), and Kelsey Grammer (Beast/Hank McCoy). The film involves actor Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU but playing supervillain Doctor Victor Von Doom. After Deadpool & Wolverine, this will be the most overt inclusion of the X-Men characters into the MCU to date. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also made known plans to eventually recast the roles of the X-Men in the MCU after the multiverse-crossing events of the next Avengers movies. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for theaters on Dec. 18, 2026. Check out more of . Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

This Unsung Supernatural TV Show Has Everything a Horror Fan Could Want

When it comes to genre television, there haven't been many TV shows over the past decade that have kept me hooked. I watch TV for a living, so color me jaded. When I think of big creative swings in the television realm, shows like Twin Peaks, Severance and The Boys immediately come to mind. That third title I just mentioned is the only one in that trio that is an adaptation -- taking inspiration from the ultraviolent superhero comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Before The Boys, two titles inspired by Ennis's comic book work hit the small screen: the short-lived Constantine and the gloriously bonkers Preacher, which is now streaming on Netflix (until Aug. 18) and AMC Plus. AMC took a crazy big swing with Preacher, tapping series creator Sam Catlin (Breaking Bad) to showrun the project with the help of producing duo Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen. In May of 2016, the first of the show's four seasons premiered on the small screen and proceeded to kick the TV world right upside the face -- but, like, in the best way. Read more: Philo's Subscription Price Will Increase, but Include AMC Plus Ruth Negga, Dominic Cooper and Joseph Gilgun star in Preacher. AMC Network Preacher follows Jesse Custer (played by Dominic Cooper), a down-on-his-luck Texas priest with a sinister past. He is given a new purpose when a supernatural force known as Genesis inhabits his body, granting him the Word of God -- a superpower that, when summoned, makes anyone follow his command. Fueled by an enduring crisis of faith and his newfound gift, Jesse finds himself on a mission to find God, who just up and left heaven, and bring him to justice. He can't do it alone, though. Joining him on this bizarre road trip adventure is Tulip O'Hare (Ruth Negga), his formidable ex-girlfriend, and a wise-cracking, chain-smoking, hard-drinking vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun). Add in a collection of untrustworthy angels, pesky demons, that aforementioned deadbeat God and a group of murderous zealots, and you've got yourself one delightfully unhinged TV show. Like The Boys, Preacher isn't directly categorized as a horror series. But it has earned its gruesome flowers. It pivots from one genre to another regularly -- swiftly moving from bloody vampire kill sequence to comedic road trip banter to some heavy apocalyptic, theological drama. Above all else, it's the wonderful dynamic between the core trio that keeps things interesting. Sure, you can revel in the cool action sequences and the southern noir flavor of the story world and its characters, but if the emotional connection between the leads is lacking, the show will fail. Thankfully, that's not the case here. Joseph Gilgun as the vampire Cassidy in Preacher. AMC Network The chemistry between Cooper and Negga is white hot and pretty much jumps off the screen. Gilgun's punk rock take on Cassidy is my favorite thing about the show -- even if the TV version of him was watered down from his brash and brutal (too-violent-for-basic-cable) comic book roots. In a content landscape full of recycled tropes and shows that were canceled too soon, Preacher is a beautiful and unique snowflake. The more I think about it, the more I am baffled that the show was even greenlit in the first place -- and I don't mean that in a bad way. If you've read Ennis's comic book and enjoyed Steve Dillon's visual stylings, you probably had the same thought I had when this show was announced: How? The narrative structure of the books, along with the twisted story arcs -- there's a face-removing serial killer, an immortal bounty hunter who kills angels and so much more -- really made me feel like this was something no one could adapt. Graham McTavish in Preacher, now streaming on Netflix and AMC Plus. AMC Network The same was said at one point or another about Game of Thrones and Watchmen. So, egg on my face, I guess. Things move quickly when it comes to TV shows. They get greenlit only to be canceled in the blink of an eye. The revolving door of what's new, what's popular and what just left the party can be a bit discombobulating. It's this fast-paced entertainment realm that makes me think gems like Preacher can be easily overlooked or forgotten. Preacher exists in a weird pocket of time for television -- The Walking Dead franchise had exploded when it premiered, and the streaming wars had yet to fully kick in. It was before the MCU made its way to Disney Plus, with shows like FX's Legion experimenting with unique visuals and story sequences unlike anything found on basic cable. It was a show that tinkered with what was possible, storytelling-wise, while also giving us some kick-ass insanity to tune into each week. It never really took off; at least not the way The Boys did. And that's a shame because this show was a game-changer. With each season, the story world became larger and more fantastical. Every character chewed the scenery down to the bone, and that was just a part of its bonkers charm. Probably the best thing about the show is that Preacher was allowed to end on its own terms. Yes, that's right, every storyline finds its conclusion, which tends to be a rare thing with TV shows these days. I could keep raving about the series, but I think I've already said too much. Even if I kept writing, I'm not sure if I would be able to substantially encapsulate the brilliant madness of the show. In fact, if I could channel Jesse's Word of God power, I'd probably just wipe this all from your memory. I'd command you to forget everything I just wrote, except the part where I call Preacher, "gloriously bonkers," and tell you to go watch it all right now.
