The musician shared the anecdote during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in the US.
He told the chatshow king: 'I did a little show In Nashville last week and I got to meet Dolly.
'It was great, she was lovely. She really struggled to understand what I was saying as most people in America do.
'But she was very polite and it was a bit of a dream come true.
'That's like meeting the Queen or something. Better than meeting the Queen actually, yeah I said it.'
It comes after the singer, from Whitburn, West Lothian, described his emotional return to Glastonbury as the best day of his life.
Capaldi performed a surprise set on the Pyramid stage last month, two years after being unable to finish his set on the same stage when he struggled to manage the symptoms of his Tourette syndrome.
Following the 2023 performance, he called off his world tour to address his mental and physical health - a move he described as 'the most difficult decision of my life'.
He said: 'It was terrifying. In the lead-up to it I was like 'This is horrific, I made a terrible decision'.
'And then I went out and we did it and it was really beautiful and lovely and it went exactly how I hoped.
Lewis Capaldi breaks silence on emotional Glastonbury return after taking a break from music
'It was probably the best day of my life.
'I assume when I have a child I might be like 'Well maybe Glastonbury was still better'.'
Describing his previous experience at Glastonbury in 2023, Capaldi said: 'The first time did not go well. I had a mental breakdown on stage.
'I have Tourette's so I used to tic quite a lot. I still do tic but I used to do this thing with my shoulder and it became really uncontrollable and I had a panic attack on stage at Glastonbury and I couldn't finish the song.

'It had happened a couple of times before at shows but because this one was so publicised and there were so many eyes on it it really made me think 'Oh God I really need to go and get myself sorted, I can't really keep doing this to myself'.'
On the US chat show Capaldi performed his new track Survive, which has gone to number one on the singles chart in the UK.
He showed off his trademark sense of humour during his appearance by telling the audience the song was 'under-performing' in the US and urging them to buy it.
Capaldi recently announced a partnership with BetterHelp which will see him give fans 734,000 hours of free therapy - 1,000 for each of the days he couldn't perform due to poor mental health.
He said therapy was 'a massive part of the reason that I'm able to be a musician again'.

Robbie Williams shares devastating update on parents' health battle in emotional post
Robbie posted an open message updating everyone on his family's complicated health struggles. Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ROBBIE Williams has shared a heartbreaking update on his family's health battles – with his mum, dad and mother-in-law all currently battling illnesses. As the Something Beautiful icon, 51, continues his Britpop stadium tour, he has also been checking in and helping look after the family alongside wife, Ayda Field, 46. On top of it all, Ayda's mother, Gwen, is battling cervical cancer, Lupus and Parkinson's at the same time. In a new post on Instagram, Robbie posted a long Q+A about himself and his family's situation - noting there were parts of the tour that he loved – crediting his band and support act Lottery Winners for bringing 'energy' he enjoys, as well as some of his more notable concerts so far. But then he added that he's been fighting off a bug across the past two weeks, and that life at home is incredibly tough. 'Things at home with my parents? VERY precarious right now,' he then wrote. 'It's real world stuff that deeply affects me and my wife. And if my wife is affected, you can bet I am. So the maths are: Virus + ill parents + stadium tour.' 'Every single moment of every single day is in preparation for those 2+ hours on stage. Outside of that? I have nothing',' he said. 'There is nothing to offer. I don't mind stating to those around me, I need protecting. And in return I protect them'. Despite this, he added a promise that he would be 'on top of his game' during the shows, though noted: 'Outside of that - I have nothing to offer or give, for the time being.' His brutally honest post comes after Robbie paid tribute to his family on stage during his tour, admitting on stage that his mum no longer knows who he is and he 'isn't ready for it'. Robbie Williams reveals the dark side of himself in the biopic Better Man out in January He told the crowd: 'My mother has dementia and she doesn't know who I am anymore. She doesn't know where she is anymore. My dad has Parkinson's and he can't leave the house. 'He used to sing with me every night on stage, he would come out, steal the show and be charming and then wander backstage for a glass of red wine. Now he can't leave the house. 'My mother-in-law, who I absolutely worship and adore, has three illnesses. She's for lupus, Parkinson's and cancer. She is the most courageous lady and she is fighting, fighting, fighting.' He added: "It's a strange place to be, this place we find ourselves, 51 years old, it's very strange to be the grown up. "I'm not ready for it." 7 Robbie is extremely close with his mum Credit: Not known, clear with picture desk 7 Robbie's father inspired his love of music

Olympic swimmer Cate Campbell announces surprise engagement to partner Adam Kerr and shows off her massive diamond ring
Cate Campbell has announced her engagement. The Olympic swimmer and her long-term partner Adam Kerr shared the happy news in an Instagram post on Sunday. The 33-year-old shared a series of images of the romantic sunrise proposal, while also showing off her classic diamond sparkler. 'A complete and wonderful surprise,' Cate wrote in her caption alongside the carousel of photographs. 'Last Saturday while watching the sun rise at our new local beach, Adam turned and said: "Cate, I have a question for you." I thought maybe he was going to ask what kind of plants to put in our gardens, what kind of dog we should get, or what we should make for dinner. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'Instead, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said "yes"…(and cried a lot). 'Simply the perfect way to start the next chapter of our lives.' Less than a year ago, Cate insisted there was no engagement on the horizon. The athlete told radio host Ben Fordham on 2GB's Ben Fordham Live! that her sister's Bronte Campbell's betrothal to Benfield Lainchbury at the time had made it even less likely that Adam would pop the question. 'No definitely not, my partner Adam is like, "The pressure is off," because he can't steal Bronte and Benfield's thunder for a little bit,' she said. Cate had some complaints about how her sister's engagement occurred. 'He didn't get down on one knee, which I was a little bit mad about, but I'm glad he popped the question,' she explained. Cate and Adam have been together, on and off, for six years, and the swimmer says that her partner had no idea of her fame when they met. 'He didn't know who I was and he maintains he never Googled me – he wasn't star struck!' she told the Sydney Morning Herald back in 2023. The two split briefly when Cate moved to Sydney to pursue her swimming career, with Cate calling the breakup her 'biggest heartbreak.' When she returned to Brisbane, the couple reconciled. 'We reconnected when I moved back to Brisbane and have been together ever since. He knows what sport means to me,' she said. Cate explained that Adam is an immense support to her when she is feeling down or exhausted. 'When you're feeling tired, depleted or defeated, it's okay to lean on someone and ask for them to help replenish your reserves,' she told Nine. 'Sometimes I have to lean on him and then sometimes he has to lean on me. It's really lovely to be that reserve of strength for someone else.' Cate told the Sydney Morning Herald last year that she isn't planning on starting a family any time soon. 'I need to figure who I am outside of the pool before I go into something as time- and identity-consuming as parenthood,' she said.
