Iowa Cubs Principal Park bullpens to be moved off playing field in new $1.3 million renovation
The changes include moving the home and visitor bullpens off the right and left field line and into new areas that will be built into the existing seating bowl. The changes adhere to the standard practice in new baseball stadiums in relocating the bullpens off of the playing field for safety reasons. The only issue was finding the space, and it ended up costing some seats.

'Now, removing the bullpens off of the field, in order to do that we had to take seats out and push the bullpens into the grandstand, we're going to eliminate about 700 seats. Any [ballpark] that is younger than us certainly has it pretty much in place, mostly in the outfield, we just don't have the luxury of doing that, so everything will have to be within the confines of the ballpark,' said Sam Bernabe, President and General Manager of the Iowa Cubs.
Bernabe said despite the seats lost, there are still plenty of seats for fans, and the change even opens up bullpen-style premium seating for fan interaction.
Bernabe says the plan is to have construction be done during the off season, and have the new bullpens ready to go for the start of the 2026 season.

Associated Press MIAMI (AP) — The New York Yankees released veteran right-hander Marcus Stroman on Friday, a day after making a flurry of moves at baseball's trade deadline. The Yankees acquired All-Star relievers David Bednar and Camilo Doval, as well as utilityman Jose Caballero in separate trades Thursday. New York also optioned right-handers Ian Hamilton and Yerry de los Santos to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room on the 26-man roster. The Yankees' new pieces had less-than-ideal debuts in Friday's 13-12 loss at Miami, where New York blew multiple big leads. Bednar allowed four hits and two earned runs — including a home run — in 1 2/3 innings. Doval took the loss after blowing a save opportunity with the Yankees leading in the ninth. Marlins All-Star Kyle Stowers hit a grand slam off reliever Jake Bird, who was added from Colorado. And Caballero had a costly error in right field in the ninth that allowed the Marlins to score two runs and tie the game. 'It's part of being a reliever,' Bednar said. 'Sometimes stuff like that happens. It's all about how you respond and how you're able to bounce back.' Doval added that he thought he executed his pitches well. 'Things did not come out like I wanted,' he said in Spanish. "That is something you can't control.' Stroman, who is in his 11th season in the majors, was cut ahead of the opener of a three-game series against the Marlins and is owed about $5.7 million. 'Obviously, that was tough today,' Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before the game. 'The perception around Stro for us, if you got to be around him the last couple of years, he's an awesome competitor.' Stroman signed a two-year deal worth $37 million with New York before the start of last season and is owed $5,709,677 of his $18 million salary this year. Any team can sign him for a prorated share of the $760,000 minimum. His contract included an $18 million conditional player option for 2026 that could have been exercised if he pitched 140 or more innings in 2025. Stroman pitched only 39 innings so far this season — he missed 2 1/2 months with left knee inflammation. Boone said Stroman took the news of his release like 'a pro.' 'Had a good interaction with him," Boone said. "I feel he'll be a guy I'll stay in touch with for the rest of our lives. Appreciative of him.' CLEVELAND (AP) — Kyle Manzardo singled home Brayan Rocchio with one out in the 10th inning for his second walk-off hit of the season, giving the Cleveland Guardians a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Friday night. The Guardians loaded the bases against Kody Funderburk (1-1) on a single by Steven Kwan and an intentional walk to José Ramírez. Manzardo brought in automatic runner Rocchio with a liner to left field. Cade Smith (3-4) pitched the final two innings as Cleveland improved to 9-5 since the All-Star break. Ramírez drove in Kwan in the first inning, then stole second base to become the 17th player with 275 steals and 275 home runs in a career. He is the first primary third baseman to reach the milestone and the second switch hitter, joining Carlos Beltrán. TORONTO (AP) — Mike Yastrzemski homered in his first at-bat with Kansas City, Michael Wacha limited Toronto to a run in eight innings in his longest outing of the season and the Royals beat the Blue Jays 9-3 on Friday night. Acquired from San Francisco just before the trade deadline Thursday, Yastrzemski had a two-run shot off Kevin Gausman (7-8) in the second inning to make it 2-1. Wacha (5-9) allowed three hits and stuck out five, helping the Royals improve to .500 for the first time since June 20. He gave up one run for the fourth consecutive start. Bobby Witt Jr., Salvador Perez and Adam Frazier also homered for Kansas City. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two-out homer in the first inning to give Toronto a 1-0 lead.
