Malaysia approves 48 renewable energy projects worth RM1.87 billion
These projects, covering biogas, biomass, and small hydropower, will contribute 181.25 megawatts (MW) to Malaysia's energy grid, with operations starting as early as 2028.
PETRA stated that the initiative aligns with Malaysia's goal to increase renewable energy's share in the national electricity supply to 70% by 2050.
'The diversification of RE sources will enhance grid reliability and ensure consistent electricity supply,' the ministry said.
The government had opened applications for 190MW of FiT quotas earlier this year, receiving 59 submissions.
Of these, 48 met technical and financial requirements, including 20 biogas projects (30.93MW), eight biomass projects (53.50MW), and 20 small hydropower projects (96.82MW).
PETRA emphasised that the FiT mechanism will drive sustainable growth in Malaysia's RE sector, supporting the Malaysia MADANI vision of innovation and shared prosperity.

PPR Rembau Completed After Five Years, Now Ready For Occupancy
REMBAU, July 25 (Bernama) – The People's Housing Programme (PPR) in Rembau, built at a cost of RM91.2 million, has been fully completed and is now ready for occupancy after five years of construction. Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu said the PPR Rembau, which began construction on March 4, 2020, was completed and handed over to the National Housing Department on Feb 27 this year. She said 166 eligible applicants have passed the screening process and received offer letters to occupy units in the first phase of the PPR Rembau project. 'This is a symbol of successful strategic collaboration between the Federal and State Governments in providing comfortable and quality housing. It reflects the spirit of Malaysia MADANI, where care for the people's needs is our top priority,' she said at the Offer Letter Handover Ceremony and Open Day for PPR Rembau at Mukim Chembong here today. Also present was Negeri Sembilan Senior State Executive Councillor Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias. Aiman Athirah added that all recipients were offered the Rent-to-Own (RTO) scheme, which provides rental for a minimum period of five years and up to a maximum of 20 years. Meanwhile, Jalaluddin said a total of 1,422 PPR units have been completed or are under construction in Negeri Sembilan, including the PPR Jempol project in Kampung Dato' Johan, which is currently in the pre-construction phase and will provide 100 homes for local residents. One of the recipients, Normasita Md Diah, 38, a mother of three, expressed gratitude and joy upon learning she was selected for the first phase, saying owning her own home had been a long-held dream. Another recipient, H. Uphaindro, 36, a general worker at a local school, also thanked the government for providing PPR facilities that help B40 households own their own homes.

Renewable Energy Fund charge lifted for green initiatives
PUTRAJAYA: The government will exempt the 1.6% Renewable Energy Fund charge on electricity tariffs under renewable energy programmes effective Aug 1. This was disclosed by the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry yesterday. The exemption covers the Green Electricity Tariff initiative, Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme and Community Renewable Energy Aggregation Mechanism. The ministry said the measure aligned with the government's goal to accelerate the development and integration of renewable energy into the national electricity supply. 'With this exemption and related enhancements, the ministry hopes to incentivise users, particularly corporations and industries, to continue supporting the national energy transition agenda towards achieving a 70% renewable energy mix in electricity supply by 2050,' the ministry said yesterday, Bernama reported. The move was also expected to spur more positive growth in the renewable energy industry. The ministry said the 1.6% charge on electricity tariffs, introduced in 2011, was to fund the growth of renewable energy through the Feed-in Tariff (FiT) mechanism implemented by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority. 'Since the introduction of the FiT mechanism, the distributed renewable energy capacity in the national power supply system, particularly from solar sources, has grown significantly, from just 5 megawatts (MW) in 2011 to 5,100 MW,' the ministry said. FiT also boosted electricity generation from biogas, biomass and small hydropower sources, which now collectively contribute 855 MW to the national supply. The ministry said following the implementation of the new electricity tariff structure on July 1, the government reviewed existing renewable energy programmes and resolved to further promote renewable energy among electricity users.
