Pankaj Tripathi Says ‘Too Costly Tickets' Keep Audiences Away From Theatres
Pankaj Tripathi is enjoying fans' positive response to his performance in the recently released romantic drama, Metro…In Dino. Directed by Anurag Basu, the film, despite good word of mouth failed to gather big numbers at the box office — a similar case with the majority of Bollywood films in recent times. But what could be the reason behind the low footfall of audiences at the theatres? Well, the actor believes it's the 'Expensive ticket pricing.'
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Pankaj said, 'Ticket pricing ek mudda hai aur uski bhi ek bhumika hai (in poor collections). If a family has to go to the theatre today, it's a very costly affair. Ticket prices and the food served there are so expensive."
The actor went on to say that the 'business game' is beyond his understanding, as he is unfamiliar with the commercial aspects of cinema. 'I do feel that movie tickets are too costly and that's surely a barrier." As the actor continued to express his ideas, he explained why the high ticket costs are to blame.
'On Tuesdays or National Cinema Day, when rates are reduced, cinema hall occupancy increases. So, if we offer affordable tickets, footfall will undoubtedly grow. It's challenging for a family to spend Rs 2,000 and give five hours (including travel time)," he continued.
Amid the debate over high ticket prices at the theatres, the Karnataka government has reinstated a Rs 200 ticket price limit for regional films in theatres, including multiplexes. The decision followed Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's announcement in his budget speech. It is projected to benefit both film fans and the regional film industry, fostering a more vibrant and inclusive cinematic experience in the state.
Coming back to Pankaj, his recent release, Metro…In Dino also featured an ensemble cast including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Konkon Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Neena Gupta and Anupam Kher.
Up next, he will be seen in the comedy drama film, Parivarik ManuRanjan, along with Aditi Rao Hydari. The official release date of the film is yet to be announced. He also has Mirzapur: The Film with Ali Fazal and Divyenddu Sharma in his kitty.

Saiyaara leaps to 62nd spot in all-time biggest Hindi hits, outpaces Shah Rukh Khan's Dilwale, Salman Khan's Bodyguard and Prabhas's Salaar:Part 1- Ceasefire
Mohit Suri's directorial venture, Saiyaara, starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has become a box office sensation. The romantic drama has swiftly climbed to 62nd position among Hindi cinema's biggest hits, amassing Rs 153.25 crore in just six days. Saiyaara has surpassed major films like Dilwale, Bodyguard, and Salaar, driven by strong word-of-mouth and consistent weekday collections. In a stunning box office run, Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri and featuring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda , has surged from the 84th to the 62nd position on the list of the biggest Hindi hits of Indian cinema within just 24 hours. With its 6-day total now standing at an impressive Rs 153.25 crore, the romantic drama has officially leapfrogged major Bollywood hits including Shah Rukh Khan 's Dilwale (Rs 148.42 Cr), Salman Khan 's Bodyguard (Rs 148.52 Cr), and even the high-profile Salaar: Cease Fire – Part 1 (Rs 152.65 Cr). This unexpected climb reflects not just a growing word-of-mouth wave, but also the sharp rise in weekday collections that signal strong audience retention. After a thunderous Rs 21.5 crore opening on Friday, the film jumped to Rs 26 crore on Saturday, followed by a stellar Rs 35.75 crore on Sunday. While Monday usually sees a drop, Saiyaara held well with Rs 24 crore, and then bounced back on Tuesday to Rs 25 crore, showing a rare 4.17% jump mid-week. Wednesday's early estimate of Rs 21 crore sealed its entry into the Rs 150 crore club, and more crucially, into the elite list of top 65 Hindi films of all time. What's remarkable is how Saiyaara has managed to outperform films backed by massive star power and colossal budgets. While Dilwale (featuring SRK and Kajol) and Bodyguard (starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor ) came with pre-installed fanbases, Saiyaara has largely relied on emotional storytelling, soulful music, and fresh faces. Even Salaar, headlined by pan-India star Prabhas and made on a over Rs 200 crore budget, has now been overtaken in the Hindi domestic made more than Rs 400 crore across Hindi , Telugu and other languages. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo With one more weekday and a second weekend ahead, many now believe Saiyaara could enter the top 50 club, possibly overtaking films like Sitaare Zameen Par, Raid 2 and Bajirao Mastani to break into the Top 50. For Mohit Suri, this marks a career-high resurgence after a hiatus, and for Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, it sets a dreamlike debut benchmark. The industry is taking note — not just of the numbers — but of the shift in audience preferences, where performance and content can now triumph over brand value and spectacle. As of now, Saiyaara stands tall at No. 62 — but it's clear this journey is far from over.

Is ‘Saiyaara' set to release on THIS OTT platform on Diwali? Here's what we know about the Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda starrer's streaming schedule
'Saiyaara' has proven to be a sleeper hit which means that the film has just come out of the blue and is doing so well at the box office, something which nobody expected. It made Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda into stars overnight and people can't stop gushing over Mohit Suri 's magic along with the heart-wrenching music. As the film continues to mint numbers at the box office, one hears that the makers are now trying to extend the window between the theatrical and OTT release. Usually, a gap of eight weeks is the norm for a film to begin streaming on OTT after its theatrical release. Netflix is the official streaming partner of the film as was mentioned at the start of the film. With the 8-week window norm, one would expect the film to stream on OTT in the second week of September. But now reports suggest that the makers are in talks with the platform to secure a 90-day theatrical window and thus, are eyeing Diwali for release. This would perhaps give the film more time to make the most from its theatrical run. Reportedly, the movie is made on a budget of Rs 45 crore. It has already made more than Rs 150 crore within 6 days of its release. So, it has already recovered its cost and is a hit already. Moreover, the digital streaming and satellite rights would further add to the profit of the film. Just amidst these reports of the delay in OTT streaming, the number of screens and shows of 'Saiyaara' have also been increased in theatres due to added demand. The film has now released in 2000 screens, earlier the release was just limited to 800 screens. The film has done much better than most big releases of superstars like 'Sikandar' and 'Housefull 5' which had a wide release in 4000-5000 screens.
