MoCI-led workshop bolsters fight against counterfeit goods

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Brand Owners' Protection Group (Gulf BPG), organised a training workshop on Wednesday entitled 'Combating Trademark Infringement and Identifying Genuine and Counterfeit Products' held at the Ministry's headquarters in Lusail City.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the importance of observing intellectual property rights and support national efforts combatting trademark infringement and protecting intellectual property rights.
Participants in the workshop included representatives from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Intellectual Property Rights Protection Department and the Consumer Protection and Commercial Fraud Department, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Interior's Department for Combating Economic and Cyber Crimes – and the General Authority of Customs.
The training programme featured a practical review of products from a number of global companies and their trademarks. It also included an explanation of the methods used to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit products in the Qatari market. Additionally, it highlighted key field challenges faced by law enforcement officers during inspection campaigns, discussed ways to enhance coordination between the concerned authorities to detect violations, and reviewed the latest technologies used in identifying counterfeit goods.
The workshop is part of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's efforts to strengthen cooperation between the public and private sectors. It contributes to enhancing the efficiency of the Ministry's specialised personnel, developing their skills in detecting counterfeit and fraudulent products, and applying best practices in intellectual property protection — thereby ensuring a secure commercial environment that safeguards the rights of consumers and trademark owners in the State of Qatar.

Hamad Lahdan Al Mohannadi affirmed that this agreement comes within the QOC 's commitment to forging strategic and effective partnerships with leading national institutions in finance, business, and management, aimed at institutional excellence and optimal investment in human capital in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030. He also emphasized that this partnership builds on a series of strategic initiatives focused on financial and leadership development, reflecting the Qatar Olympic Committee's strong commitment to empowering its administrative and technical teams and enhancing institutional performance. On the occasion, Dr. Khalifa Al Salahi Al Yafei said: 'Thismemorandum represents an important milestone in the Academy's journey to expand its national partnerships, contributing to the empowerment of Qatari talent and enhancing their readiness across various fields. Ministry of Labour launches training programme in tourism, hospitality and event management
QNA Doha As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen national workforce participation across key economic sectors, Qatar's Ministry of Labour (MoL) has launched a specialised training programme in tourism, hospitality, and event management. The initiative is led by the ministry's Department of Qualifying and Skills Development, in collaboration with Al Rayyan International University College (ARIU). Targeted at Qatari nationals and children of Qatari women holding university or secondary school qualifications, the programme is part of the ministry's wider 'training-to-employment' strategy. It supports the national workforce development initiative 'We Work for Qatar,' which aims to prepare citizens for meaningful careers in the private sector, with a focus on high-potential industries. The six-month training programme is the product of a cooperation agreement signed with ARIU in February 2025. It combines academic instruction with applied training and field-based placements in real work environments. Participants will gain practical skills and experience in areas such as customer service, event planning, tourism operations, and hospitality management. Designed to meet the actual needs of Qatar's labour market, the curriculum reflects the priorities of the tourism and hospitality sector, a key pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030. The programme aims to develop job-ready national talent that can support the growth and diversification of the country's economy. In a key employment initiative, the programme guarantees job placement for successful participants, who will be offered roles at Al Faisal Holding, one of the country's leading private sector employers. This approach not only enhances employability but also contributes to long-term professional stability and economic inclusion. The Ministry of Labour reaffirmed its commitment to building a skilled, competitive national workforce through strategic partnerships with private sector employers and academic institutions. These training programmes form part of the government's broader efforts under the Third National Development Strategy and the Strategy for a Productive and Globally Competitive Workforce. By investing in skills development and nationalization programmes, the ministry continues to advance Qatar's vision for a diversified and resilient economy driven by empowered national talent.

‘Qatar Square' reflects depth of Qatar-Albania relations
QNA Tirana Chairperson of Qatar Museums HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani visited 'Qatar Square', one of Qatar Fund for Development's (QFFD) projects in the Albanian capital of Tirana. During her visit, Deputy to the Prime Minister Natalie Blushi, Ambassador of Qatar to Albania HE Jaber bin Ali Hussein Al Dosari and Director-General of QFFD Fahad bin Hamad Al Sulaiti were also in attendance. The visit aimed to strengthen cultural and diplomatic relations between the two countries and included a comprehensive programme focused on promoting cooperation in areas of culture, urban development, and heritage preservation. This project is considered one of the most prominent initiatives of QFFD as it embodies a shared cultural and urban development vision and reflects the strong fraternal ties between Qatar and Albania. In July 2024, QFFD signed a grant agreement with the Municipality of Tirana to establish 'Qatar Square' in the heart of the capital. The project is funded with a budget of EUR 11 million and spans an area of 23,700 square metres. It will feature diverse facilities, including public celebration areas, exhibition and event spaces, commercial outlets, gathering spaces, and a water purification system for the Lana River, which will support the natural irrigation of the surrounding park. The square's design is inspired by the traditional Qatari Sadu pattern, reflecting the beauty of Qatari heritage and fostering cultural exchange between the two nations. The project seeks to achieve long-term development goals, including creating a suitable environment for building 25,000 housing units around the square and generating diverse job opportunities for Albanian citizens. This will contribute positively to the local economy and position the square as a vibrant centre in the city.
