TrusTrace's New, AI-Powered Data Hub Gives Insights on Supply Chain Compliance
The supply chain traceability provider announced Tuesday it had launched an upgraded platform which leverages artificial intelligence to conglomerate and analyze data, in turn offering up recommendations and monitoring supply chain risks to flag to the client.

Shameek Ghosh, CEO of TrusTrace, said he believes the update will help clients take charge of their supply chains in a new way, particularly in a time of economic uncertainty.

The system can now gather supply chain data from multiple sources, including suppliers, compliance documents and internal records; flag risks for proactive management; find holes in information necessary for compliance processes; help clients make decisions with a more holistic view of supply chain and more. It does so by leveraging AI to parse through the data, which it contends betters the data sets and allows for data to be used for many purposes, rather than being siloed.
TrusTrace noted that the technology is applicable to small-to-medium businesses and large enterprises alike. It said brands and manufacturers are already using the upgraded platform, but did not disclose who the earliest clients testing the new system included.
The announcement comes on the heels of the Swedish company's partnership with Avery Dennison, aimed at providing stronger transparency into raw materials' origins and uses throughout the supply chain, so that clients can discern a clear chain of custody. The collaboration saw Avery Dennison integrating TrusTrace's technology into its end-to-end supply chain solution, Optica.
Kenny Liu, vice president and general manager S. Asia, EMEA and Optica at Avery Dennison, said the business relationship enriched the company's ability to provide meaningful information and insights to its clients.

Well, yes and no. "Semiconductor supply chains worked well in 2024, even as the industry grew by almost 20%," Deloitte said in its 2025 Global Semiconductor Industry Outlook. "At this time, there's no reason to believe 2025 supply chains will be less resilient, but as always, the risk is there." The study said, "the industry may be more vulnerable to supply chain disruptions than ever before", given how important generative AI chips are expected to be this year and beyond, and the relatively higher concentration of processor, memory, and packaging required for cutting-edge chips, "Although the industry is likely to become less concentrated geographically thanks to various chips acts-and initiatives like onshoring, reshoring, nearshoring, and friendshoring are all still in their early days-the industry remains highly vulnerable for the next year or two, at least," Deloitte said. Onshoring and reshoring involves bringing production back to a company's home country, while nearshoring relocates operations to a nearby country and friendshoring relocates production to countries that are considered allies. Deloitte added that the chip industry "can be notoriously cyclical." "The industry has flipped from growth to shrinkage nine times in the last 34 years," the firm said. "So, it may seem that the industry is seeing less extreme growth or shrinkage in the last 14 years, compared to 1990 to 2010, but the frequency of contractions seems to have increased." Amazon (AMZN) CEO Andy Jassy addressed the issue in May during the e-commerce and entertainment giant's first-quarter earnings call. "Our AI business right now is a multi billion dollar annual run rate business," he said. "It's growing triple digit percentages year over year. And as fast as we actually put the capacity in, it's being consumed." Jassy said that "there are other parts of the supply chain that that are a little bit jammed up as well, motherboards and some other componentry." "But some of that is just because there is so much demand right now," he said. "But I do believe that the supply chain issues and the capacity issues will continue to get better as the year proceeds." Bernstein raised the firm's price target on Amazon on July 1 to $235 from $230 and kept an outperform rating on the shares. The firm noted that the growth of Amazon Web Services (AWS), the company's cloud computing platform, decelerated sequentially in Q1 to +17% year-over-year, while AI contribution continues to grow triple digits year-over-year from a relatively smaller base compared with Azure, Microsoft's (MSFT) cloud-computing platform. Similar to their cloud service provider peers, Amazon remains supply constrained on not only chips, but also motherboards and other components, which has put a near-term cap on topline growth despite strong demand indications. The firm noted Jassy's comments about improving capacity throughout the year. Microsoft suffered a setback when its next-generation Maia AI chip, codenamed "Braga," which was originally planned for mass production in 2025, has been delayed until at least 2026. When the Braga chip goes into production, it is expected to fall well short of the performance of Nvidia's (NVDA) Blackwell chip, Reuters reported. Kenneth Norgan, stalwart patron of Harris Theater, dies
Chicago businessman and philanthropist Kenneth Norgan was on the board of several local institutions including the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, where he was the founding sponsor of the 'Beyond the Aria' series. 'Ken's 10-year commitment to underwriting our premier series, 'Beyond the Aria,' was legendary … raising awareness of opera and classical music while building relationships one by one,' said Harris Theater co-founder Abby McCormick O'Neil. 'We bonded over the years as friends who both loved the mission of the theater and everything it was trying to do to capture and build an audience.' Norgan, 82, died of complications of a pulmonary embolism on June 9 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, said Matt Olaveson, a longtime friend and fellow Swedish American Museum board member. A Streeterville resident, Norgan previously had lived in Lake Forest. Born in the North Side Lincoln Park neighborhood, Norgan grew up in Lincolnwood and was the son and grandson of the owners of the Norgan Pontiac auto dealership on the Northwest Side. When he was a teenager, his parents agreed to invest in a new fast-food business founded by their friend Ray Kroc, and in short order, Norgan was working at the first franchised McDonald's restaurants that his family bought, in Glenview and Libertyville. After receiving bachelor's and master's degrees in linguistics from the University of Michigan, Norgan taught German at Maine South High School in Park Ridge until 1971, when he rejoined his family's business. Ultimately, he owned and oversaw 13 McDonald's franchise restaurants in the northern suburbs. Norgan was a founding member of Ronald McDonald House Charities, an organization that provides housing for the families of hospitalized children. In 2010, Norgan was a co-chair of a campaign to build the 80-room, 16-story Ronald McDonald House at 211 E. Grand Ave. in Streeterville, near Lurie Children's Hospital. The $40 million facility opened in 2012. Norgan also was a longtime board member and a former board chair for the Harris Theater, which in November 2003 opened a nearly 1,500-seat theater in Millennium Park that offers a performing space for small and medium-sized music and dance organizations. 'His passion for music and dance was unwavering,' said Michael Tiknis, the Harris Theater's former president and managing director. 'He was always either at a performance or on his way to one.' Tiknis recalled traveling with Norgan to Hamburg, Germany, to see the Hamburg Ballet as part of the preparation to bring that troupe to the Harris. Harris Theater President and CEO Lori Dimun said Norgan's devotion to the theater was 'beautifully expressed' through his role as the founding supporter of the 'Beyond the Aria' series, which was launched during the 2014-15 season. The series brings together stars from the Lyric Opera of Chicago and emerging artists from the Ryan Opera Center. ''Beyond the Aria' reflected everything Ken loved — artistic excellence, intimate connection between performers and audience, and the joy of experiencing something deeply personal and movingly,' Dimun said. 'Many of our longtime subscribers were introduced to 'Beyond the Aria' because Ken invited them. He didn't just support the series — he built a beautiful community around it.' Dimun also highlighted Norgan's work in developing the Harris Theater's partnership with Ronald McDonald House Charities, which, she said, 'became a cornerstone of our community engagement work.' O'Neil noted that Norgan always tried to avoid the spotlight when marking milestones in the Harris Theater's history. 'He never wanted the attention or the spotlight and actually was quite shy. As a result, we became a bit of a comic routine — I always wanted him at the podium with me and egged him on to speak,' O'Neil said. 'In keeping with who he was, Ken with a smile on his face would say as little as possible when I would ask him to speak. Over the years, we made donors laugh with our routine that just organically grew out of my determination to make him say something and his resolve to be as silent as possible.' Norgan also served on the boards of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Ryan Opera Center. Proud of his Swedish heritage, he also served on the boards of the Swedish American Museum and the foundation board of Swedish Covenant Hospital. 'Ken got involved with the Swedish American Museum on many levels,' said the museum's co-founder and former executive director, Kerstin Lane. 'Ken was a gentle soul with much to give to this world.' Norgan also had a home in southwest Michigan for many years. Norgan is survived by his partner of 28 years, Jose 'Pepe' Conforme; and a brother, William. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, July 27, at the Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph St., Chicago.

Billionaire H&M founding family speeds up share purchases
By Helen Reid and Greta Rosen Fondahn LONDON/STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -The billionaire Persson family has picked up the pace of share purchases in the H&M fashion empire it founded, regulatory filings showed on Tuesday, potentially boosting speculation the company may eventually be taken private. The family's Ramsbury Invest holding company, primarily owned by Sweden's richest man Stefan Persson, bought 42.75 million H&M shares in the first half of this year, according to the Swedish financial regulator, with the most recent transaction on Monday. That is a faster pace so far than in 2024, when Ramsbury Invest purchased 56.85 million shares over the year as a whole, and in 2023, when the family bought 55.65 million shares. "As the family owns more shares they have a higher dividend to reinvest which would support increased share purchases," said Deutsche Bank analyst Adam Cochrane, who expects the family to take H&M private by 2030. The Persson family and its related companies owned more than 64% of H&M's shares at the end of May, according to the company's website. H&M referred Reuters' questions about the share purchases to a spokesperson for Ramsbury Invest, who declined to comment on the stake-building or on the possibility of the company being taken private. "I think they will, in due time, take it private - the question is, is it now, or in ten or 20 years?" said Peter Magnusson, portfolio manager at Cicero Fonder in Stockholm. The family would likely need to find external financing or partners to buy the whole company, Magnusson added. H&M's market value is around 187 billion Swedish crowns ($19.7 billion). Investment bankers expect more publicly-listed retailers to go private, since U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs have dented share prices and driven market volatility. H&M's share price is down 9% since the start of this year. H&M was founded by Erling Persson in 1947, and his son Stefan took over as CEO in 1982, staying in the role for 27 years before handing over to his son Karl-Johan Persson in 2009.
