Terrorist killed in Udhampur last month was topmost JeM commander: J&K DGP
The DGP spoke to reporters during his visit to the Akhnoor police station in Jammu district. He felicitated the personnel for receiving the prestigious 'Award of Excellence' from the Ministry of Home Affairs in the annual ranking of police stations in J-K for 2024.
Handing over the award to the police station, the DGP hailed the officers and men posted at the police station for their rapport with the public and said the successful operation in the Akhnoor sector early this year was the result of timely input received from the public.
While asking the present SHO and the SDPO to keep up the legacy, the police chief lauded the exceptional performance of the then SHO, Tariq Ahmed, SDPO, Mohan Sharma and SP, Brijesh Sharma, for their outstanding leadership and dedication in 2024.
Nalin Prabhat told reporters that the security forces are continuing their operations against the terrorists.
'The anti-terror operations are taking place continuously, and recently, we got a very big success in Dudu-Basantgarh, where a senior and topmost JeM commander, who was active in that area for the last four years, was killed.
'The operations are taking place and all the terrorists will be eliminated one by one,' the police chief said.
On June 26, JeM terrorist Haider, code-named Maulvi, from Pakistan, was killed in a gunfight while three of his associates managed to escape, taking advantage of inclement weather, challenging topography and dense forest in the Basantgarh area.
'Police cannot be successful without the support of the public. The public support makes all difficult tasks easy, otherwise there will be challenges,' he said, lauding the Jammu police for their outstanding performance against the drug menace, bovine smuggling and gangsters.

1 2 Ludhiana: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday announced that the state's ongoing 'War Against Drugs' campaign had entered its final phase, with the formation of defence committees in villages and urban wards to eliminate drug trafficking and ensure long-term vigilance. Addressing members of these newly formed committees in Ludhiana, Mann said that the campaign, launched on February, 4, had already gone a long way in breaking the drug supply chain. He expressed gratitude towards people of Punjab for their support. To maintain momentum of the campaign, the government has constituted village and ward defence committees, each comprising 10 to 20 members, based on population. Core members include the sarpanch or ward councillor, a representative from the anti-drug campaign, the BDPO or their representative, and the SHO or their representative. Only individuals with clean records and strong reputation, such as retired Army personnel, teachers, and village elders, will be included. Each committee will be officially notified by the local SDM, and members will receive government-issued ID cards to facilitate communication with authorities. These committees will monitor drug-related activities, assist in rehabilitation efforts, and conduct awareness campaigns through street plays, door-to-door outreach, and school programs. Looking in the mirror: 11 cops fined for violating helmet & seatbelt rules
Bhopal: In a move to enforce the mandate on wearing helmets for two-wheeler riders and seatbelts for four-wheeler drivers, the traffic police conducted a surprise check of their own personnel on Monday morning. Senior police officers maintained that the surprise check aimed to ensure internal discipline and set an example for the public on adherence to road safety rules. A senior traffic officer said that to reduce road accident fatalities and ensure strict enforcement of road safety rules, the traffic police, in coordination with local police stations, routinely conduct vehicle checking drives and penalise violators. However, it was frequently observed that police personnel themselves often failed to follow these rules while driving, leading to public criticism of enforcement actions. To address this, the traffic police launched an internal checking drive at the Traffic Police Station itself, which will be conducted regularly. He said that on Monday, starting at 9 am, a surprise checking was carried out at the Traffic Police Station. As cops arrived for duty, those violating helmet and seatbelt rules were immediately penalised and issued stern warnings by SHO Traffic KKL Meena. Out of the personnel checked, 11 were fined—eight for riding two-wheelers without helmets and three for not wearing seatbelts while driving four-wheelers. Notably, after the recently held meeting with Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety Chairman, retired Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre, on July 31, Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra issued a strict directive requiring all officers and personnel posted in various police units across Bhopal district to mandatorily wear helmets while riding two-wheelers and fasten seatbelts while driving four-wheelers.
