And then there were 10.
After NCAA Regionals concluded Wednesday, the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship field is set for May 23-28 at Omni La Costa's North Course in Carlsbad, California. With one tournament left in the 2024-25 men's college golf season, the best players across the country have separated themselves from the rest, but only one can win the Haskins Award.
The Fred Haskins Award presented by Stifel honors the Player of the Year in men's college golf, as selected by college golfers, coaches and members of the college golf media. Finalists for the Haskins Award were selected by a panel of Golfweek and Golf Channel reporters. They are listed alphabetically.

Veteran Caleb Wheatland set to lead Auburn's talented, young linebacker room

The Maryland transfer brings a wealth of knowledge to the Plains after logging 12 starts at Maryland. The Auburn Tigers' biggest question on defense this season resides within the linebacker room. Sure, the Tigers have plenty of talent with the likes of Demarcus Riddick, Robert Woodyard, Xavier Adkins, and Bryce Deas. However, neither of the aforementioned has more than three games of starting experience. In steps Caleb Wheatland, a senior linebacker who broke into a vital Power Four role last season at Maryland by starting 11 games for the Terrapins. He brings a wealth of knowledge to Auburn's young room, which made him an attractive transfer portal piece to head coach Hugh Freeze last offseason. Earlier this week, Freeze shared that Wheatland's starting experience, as well as his leadership ability, will be vital to Auburn's defense this season. 'We like our linebackers that we have, but it felt like the youth needed some experience. You go get a guy that started a bunch of games in Power Four football and is a really good kid and good player. You just felt like you needed somebody to add to that youth in that room. (Robert) Woodyard is still young, (Antonio) Melendez is still young, I think they are both going to be two really good Mike linebackers, but can we get one that has some experience. And that's what we have in Caleb.' Wheatland logged 100 tackles in three seasons at Maryland, with 15 tackles for loss and three pass deflections. He took a step forward in pass rush and coverage skill last season by grading out 72.2 and 74.4, respectively, according to Pro Football Focus. According to PFF data, Wheatland applied 15 pressures to opposing quarterbacks, four resulting in sacks. As a coverage man, Wheatland allowed 15 passes to be caught in 26 opportunities, giving opposing receivers a catch rate of 57.7%. Wheatland and Riddick will be Auburn's most experienced linebackers this season. As a freshman in 2024, Riddick logged 27 tackles with three sacks in 12 games, making three starts. He created 16 pressures last season, and had three games where he registered three pressures. In 239 snaps, he missed just six tackles, which makes him an efficient linebacker that will be sure to improve with more reps this season. Watch Freeze's opening press conference of fall camp below. CBS Sports predicts Auburn football's first loss of the 2025 season

The SEC is considered one of the toughest conferences in college football, and it is expected that every program within the league will stumble at least once this season. The good news is that the new College Football Playoff format is more forgiving to regular season losses, which could help Auburn in its quest for its first-ever College Football Playoff appearance. Brad Crawford of CBS Sports recently evaluated each SEC schedule, and which week would result in each team's first loss. For Auburn, he expects the Tigers to fall early in the SEC slate. Crawford expects Auburn to be ranked an unbeaten heading into Oklahoma on Sept. 20, but does not forecast the Tigers to exit the same way. Auburn will be nationally ranked going to Norman in Week 4 on the heels of a 3-0 start highlighted by a season-opening victory at Baylor that will recharge the fanbase a bit. Then, we're going to watch two high-powered offenses go at it with former Sooners quarterback Jackson Arnold making his much-anticipated return to Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. Unfortunately, for the third straight season under Hugh Freeze, the Tigers will drop their SEC opener. The Tigers have had rough outings in SEC openers under Hugh Freeze, losing each by 10 or more points. Auburn fell on the road at Texas A&M in 2023, 27-10, and followed suit in 2024 by dropping its conference opener to Arkansas, 24-14. This season, Auburn will look to end the trend and gain momentum heading into another road game at Texas A&M to close the September slate. If Crawford's projection of Auburn stumbling at Oklahoma is true, then the Tigers will have a shot to bounce back three weeks later at home against rival Georgia. Crawford forecasts the Tigers to stun Georgia on Oct. 11 at Jordan-Hare Stadium, which would "rattle" the SEC at its midway point. Auburn's bye week ahead of playing Georgia could benefit them in addition to the game being played in the primetime slot. Anticipation of Auburn's 2025 season will fade on Friday, Aug. 29, when the Tigers kick off the season at Baylor.
