TTD asks devotees to exercise caution on social media

The Hindu7 days ago
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) on Friday cautioned devotees against a fake Facebook account created in the name of its Executive Officer.
The account is reportedly being used to send suspicious messages, including requests for money, which the TTD denounced as a fraudulent and deceptive act by some miscreants.
Further, the TTD has cautioned devotees against falling prey to such tactics and urged them to exercise caution when receiving unsolicited messages.
Devotees are advised to stay away from fake accounts and report any suspicious activity to the TTD Vigilance Department at 9866898630 or toll-free number 1800 425 4141, a statement released by TTD said.
To ensure authenticity, the TTD has reiterated that devotees should rely solely on information provided through its official website www.tirumala.org or its verified social media handles.

Govt orders action against two officials after judicial probe

Tirupati: The State Cabinet which met in Amaravati on Thursday has decided to act against two officials held responsible for the stampede that claimed six lives during the Vaikunta Ekadasi token distribution in Tirupati earlier this year. The move comes after a detailed judicial inquiry report revealed critical lapses in crowd control at a key token distribution site. The stampede, which occurred on January 8 at Sri Padmavati Park, one of the designated centres for issuing Vaikunta Dwara Darshan tokens, had triggered public outcry over mismanagement and poor safety planning by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and local police. The tragedy also left several devotees injured and raised questions about the preparedness of the authorities. Following months of investigation, a one-man judicial commission headed by retired High Court judge Justice Satyanarayana Murthy submitted a comprehensive 200-page report to the government earlier this month. The report scrutinised the chain of events leading to the stampede, pinpointing procedural lapses and administrative negligence at Padmavati Park. According to the findings, while general coordination between Tirupati Urban SP L Subbarayudu and former TTD Chief Vigilance and Security Officer (CVSO) S Sreedhar was found to be satisfactory, with both implementing safety measures at most distribution points – the failure to enforce crowd control protocols specifically at Padmavati Park was the root cause of the incident. The report singles out the then SV Dairy Farm Director Harinath Reddy and DSP AV Ramana Kumar for ignoring directives from their superiors and ordering the gates to be opened prematurely. This action, the inquiry noted, led to an uncontrollable rush of devotees, resulting in the fatal stampede. It was learnt that the Cabinet recommended further proceedings against these two officials. Alarmingly, the Commission also highlighted shortcomings in emergency response. Although two ambulances were present at the location, they were not used efficiently to transport the injured. Five of the six deaths were reportedly due to delayed medical attention, raising further concerns over crisis preparedness. In course of the probe, the commission summoned TTD Executive Officer J Syamala Rao, District Collector S Venkateswar, former JEO M Gowthami, former SP L Subbarayudu and other officials both from the government and TTD. The commission also took note of the views of those injured in the stampede and the kin of the deceased.

Hateful online posts: Dispute between sweet shop owner, customer resolved, says Nuh police

According to police sources, this incident occurred after Prasad refused to accept a payment through UPI from a customer. Ten people were booked after Girraj Prasad, owner of Lala Chandiram Sweets in Anaj Mandi, complained that false propaganda was being run online against his shop on Facebook. Gurugram, Jul 24 (PTI) Nuh Police said that the matter stemming from the hateful online posts against a sweet shop was resolved on Thursday after its owner and a customer resolved the issue amicably. Prasad, in his complaint, alleged that on July 21, some people made false accusations on Facebook against his outlet and his Muslim employees. 'Ten to 12 Muslim employees work at my shop. For the last 30 years, milk has been supplied by suppliers from the Muslim community…It is a well-planned conspiracy and an attempt to spoil the brotherhood and incite communal riots,' Prasad mentioned in the complaint. After the FIR, the social activists and local political leaders went to meet DC Vishram Kumar Meena, where Nuh SP Rajesh Kumar was also present. 'The matter was not related to a particular community but only between a shop owner and a customer, and the matter is resolved now', said Meena. Girraj and his customer both expressed regret over the matter, with the former also agreeing to put a board outside the shop about the payment mode.
