Update On Liverpool And Their Pursuit Of This Newcastle United Star: What Should Slot Do?

Yahoo2 days ago
In a recent report, The Athletic (subscription required) offered an update on Liverpool and their pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak. It has been revealed that the Reds have failed with their opening bid for the Swedish forward, who is keen on a move to Anfield this summer.
Isak's Impressive Record In The Premier League
Isak enjoyed an excellent run of form at the Tyneside club after he put in a string of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. The Swedish striker banged in 27 goals and earned six assists in 42 matches for Newcastle last season across multiple competitions.
The 25-year-old led the line well for the Magpies as he averaged 3.1 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He kept 43.2% of his shots on target. Isak was even accurate when distributing possession in the final third, based on his pass success rate of 75.3% in the English top tier (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Tyneside club will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, Liverpool have no choice but to meet Newcastle's demands for their prized asset.

What Should Liverpool Boss Arne Slot With Regards To Isak?
Isak excels at finding some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opponent's penalty area and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Sweden international has proven his worth as a prolific goal-scorer in the Premier League. Hence, it is no surprise that the Reds are showing interest in recruiting Isak in this summer transfer window.
We can expect Isak to add plenty of firepower to Liverpool boss Arne Slot's attack. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team place at the Merseyside club next season.
At 25, Isak has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a great choice for the Reds to consider this off-season. He might even help Liverpool challenge for some major honours over the next few years. Hence, Slot should focus on trying everything in his power to get him on board ahead of the new campaign.

Emma Raducanu hires Francis Roig, longtime Rafael Nadal coach, through 2025

Emma Raducanu has hired Francis Roig, a longtime member of Rafael Nadal's coaching team, until the end of 2025. Roig, who worked with Nadal between 2005 and 2022, will join Raducanu for the start of the Cincinnati Open, which begins Aug. 7. Discussions with Roig began during Wimbledon, with a trial following Raducanu's third-round exit to world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Raducanu, the world No. 33, has been without a permanent coach since Nick Cavaday stepped down in January. She has worked with Mark Petchey, the commentator and former coach of Andy Murray, on an informal basis, but has been seeking a formal coach with Petchey's broadcast commitments prohibitive to a full-time partnership. Raducanu has enjoyed an upswing in form during their work together, reaching the quarterfinals of Queen's, the Wimbledon warmup in London, and the semifinals of the Citi Open in Washington D.C. Roig worked alongside Nadal's principal coaches — the player's uncle, Toni, Marc Lopez and Carlos Moya — for all 22 of his Grand Slam titles. He left the team in 2022, going on to coach Italy's Matteo Berrettini between 2023 and 2024. Raducanu and Roig are expected to practice together Aug. 5 ahead of the WTA 1,000 event, one rung below a Grand Slam. This article originally appeared in The Athletic. Chelsea Are Hoping To Land This Bundesliga Playmaker: What Will He Add To Maresca's Side?

In a recent report, Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol mentioned that Chelsea are hoping to land Red Bull Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons this summer. It is understood that the Blues are in talks to secure the services of the Dutch attacker this off-season. Simons' Good Record In German Football Last Season Simons enjoyed a decent run of form at the German club in the previous campaign. The Dutch sensation found the back of the net 11 times and earned eight assists in 33 matches for RB Leipzig last season across various competitions. The 22-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 2.09 shots per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga. He kept 46% of his attempts on target. Simons was even tidy when distributing possession in the opponent's half, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 78.6% in the German top tier (stats via His current contract at the German club will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Chelsea would have to make a good offer if they want to lure Simons to Stamford Bridge this off-season. LEIPZIG, GERMANY – APRIL 05: Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig looks on during the Bundesliga match between RB Leipzig and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at Red Bull Arena on April 05, 2025 in Leipzig, Germany. (Photo by) What Will Simons Add To Chelsea Boss Enzo Maresca's Side? Simons is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with it in and around the opponent's penalty area. He can shoot the ball with venom from long range and has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third. The Dutch talent is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a wide player if told to do so by his manager. However, only time will tell whether he can handle the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League. Simons would add more quality and dynamism to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca's frontline. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at the West London club in the coming seasons. At 22, Simons has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, it makes sense for the Blues to go all out to bring him on board in this transfer window. However, Maresca has to give him some time before he can get the best out of the talented attacker at Stamford Bridge.
