‘Covert mechanism to suppress rivals' — In Andhra Pradesh, Jagan's party accuses Naidu's TDP of ‘orchestrating' attack on Dalit sarpanch

An attack on a YSR Congress Party sarpanch in Guntur district's Ponnur has kicked up a political storm in Andhra Pradesh, with leaders of the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led outfit accusing the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of orchestrating the attack.
At a press conference he held Monday, former minister and YSRCP Guntur District President Ambati Rambabu accused Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's party of 'orchestrating a systematic deterioration of law and order in the state targeting YSRCP leaders and workers at the grassroots level'. He was referring to the attack on Mannava village's Dalit sarpanch B Nagamalleswar Rao allegedly by some TDP workers last week.
Rao was at a roadside tea stall on July 3 when he was allegedly attacked by two men carrying iron pipes. He is currently stated to be in the ICU.
'It is a covert mechanism involving retired IPS officers loyal to him, executing a master plan to suppress political rivals. This shadowy network identifies opposition members at the police station level, leading to orchestrated attacks, atrocities, illegal arrests, and false cases. The latest of such attacks is the brutal assault on Mannava village sarpanch B Nagamalleswara Rao, who is now fighting for his life due to an attack instigated by a local TDP MLA,' Rambabu said.
Meanwhile, former YSRCP minister Perni Venkataramaiah accused Naidu of 'manipulating all institutions with police being mute spectators'.
'The brazen attack on Dalit sarpanch B Nagamalleswar Rao of Mannava village in Guntur district shows the lawlessness in the state and the video going viral shows the gravity of the situation. Nagamalleswar Rao has been with YSRCP and did not yield to the enticements and threats by the local TDP MLA Ponnur MLA Dhulipalla Narendra. With his presence being a hindrance, the attack was carried out. The video shows the heinous way the attack was carried out,' Venkataramaiah said.
The Ponnur MLA has denied the allegation, claiming it was the fallout of a personal dispute. TDP spokesperson A Venkata Ramana Reddy too has similarly brushed off the accusations.
The YSRCP has also claimed it was worried about potential attacks on the offices of Sakshi media, which the family of former chief minister Jagan owns.
Some petrol bombs and stones were allegedly hurled at Sakhi's Eluru office last month, causing damage to furniture and property.

Communal strife being fuelled under Cong rule, says BJP chief

Bengaluru: The BJP has alleged that a systematic conspiracy is underway to incite communal strife between two communities in the state. According to the party, anti-national elements are growing bolder with the Congress government's backing. Addressing reporters in Shivamogga on Monday, BJP state President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra said, 'Anti-national elements are becoming stronger in Karnataka, particularly in the coastal region. Forces that do not want peace and aim to create communal discord are ensuring that untoward incidents continue to occur.' 'The tragedy is that the state government is not taking this seriously. Whether it's the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty, the Mysuru police station attack, or incidents of violence during Tipu Jayanti in our Shivamogga district -- trouble is recurring during festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi. These disruptive forces feel emboldened because they know they are protected by the state government,' he alleged. 'Due to the inaction of the government, these anti-national elements are becoming more daring. They believe that no one will hold them accountable because the government is on their side,' he added. 'There is a situation where the fence is eating the crop. In this background, such disturbing incidents are taking place. The BJP strongly condemns this. The Chief Minister and the Home Minister -- who is one only in name -- must pay attention to this situation,' Vijayendra said. Commenting on the recent spate of heart attack cases in Hassan district, he said, 'A series of heart attacks are being reported, especially among young people, and lives are being lost. Shockingly, the district's in-charge minister has not visited the area in the past three months. This is the height of irresponsibility. One does not need further evidence to see how callously the Congress-led government is running the state.' Turning to the state's financial condition, he said, 'The state's economy has collapsed. The Financial Advisor to the Chief Minister, Bavaraj Rayareddy, has stated that if people want roads and other development works, the government will have to stop the guarantee schemes.' 'When the BJP points out that the Congress-led government is struggling to pay salaries, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah claims that everything is fine,' Vijayendra said. 'But through Rayareddy, the Chief Minister has made it clear to the public that funds for development cannot be allocated unless the guarantee schemes are first delivered. This government has pushed the state into a financial crisis.' 'The people are tired of this government and are regretting bringing it to power. That is the reality. The damage caused is so deep that no Chief Minister will be able to easily fix Karnataka's economy,' he concluded.

Ludhiana: Eyeing harmony with anti-sacrilege law: Arora

Punjab cabinet minister and Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) state president Aman Arora on Monday said the aim behind the government's plan to introduce a robust law to prevent acts of sacrilege was to ensure religious harmony. Addressing the media during a visit to the Sudhar Trust in Khanna, accompanied by fellow cabinet ministers Tarunpreet Singh Sond and Harbhajan Singh ETO, Arora emphasised the urgent need for a strong legal framework to preserve Punjab's communal harmony. People's welfare is in focus, says Aman Arora. (HT Photo) Citing past incidents such as the Bargari-Behbal Kalan sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, which disturbed peace in the state, Arora said, 'With this new law, we will ensure that such acts are deterred through strict legal consequences.' He reiterated the Mann-led government's commitment to restoring Punjab's prosperity and vibrancy. He emphasised that every decision made by the Mann-led government is driven by a commitment to the progress, welfare and betterment of Punjab's people. Arora also issued a stern warning to those exploiting Punjab through violence, corruption or drug trafficking. 'Those who amass wealth through unlawful means will face the consequences of their actions,' he stated, reinforcing the government's zero-tolerance stance on crime and corruption. Grewal demands inclusion of Hindu temples and idols in sacrilege Bill Senior BJP leader and prominent Sikh figure Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal accused the AAP government of adopting a 'selective and vote-bank-driven' approach in drafting the sacrilege Bill, which is expected to be tabled during a special session of the Punjab Assembly on July 10 and 11. Grewal urged the government to broaden the scope of the bill to protect all religious communities. 'If this government is sincere, it must include Pran Pratishthit Hindu temples and idols in the Bill. Anything less would be a betrayal to millions of Hindus whose sacred spaces have also faced repeated attacks,' he said. 'For years, Hindu temples have been vandalised and desecrated under this government's nose. The AAP dispensation has conveniently turned a blind eye. Are Hindu sentiments expendable in Punjab politics? Are they just not vote-worthy enough for the Mann government?' he questioned. While welcoming the inclusion of Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the proposed Bill, he said, 'The BJP holds the Guru Granth Sahib in the highest spiritual and national esteem.'

Police recover missing girl who alleges woman pushed her into flesh trade

Kaithal, July 7 (UNI) Shocking revelations have surfaced in the case of a woman who alleged she was tortured by police at Siwan police station during interrogation related to a missing girl. The police have recovered the missing girl, who has accused the woman of pushing her into having physical relations with five persons. The girl's family has demanded strict action against the woman. At the same time, the allegations of the woman being beaten by the police have been described as false. The matter was as follows: On June 29, a complaint was lodged at Siwan police station in which it was stated that a girl has gone missing from her house. The family accused a woman of their neighborhood of being behind the disappearance of the girl. A panchayat was called in the Siwan police station in this case and the police questioned the woman. The following day the woman's family claimed that three male and a female police personnel locked the woman in a room in the police station and beat her up badly. The woman showed injuries to her person in a video on the basis of which Dalit organizations held protests against the police and demanded action against the guilty policemen. The police registered a separate FIR for a fair investigation in the case and entrusted the task of investigation to an SIT. Meanwhile, the police recovered the girl from near Rajaund village and counselled her. The girl revealed that the woman had entrapped her by promising her marriage and forced her to strike physical relations with many men. The girl's brother said "the woman took my sister along with her and she was raped by many men". The girl's father also made serious allegations against the woman. He said "the woman took away my daughter and misled social organizations and urged them to hold a protest against the police". He said that the woman's bruises had been given by her husband and family, not the police. DSP Lalit Kumar said the statements of the girl have been recorded, in which she has made serious allegations against the woman. A separate FIR has been registered to investigate the allegations of beating against the police by the woman, which is being investigated fairly. The girl's family has demanded immediate arrest and strict action against the woman. The father of the girl said that "this woman can also push other girls into the wrong business, it is necessary to secure other girls of the society by punishing her". The family asked the social organizations protesting in support of the woman that they should have first spoken to them to know the truth of the whole matter. Now preparations are being made to take action against the woman on the basis of the statements of the girl and investigation into the alleged beating by the police is also going on. The family has warned that if the woman is not arrested soon, they will be forced to protest on the streets and demonstrate. UNI XC RN
