The event will serve as a platform for government agencies, PSUs, global organisations, financiers and corporates to explore how to accelerate India's green goals while ensuring sustainable economic growth. The conference comes against the backdrop of India's updated nationally determined contributions (NDCs), which include achieving 50 per cent cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy sources by 2030.
Key sessions will explore sector-specific decarbonisation strategies for industries such as cement, steel, power, transport, and agriculture. With the industry sector accounting for around 30 per cent of India's emissions, the forum will examine how hard-to-abate sectors can transition through cleaner technologies, carbon capture, electrification, and alternative fuels like ethanol and green hydrogen.
Public sector heads from Indian Oil, NHPC, ONGC Green, NLC India and SAEL Industries will present their decarbonisation roadmaps, touching upon their green hydrogen, bioenergy, and renewables-based projects. A dedicated panel led by NITI Aayog will review India's progress on its net zero by 2070 goal and the institutional support required to scale up climate investments.
The forum will also include a focused dialogue on transforming agricultural residues into
renewable energy
, highlighting the role of waste-to-energy in tackling air pollution and enhancing farmer incomes. This session will be anchored by SAEL Industries, which has developed India's largest network of biomass power plants.
In another session, CMDs of state-run energy firms will outline strategies for transitioning from fossil fuels to a diversified energy mix. The discussions will also cover recent policy initiatives such as the Green Credit Programme, carbon markets, and renewable energy procurement mechanisms that are shaping India's energy future.
A strong private sector presence will see participation from sustainability heads and CXOs of Mahindra Group, Apollo Tyres, Fortis Healthcare, Godrej Industries, JK Cement, Nestlé India, and more. These sessions will focus on ESG implementation, energy efficiency, digitalisation for climate action, and aligning business models with climate goals.
In the closing session, former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu will offer a long-term perspective on climate diplomacy and the future of sustainable infrastructure development in India. A special address by the Department of Atomic Energy will spotlight the role of nuclear energy in India's clean energy transition.
With India's energy needs projected to double by 2040 and the global pressure mounting to align national actions with the Paris Agreement goals, the ET
India Net Zero Forum
aims to act as a bridge between intent and implementation.

SAEL to invest ₹8,200 cr in Greater Noida solar manufacturing plant
Indian renewable energy firm SAEL Industries Ltd will invest ₹8,200 crore ($954.04 million) to build a 5-gigawatt (GW)-per-year integrated solar cell and module manufacturing facility in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, the company said on Monday. Through one of the largest investments seen so far in the solar manufacturing space in India, the plant in Greater Noida will boost SAEL's total module manufacturing capacity to 8.5 GW. Construction is expected to begin this year. The move aligns with India's push to localise solar manufacturing. From June 2026, only domestically made solar cells from approved manufacturers will be allowed in government projects. India currently has 80 GW of module manufacturing capacity but about 15 GW of cell capacity, with most modules relying on Chinese imports. SAEL operates assets capable of generating more than 6.7 GW of solar power, including operational and constructional projects, and aims to drive that to 10 GW in three years. The company has already raised more than $2.4 billion in equity and debt, and has issued a $305-million green bond in 2024. "By 2030, tentatively, we are looking at a power generation capacity of around 18 to 20GW as an independent power producer," Laxit Awla, CEO of SAEL Industries, told Reuters. The company also plans to file for an initial public offering this year, Awla said, declining to share more details about the timing and size of the IPO. SAEL's revenue from its biomass and independent power production business nearly doubled to ₹687 crore in fiscal 2025 from fiscal 2023. The company aims to grow its revenue from these businesses to ₹3,094 crore by fiscal year 2027.

Continuous employment creation underway: Bhupender Yadav
Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], July 12 (ANI): Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav stated that continuous employment creation by the central government is going on as very big rozgaar mela was organised in the country on Saturday at more than 48 locations in which about 51000 youth were given appointment letters directly by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On the 16th Rozgaar Mela, Yadav told reporters, 'A very big rozgaar mela was organised in the country today at more than 48 locations in which about 51000 youth were given appointment letters directly by PM Narendra Modi. Continuous employment creation by the central government is going on...' Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy, adding that the country has made progress across every sector in the last 11 years. Speaking at the 16th edition of the Rozgar Mela, the Prime Minister said that India's manufacturing sector is one of its 'greatest strength' and that the government has taken steps to boost employment in the private sector. 'The focus of the Indian government is also on creating new employment opportunities in the private sector. Recently, the government has approved a new scheme - the Employment Linked Incentive scheme. Under this scheme, the government will provide Rs 15,000 to youth securing their first job in the private sector, meaning the government will contribute to the first salary of their first job. For this, the government has allocated a budget of about Rs 1 lakh crore, and this scheme will help in creating approximately 3.5 crore jobs,' he said. He also highlighted the steps taken to support manufacturing, saying, 'Today, one of India's greatest strengths is our manufacturing sector. A large number of new jobs are being created in manufacturing... To boost the manufacturing sector, Mission Manufacturing has been announced in this year Budget. In recent years, we have strengthened the Make in India campaign.' The Prime Minister said that two sectors in particular, electronics and mobile phone manufacturing, and defence manufacturing, have seen massive growth. 'From PLI scheme, 11 lakh jobs were created. In the recent years, mobile phones and electronic sectors saw unprecedented expansion. Today, electronics worth Rs 11 lakh crores are being manufactured. This sector has witnessed growth of more than 5 times in the last 11 years. Earlier, there were only 2-4 units of mobile phone manufacturing. Now, the number has increased to 300 units where lakhs of youth are working...' He also spoke about the rapid growth in defence production, especially after Operation Sindoor: 'There is one more such sector and after Operation Sindoor, it has been widely discussed. It is defence manufacturing. India is making new records in defence manufacturing. Our defence production has reached beyond Rs 1.25 lakh crores... Today, our country is rapidly moving towards becoming the world's third-largest economy. This is the marvel of the hard work of my youth. In the past 11 years, India has made progress across every sector,' he said. Quoting a report by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the Prime Minister said that government welfare schemes have also helped boost employment. 'Recently, a report by the International Labour Organisation stated that in the past decade, over 90 crore citizens in India have been brought under the coverage of welfare schemes. The impact of these schemes goes beyond welfare -- they have also contributed significantly to employment generation. For instance, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, over 4 crore houses have been built so far. And it's not just about providing homes. The process of building these houses has created countless job opportunities across the country. In this, most of the jobs were created in villages,' PM Modi added. (ANI)
