Loke Wants Approval For Container Port In PD To Be Expedited
SEREMBAN, April 28 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan government, particularly the local authority concerned, has been urged to expedite the processing of the Planning Approval application for the construction of an artificial intelligence (AI)-driven container port in Port Dickson (PD).
Anthony Loke (PH-Chennah) said the project is a crucial catalyst for the development of Negeri Sembilan, particularly in advancing the Malaysia Vision Valley (MVV) 2.0 initiative, and in strengthening the state's industrial sector.
'I have been informed that the investment for the project from a private company has been secured and the funding to build the port is already available. Therefore, I hope the State Executive Council and the Port Dickson Municipal Council, will give serious attention to the development of this project.
'I jokingly told the Prime Minister that Port Dickson has the word 'Port' in its name but there is no actual port, only a jetty. We hope this container port will be realised, as it will be the first container port development within the state's maritime boundary,' he said when debating the motion of thanks for the Royal Address at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Loke, who is also Transport Minister and Seremban MP, further expressed hope that the state government would prioritise approval of semiconductor investments under the MVV 2.0 project, to ensure the sector continues to grow, especially given the current high demand for semiconductors.
He added that Negeri Sembilan could also seize the opportunity to develop an industrial park through the collaboration under the 'Two Countries, Twin Parks' project between China and Malaysia, for which a memorandum of understanding was recently signed.
Meanwhile, Datuk Saiful Yazan Sulaiman (BN-Johol) proposed the establishment of a special state investment team to explore alternative markets such as the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, while enhancing facilities for investors in green technology and automation in line with the digitalisation agenda.
He also suggested that government-linked companies should become more aggressive in driving the state's economy, rather than relying solely on conventional business models, as the world is rapidly moving towards AI and data-driven economies.
Opposition Leader Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker (PN–Labu) voiced concern over the rising use of vape among the younger generation in the state, viewing it as a serious threat to public health.

Likewise, we would not tolerate such insults if they were directed at our own country. 'Islam calls for reconciliation, yet political hatred is being used to dismiss peace efforts. We will continue to uphold Malaysia's name through diplomacy, not empty rhetoric. We believe in humanitarian solutions, not hostility,' he said in a Facebook post today. Muhammad Kamil also stressed that the peace effort between Thailand and Cambodia transcends party politics and individual interests, and reflects the country's honour. 'This is about Malaysia's standing as a respected regional leader. From the President of the United States and President of China to the entire Asean community, the world welcomed this initiative, but our opposition chose to respond with cynicism. 'They forget that during their time in power, no diplomatic breakthrough of this scale was achieved. Now that the Madani government is actively engaging in international diplomacy and conflict resolution, the opposition resorts to sowing hatred and resentment,' he said. Earlier, Fadhli posted an image on social media depicting a goat and a sheep fighting over a banana, with a monkey acting as the judge, along with a caption that read: 'The goat and sheep shouldn't need a monkey to mediate a dispute over a banana.' Yesterday, Anwar announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to ease tensions along their disputed border, following a special meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Putrajaya. Toll Hike Postponement At 10 Highways To Benefit Nearly One Milllion Users — Nanta
KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Nearly one million users are expected to feel a significant impact following the postponement of toll rate hikes at 10 highways, due to a substantial gap between the current toll rates paid by users and the rates stipulated in concession agreements. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the quantum of increase for Class 1 vehicles, as set out in the concession agreements for the 10 affected highways, ranges between 50 sen and RM4.56, equivalent to a 79 to 83 per cent hike. For instance, he said Class 1 vehicle users passing through the Kuala Lumpur–Putrajaya Expressway (MEX) Toll Plaza will save RM6.80 for a round trip. This is because the toll rate under the concession agreement for 2025 is RM6.90, but the current toll rate is being maintained at RM3.50 per one-way trip, he added. 'If this saving is multiplied over 20 days, or a typical month's usage, or 240 days in a year, the user will save RM136 a month or RM1,632 annually,' he said during the Minister's Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Sh Mohmed Puzi Sh Ali (BN–Pekan) on the implications for highway users if the government had not postponed the toll rate increase for 2025. On July 23, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in an 'announcement of appreciation for Malaysians', said the government had agreed to postpone the toll rate hikes for 10 highways so that the public could continue to enjoy existing rates. The affected highways include the MEX Expressway, South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), Senai–Desaru Expressway (SDE), Duta–Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) and Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway (LATAR). Meanwhile, to a supplementary question from Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (PN–Besut), who asked why tolls in Malaysia are not abolished altogether, Nanta said it is not easy to abolish tolls, as the government would need substantial funding, including for maintenance works, which could run into billions of ringgit.
