Audi begins local assembly of Q7 in Malaysia
This also marks a significant milestone as the first Audi model in the premium luxury segment to be assembled in Southeast Asia.
As Audi continues expanding its footprint, the Q7 local production represents a significant leap toward establishing Malaysia as a key production hub for high-end vehicles.
The move reinforces Audi's commitment to strengthening its presence in the region, catering to the growing demand for high-end mobility solutions.
Expanding automotive production in Malaysia
The seven-seater mild hybrid electric vehicle (MHEV) is being manufactured at the Volkswagen Group Malaysia assembly plant in Pekan, the only Audi production facility in Southeast Asia.
The plant, which already assembles Volkswagen models for Malaysia, operates in partnership with DRB-HICOM Bhd under a contract manufacturing arrangement.
Volkswagen Group Malaysia (VGM) managing director Dr. Susanne Lehmann emphasised the plant's role as a centre of excellence, with a modernised product portfolio designed to uphold Audi's renowned standards in quality, performance and luxury, now locally assembled.
"Today marks more than just the launch of a car. It is a symbol of vision, partnership, innovation and progress."
VGM's world-class German engineering production and infrastructure here represents the highest standards of quality, sustainability and smart manufacturing, she added.
Investment and future expansion
With an initial investment of over RM12 million, the Pekan plant is set to produce up to 5,000 Audi vehicles per annum, with plans to expand its lineup beyond the Q7 in the future.
The Pekan plant currently assembles Volkswagens Golf, Arteon, Tiguan Allspace and Touareg.
The localisation of Audi's production aligns with rising demand for luxury vehicles in Malaysia, fuelled by urbanisation, increasing disposable incomes and a shift toward premium mobility solutions.
According to PHS Automotive Malaysia managing director Denyu Bostandzhiev, local assembly offers competitive pricing and shorter delivery times for Malaysian customers.
"Given the rising demand for D-segment SUVs, now is the perfect time to introduce the Q7, ensuring Audi's presence is strengthened in Malaysia and across the region," he stated.
Performance and features
The Q7 S Line Mild Hybrid (MHEV) being produced in Pekan is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 engine, delivering 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque.
It features an eight-speed Tiptronic gearbox and a 48-volt mild hybrid system, enabling engine-off coasting for up to 40 seconds between speeds of 55 to 160 km/h.
The SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h2.
Luxury and technology
The Q7 comes equipped with advanced features, including:
* Quattro permanent all-wheel drive for superior handling.
* Adaptive air suspension for a smooth ride.
* Four-wheel steering for enhanced maneuverability.
* Bang & Olufsen 3D premium sound system for immersive audio.
* HD Matrix LED headlights with laser high beams for optimal visibility.
* OLED taillights with customizable light signatures2.
Pricing
The Q7 S Line MHEV is priced between RM469,000 and RM489,000, making it a strong competitor against other luxury SUVs like the BMW X5 xDrive50e (about RM494,800) and Mercedes-Benz GLE450 (about RM524,888).

Volkswagen takes €1.3bil hit from Trump tariffs
Published on: Friday, July 25, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jul 25, 2025 By: AFP Text Size: Volkswagen's net profit fell 38.5% year-on-year during the period to hit US$8.54 billion. (EPA Images pic) FRANKFURT: German auto giant Volkswagen said today that tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump had cost it €1.3 billion in the first half of the year as it reported falling profit. Overall net profit fell 38.5% year-on-year during the period to hit €7.28 billion (US$8.54 billion). 'Higher-sales of lower-margin electric vehicles (EVs) as well as restructuring costs hit the result in addition to the tariffs,' Volkswagen said. Finance chief Arno Antlitz said Volkswagen was nevertheless 'on the right track' and that performance was at the 'upper end of expectations', if tariffs and restructuring costs are excluded. The firm struck an unprecedented deal with unions last December to cut 35,000 jobs in Germany by 2030 as part of plans to save €15 billion a year. The 10-brand group also cut its revenue and profit outlook, warning of 'political uncertainty and increased barriers to trade' for the remainder of the year. It now forecasts a profit margin for the year of between 4% and 5%, down from 5.5% to 6.5% previously, amounting to billions of euros for the firm. 'The range assumes that the US will continue to levy tariffs of 10% on imported cars in the best case and stick to its current rate of 27.5% in the worst,' Volkswagen said. Volkswagen's previous guidance, released in April shortly after new US tariffs took effect, did not take the increased duties into account. 'Sales by volume in North America fell 16% 'mainly due to tariffs' in the first half even as they rose slightly worldwide,' Volkswagen said. Trump in April slapped an additional 25% levy on imported cars as part of an aggressive trade policy he says will help boost US manufacturing. That has hit European carmakers. French group Stellantis – whose brands include Jeep, Citroen and Fiat – said on Monday that North American vehicle sales by volume plunged 25% in the second quarter of the year. US and EU diplomats are currently negotiating ahead of the latest deadline set by Trump, with Trump threatening a blanket duty of 30% after Aug 1 if no agreement is reached.

Citi Renews Coverage of Fosun International with a 'Buy' Rating
HONG KONG SAR - Media OutReach Newswire - 25 July 2025 - Citi issued its latest report on 23 July, announcing the renewing coverage on Fosun International ( with a 'Buy' rating and a target price of HKD5.86. Citi has made material changes to its financial estimates on Fosun International, expecting core profit for financial year 2025 to grow by 197% year on year to RMB2.2 billion (excluding the one-off non-cash loss of RMB5.1 billion from Cainiao in financial year 2024). It also expects an 81% year-on-year profit growth in financial year 2026, primarily driven by the earnings recovery at the 'Happiness' segment and lowered finance costs from the Group's proactive deleveraging efforts. Citi also highlights that Fosun is accelerating its 'strategic advancements and exits' strategy, targeting to divest over RMB80 billion in heavy assets and non-core assets. By end of June 2025, Fosun completed the sale of all its 99.743% stake in the German private bank HAL, while retaining the asset servicing business HAFS. Citi believes that the capital recycling from asset divestments will enhance shareholders' returns and narrow the net asset value discount. The report points out that Fosun's current share price trades at a 71% discount to its net asset value. Despite its stock performance outperforming the Hang Seng Index over the past 30 days (+14% vs. +7%), its valuation still has significant room for recovery. Citi is optimistic about Fosun International's future earnings improvement and the re-rating potential brought by its deleveraging strategy, thus assigning a 'Buy' rating to Fosun International.

Volkswagen warns of lower profit after Q2 earnings fall by one-third
FRANKFURT: The Volkswagen Group on Friday reported a sharp decline in second-quarter net profit, weighed down by weak performance at its premium brands Porsche and Audi, high costs from increased US import tariffs, and higher sales of lower-margin electric models, reported German news agency dpa. The German carmaker posted net profit of €2.29 billion (US$2.70 billion), down about a third from a year earlier. Operating profit fell around 29 per cent to €3.83 billion, resulting in an operating margin of 4.7 per cent, in line with analyst expectations. Revenue declined 3 per cent to €80.60 billion, despite slightly higher vehicle deliveries. Volkswagen warned of lower full-year profitability, citing weaknesses at Porsche and Audi as well as tariffs on imports to the United States. President Donald Trump has imposed a 25 per cent levy on auto imports in a bid to boost the domestic industry. Europe's largest carmaker now expects an operating margin of between 4 per cent and 5 per cent, down from a previous forecast of 5.5 per cent to 6.5 per cent. Analysts had already predicted margins below 5 per cent. Chief executive Oliver Blume also trimmed the revenue outlook, now expecting flat sales versus last year rather than growth of up to 5 per cent. — BERNAMA-dpa
