Govt officials in Rewa div to pedal to work every Tuesday
Starting this week, 'Tuesday-Bicycle Day' should be observed across all district headquarters of the division, with officers and staff encouraged to use bicycles instead of personal fuel-powered vehicles. This directive was issued by Rewa division commissioner Babu Singh Jamod and applies to officials in Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli, Maihar, Beohari and Anuppur.
"It will be observed from Aug 5 onwards. However, we are not forcing it; it is voluntary, but we will try and encourage that maximum people follow it.
It has dual benefits, one of being socially responsible and the other is personal health benefits. Cycles have disappeared from homes, and people have lost that habit. Once the cycles are there, apart from one day a week for office, people could also develop the habit of using them, thus improving their health," Jamod told TOI.
In an official communication dated Aug 1, the commissioner cited rising fuel consumption, worsening pollution levels, and growing health concerns as the driving factors behind the move.

"Increasing dependence on personal vehicles is not only impacting fuel reserves and the national economy but also harming air quality and public health. Bicycles offer a sustainable and healthier alternative," the order noted.
Officials who cannot cycle due to distance or health reasons, or the female employees, have been asked to use e-scooters or public transport, while pooling of official vehicles has been suggested for those on field visits, the order said.

TRIBAL MESSIAH WITH ‘MAGICAL' POWERS
1 2 Among tribal people, mainly Santhals, he was a cult figure with 'magical' powers. During the 70s, when tribals were subjected to ruthless exploitation by greedy moneylenders and landlords, he emerged like a messiah for them. He started attacking moneylenders and forcibly started harvesting crops on lands of tribals usurped by "Dikus (outsiders)". The saviour of tribals made them realize that their exploiters were not invincible. The Shibu juggernaut rolled on in Jharkhand and the tribals started believing that their saviour had some supernatural powers and was omnipresent. "Guruji is addressing a rally in Dumka today and he is also addressing rallies at Palajori, Kathikund, Litti Para and other places at the same time... Santhals from rural areas used to say during Jharkhand Diwas rallies on February 2 in Dumka way back in 70s and early 80s. He used to start his address around 7-8pm and continued it till the wee hours of the morning. The tribals listened to his fiery speeches throughout the night," Godai Swarnkar, an old-timer, said. Guruji, as JMM supremo Shibu Soren is affectionately called, had acquired an image like Phantom, the ghost who walks. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Best SIP Plans for NRIs in Netherlands – Get ₹2L Monthly Pension | Invest ₹18K PB Learn More Undo He had himself admitted this once while talking to this reporter. "During my fight against moneylenders, several cases were lodged against me and police had launched massive hunt for me. Suraj and I used to hide in remote villages. I had a motorcycle then and Suraj was my constant companion. When we used to enter villages in the dead of night, people used to think two ghosts had arrived," he had said. He later gifted the bike to his secretay Vinod Pandey. However, he retained his jeep he had used during Jharkhand movement. Suraj Mandal. then a JMM leader who later became a JMM MP, was Shibu's right-hand man during those days. Later, he parted ways with Shibu and slowly faded into oblivion. Soren's life witnessed vicissitudes of fortunes. JMM bribery case, Shashikant Jha murder case, Chirudih massacre case kept haunting him for a long time. But his popularity among tribals remained undiminished. The tribal hero led a spartan lifestyle. He was a teetotaller and a strict vegetarian. "I love sleeping on the floor," he had once said. When asked how he maintains such a mop of wavy hair and a flowing beard, he had said: "I use 'multani mitti' and you people use shampoo. Here lies the difference." He even suggested this reporter to go to nearby Sainthia in West Bengal. "There is a mound of multani mitti just outside Sainthia. Go and collect it," he had said. Guruji had rustic sense of humour and had once made fun of death also. While going for a chopper ride to Masalia, about 40 km from Dumka, to address a poll rally during 2009 assembly polls, Vinod Pandey had suggested this reporter to accompany Guruji on chopper and interview him. Guruji had jokingly said: "The condition of this chopper is bad and it can crash on the way. I am old now and it doesn't matter if I perish in a crash. He is a young man and he should not take the risk." The autumn of the patriarch began in 1995 when his eldest son Durga Soren won the Jama assembly seat. He started calling the shots within the party. He died in 2009. After Durga's death, his younger brother Hemant Soren took over as the successor of Guruji. This led to family feud as Durga's widow Sita Soren was unhappy with Hemant's move. She later joined BJP, but lost Jama assembly polls to JMM Candidate Lois Marandi in 2024 assembly polls. Guruji slowly started to keep himself out of the limelight. On April 15, 2025, Hemant became party president, replacing Shibu. It can be said to be the end of Shibu era in JMM. But Guruji was and will remain the biggest crowd-puller for JMM in days to come. He did not actively campaigned for the party in 2024 assembly polls, but JMM flags with his familiar face and bow and arrow party symbol, kept fluttering in remote areas of the state. JMM formed government in the state later, reminding people that his charisma remained intact.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu sets per capita income target of ₹3.47 lakh by 2025-26
1 2 Vijayawada: Emphasising that governance prioritising "vision, people, nature, and technology" will yield the best results, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu suggested that plans should be prepared with the goal of achieving quality living standards. The chief minister, who took stock of the gross state domestic product (GSDP) status with finance and planning minister P Keshav and senior officials on Monday, said improving the per capita income would enhance people's living standards. He set a target of achieving a per capita income of ₹3,47,871 by the 2025-26 fiscal year and projected a goal of ₹5.42 lakh per capita income by 2029. He reiterated that govt depts must prepare and implement advance plans in their respective sectors. "We should work with vision aligned to short, medium, and long-term goals. We must identify global trends and seize emerging opportunities. Programs should be implemented with a focus on people, society, families, and individuals," he said, and asked the planning dept to work like Niti Aayog and devise the best plans to put Andhra Pradesh on the growth corridor. He asked the officials to take a family as a unit while designing schemes and programs, providing basic needs. Along with welfare schemes, initiatives should be taken to increase their incomes, he observed. He noted that the policies and public mindset should align in a way that benefits the environment. He wanted the natural resources to be preserved while protecting nature. "Waste produced in one industry should become raw material for another, thereby initiating a circular economy," said Naidu. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Beyond Text Generation: An AI Tool That Helps You Write Better Grammarly Install Now Undo He asked officials to integrate the best technologies into governance to provide improved services. "From healthcare to agriculture, technology should become a partner. If we develop vision-centred governance for people, while protecting the environment and integrating technology, we will achieve good results. That's why governance must prioritise people, vision, nature, and technology and work in coordination for the best outcomes," Naidu advised. The CM clarified that along with economic development, providing quality living standards to people of the state is essential. "Andhra Pradesh should become the state with the highest per capita income. Govt depts must work to bring about a better society and better living standards. Study how standards are defined at national and international levels. AP should play a key role in every sector. GVA is the primary factor in mining and agricultural production while GSDP grows only when the govt delivers welfare and development to the people," he said. Chief secretary K Vijayanand and principal secretary (planning) Peeyush Kumar were also present.

Delhi govt forms committees to draft new excise and electric vehicle policies
New Delhi: Delhi govt has constituted two separate ministerial committees to formulate a "transparent and socially secure" excise policy and an "effective and public-centric" electric vehicle policy. These committees will submit their reports to chief minister Rekha Gupta. The committee formed to create the excise policy will be headed by PWD minister Parvesh Verma, while the one on the EV policy will be chaired by home minister Ashish Sood. All other ministers in Gupta's cabinet will be members of both committees. The decision to form the panels was made in the cabinet meeting held last Tuesday, but the information was shared by the govt only this Monday. "Our govt is dedicated to the people of Delhi and is continuously making decisions in the public interest," CM Rekha Gupta said. Gupta earlier formed a committee under the chairmanship of chief secretary Dharmendra to deliberate upon various aspects of the liquor business in Delhi and even prepared a draft of the new policy. However, the govt decided to deliberate more on the issue and postponed the announcement of a new policy by nine months. Delhi govt also extended the current Electric Vehicle Policy until March 31, 2026, or until a new one is officially notified, whichever comes first, a few days ago. The extension was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister. Officials said the govt wanted more time to conduct public consultations before rolling out a revised, future-ready policy. The draft of the new policy is still under discussion and will involve inputs from citizens, industry players, environmental experts, academic institutions, and private stakeholders.
