Fall Out Boy's Joe Trohman Steps Away From Touring for Hand Surgery
In a statement shared on social media Monday (July 7), Trohman explained his decision to take medical leave after years of managing ongoing issues.

'Hey everyone, after years of managing ongoing issues with my right hand, it's become clear that I need surgery to avoid permanent damage,' he wrote. 'Unfortunately, this means I'll have to take the rest of the year off from playing with the band. The silver lining is that I'm on track for a full recovery.'
Trohman assured fans the band's scheduled tour dates will continue as planned. 'I'm looking forward to recovering so that I can get back out there with the guys. Thanks so much for the love and support.'
This marks the second time Trohman has temporarily stepped away from Fall Out Boy in recent years. Back in January 2023, he took an indefinite break to focus on his mental health, telling fans at the time: 'Neil Young once howled that it's better to burn out than to fade away. But I can tell you unequivocally that burning out is dreadful. To avoid fading away and never returning, I'm putting myself and my mental health first.' Trohman returned to the band in May 2023 after several months of recovery.
Fall Out Boy has yet to confirm who will fill in on guitar during Trohman's absence. Their packed schedule includes upcoming performances at Cowboys Music Festival in Calgary (July 8), Minnesota Yacht Club festival in St. Paul (July 19), Summer Sonic in Japan (Aug. 16-17), and three shows in Brazil later that month. Fall Out Boy will wrap up summer festival season at Oceans Calling Festival in Ocean City, Md., on Sept. 28.
Trohman, a founding member of the band since its inception in 2001, is expected to make a full recovery and return to touring in 2026.

No release date or further details have emerged about 'Sugar Sweet,' but assuming the single arrives soon, it'll be the follow-up to 'Type Dangerous,' which just got a remix EP release featuring collaborations with Big Sean, DJ Snake, Method Man and more. Both tracks would likely find a place on Carey's as-yet-untitled 16th studio album. Fortunately for eager fans awaiting Carey's first full-length studio project since 2018, the new album is ready to go when she's ready to reveal it. 'What is next? The album coming out. I don't wanna tell too much about it because I just don't want to reveal the whole thing. It's finished,' she confirmed in an Apple Music interview last month. In that conversation, she also left a hint that 'Sugar Sweet' was on the way, adding that 'a second single is coming soon. I'm very excited about it. It's very summery. I like the beat as well.' Billie Eilish Says Music Industry Started to Become More Eco-Friendly ‘Because We Would Yell at Them'
Billie Eilish has long been leading the charge against the music industry's negative impact on the environment — and in an interview on an upcoming episode of The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper, the singer-songwriter looks back on the positive changes she's been seeing since she started speaking up. In an exclusive clip shared with Billboard from the singer's conversation with CNN Chief Climate Correspondent Bill Weir, Eilish opens up about the culture shock of going from growing up in an eco-conscious household to becoming famous in an industry marked by overabundance and excess. Eilish's mom and fellow climate activist, Maggie Baird, also joins her for the interview. 'We learned how much unbelievable waste is going on that we don't really know is happening.' 'We stepped into this other world, and it was a little bit like, 'Oh my gosh, what is happening here?'' Baird added incredulously. The mother-daughter duo go on to say that the music industry didn't have any sort of 'plan' for minimizing its eco footprint back when Eilish first found fame around 2016 — but now, they say it's changing for the better. 'You would not believe how wasteful this industry is,' the nine-time Grammy winner says in the clip. 'They then started making plans, because we would yell at them. We would demand a plan.' 'I was raised to feel this way, but I think I also have my mom's gene of really caring about the world and animals and not wasting things,' Eilish adds. For years, the musician has been a fierce climate advocate. In addition to working with fashion brands such as Nike and Oscar de la Renta to create vegan designs and partnering with environmental nonprofit REVERB on tour, the star launched her very own climate summit, Overheated, in 2022. She's also been a key player in carrying out the initiatives of Support + Feed, an organization founded by Baird in 2020 with a mission to fight climate change and food insecurity. Eilish and Baird's segment on The Whole Story echoes what both women previously spoke with Billboard about last year. Recalling how 'bleak' it was to take meetings with record label executives who couldn't even speak to their companies' sustainability efforts — or lack thereof — the singer pointed out how wasteful unethically sourced merchandise and album variants can be. 'It is right in front of our faces and people are just getting away with it left and right, and I find it really frustrating as somebody who really goes out of my way to be sustainable and do the best that I can and try to involve everybody in my team in being sustainable,' she said at the time. 'Then it's some of the biggest artists in the world making f–king 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more.' In that same interview with Billboard, Baird praised Universal Music Group for coming 'a long way' in its environmental practices since Eilish signed to them nearly a decade ago. The live music industry has also been making strides, from Lollapalooza implementing a battery-powered hybrid system for its main stage to Coachella debuting a zero-carbon stage in 2025. Eilish is just one of a few musicians featured on the latest installment of The Whole Story, which will premiere at 8 p.m. ET on July 20. Titled 'Change Amplified: Live Music and the Climate Crisis,' the episode will also include first-hand accounts from Bonnie Raitt, Jack Johnson, Perry Farrell and AJR's Adam Met about how they're personally working to revolutionize the music industry's approach to environmentalism. Billie Eilish and James Cameron 3D Collaboration in the Works
A 3D project is underway from Billie Eilish and acclaimed filmmaker James Cameron, the singer announced Saturday night (July 19) in Manchester, England, where she performed the first of a four-show run at the city's Co-Op Live. While details remain under wraps, Eilish let the cat out of the bag to the U.K. crowd as they'll apparently be a component of the release that's in the works. 'You may have noticed there's more cameras than usual here,' she said from the stage Saturday. 'I can't say much about it, but what I can say is I'm working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron, and it's gonna be in 3D.' 'These four shows here in Manchester, you and me, are part of the thing that I am making.' 'And also, I'll probably be wearing this exact outfit for four days in a row,' she said with a laugh. Eilish, currently in the midst of her ongoing Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour, was wearing black-and-blue plaid bottoms and a 'Hard and Soft' jersey. Spanning two years, the world tour in support of her Hit Me Hard and Soft studio album (which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200) began in fall 2024 and runs through November 2025. Several dates were added to the itinerary in May, including the trek's last two nights in San Francisco. Cameron, most recently immersed in the Avatar universe — 2009's Avatar; 2022's Avatar: The Way of Water; 2025's Avatar: Fire and Ash, opening in theaters Dec. 19, plus an upcoming fourth installment expected in 2029 — is a three-time Academy Award winner, notably taking home a trio of Oscars (including best picture and best director) for Titanic in 1998. For Eilish, the presently untitled project — presumably involving live performance footage in some way, based on her Saturday night comments in Manchester — follows the 2021 concert movie Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles.
