Boy, 4, crushed by falling memorial stone in front of his great-grandmother
A four-year-old boy was crushed to death by a falling memorial stone in front of his great-grandmother in a horrific incident as investigators are now examining how he died.
Eli David Testa died in a tragic accident at Rawtenstall Cemetery while he was with his great-grandmother on Saturday July 5. A stone memorial fell on the boy, from Rossendale, Lancashire, and killed him. Little Eli was rushed to the Royal Blackburn Hospital where advanced life support was attempted but he sadly died as a result of his injuries. A CT scan revealed he died from a traumatic head injury.
An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned today at Preston Coroners' Court. Area Coroner Kate Bisset confirmed the police investigation had concluded but that the HSE had been "notified."
The coroner said: "Eli was in a cemetery with his great-grandmother when a stone cross on top of a grave came loose and fell on top of him causing injuries which sadly resulted in his death. An ambulance was called and full advanced life support was started at the scene and he was transported to the hospital.
"Given the nature of the injuries and that there was a known cause of his death at that time he was subject to a post-mortem CT scan [as opposed to a full post-mortem examination]. The cause of death is likely to be recorded as a traumatic head injury. That will be a matter for the coroner at the final hearing.
"Police have confirmed there is no longer any active police investigation. There was no reason to suspect there was any suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement at the time. The HSE have been notified."
The case is due to be mentioned in coroners' court on October 9 in order to assess whether there will be any ongoing proceedings, reported The Manchester Evening News. Tributes have been paid to the youngster, who was praised as being a "bright soul who brought joy in the purest, most magical way," while more than £17,000 has been raised for his family via a GoFundMe campaign.
Rossendale and Darwen MP Andy MacNae said during yesterday's Prime Minister's Questions that would pass his condolences to Eli's parents Jessica and Tommy. The MP said: "Last week four-year-old Eli Testa was killed in Rawtenstall Cemetery when a memorial stone fell on him.
"All of Rossendale was shocked by this tragedy so I hope the Prime Minister will join me in offering our deepest condolences to Eli's parents and family."
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said: "Can I extend my deepest condolences to Eli's friends and family."

A dad has told of the horrific moment he was set on fire at a house party after being doused in lighter fluid and torched. David Owen, 36, was left fighting for his life with severe burns to 16% of his body following the terrifying incident at a flat in Perth, Scotland, on Thursday, July 3. The father-of-one had been enjoying a night out with mates before being invited back to a party, but the night quickly descended into a living nightmare after a brief row turned deadly. David, who admitted he thought he would die, recalled the horror, saying: 'I had a brief argument with someone, but I thought it was resolved. Everything seemed normal. We were chatting, drinking, laughing… then all of a sudden, I was being torched. I must have been doused in something flammable. I went up instantly. It was the most terrifying moment of my life.' In a desperate bid to survive, David hurled himself out of a ground-floor window, landing in agony on the pavement below. He added: "I panicked. I saw the window and just jumped. "I was on fire, running up and down the street, screaming for help, but no one was there. So I threw myself onto the grass and rolled around to try and get the flames out. It was the most agonising thing I've ever gone through.' Locals eventually found David lying badly burned and barely conscious. Paramedics rushed him to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for emergency, life-saving surgery, the Daily Record reports. 'I woke up in hospital and saw the skin melting off my body,' David said. I looked at my reflection on my phone and saw my face — burned and blistered. All I could think about was my wee boy. I didn't want him to see me like that… I didn't want to scare him.' Surgeons had to perform an emergency escharotomy, which requires cutting deep into his throat to open his airways. Graphic photos show the gaping wounds where medics sliced into his neck to save him. David has since been moved to the specialist burns unit at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, where he's endured two major skin graft surgeries. His body is now covered in surgical staples holding his skin together. He said: 'At one point, my body was shutting down. I had to be resuscitated. I was in so much pain, I genuinely thought I was going to die.' 'It's a miracle I'm still here. I'll be scarred for life, mentally and physically. I'm having constant nightmares and flashbacks. I'll never understand why this happened to me.' A man, also aged 36, appeared in Perth Sheriff Court on Monday, July 7, in connection with the alleged attack. He was charged with attempted murder, assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, and endangerment of life. He made no plea and was released on bail. His next court appearance is still to be confirmed. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support David and his devastated family during his long road to recovery. A statement on the website said: "David has suffered life-threatening burns to his chest, back, neck and face,' the fundraising page reads. His skin peeled away. He was placed on a ventilator, fighting for his life. He now faces a slow and painful recovery. 'He has a small child and a partner left traumatised by what happened. A night out turned into a horror story no one could have imagined.'

Firm fined £1m after worker killed in Manchester by reversing HGV

Pastor and wife took $3,400,000 from congregation in scam attributed to God
A pastor and his wife have been busted for a multi-million dollar cryptocurrency scam that they claim 'the Lord' instructed them to do. Eli and Kaitlyn Regalado, who founded the online-only Victorious Grace Church, were indicted by a Denver grand jury on Tuesday for the operation they ran taking advantage of their faith community from January 2022 to July 2023. The Regalados solicited nearly $3.4million from investors to buy INDXcoin, which they created and marketed, according to the Denver District Attorney's Office. They allegedly used their faith-based connections to find investors and promised them 'exorbitant returns', stated the office. In reality, just a small portion of the proceeds went to the business venture, according to the indictment. 'The Regalados spent at least $1.3 million on personal expenditures, including a home renovation that they have allegedly claimed 'the Lord' told them to do,' stated the office. Meanwhile, INDXcoin had no value and investors lost virtually every thing they put into it. The married couple have been indicted on 40 counts of securities fraud, racketeering and theft around the scam. 'These charges mark a major step forward in our work to hold the Regalados accountable for their alleged crimes and to bring a measure of justice to the victims,' stated District Attorney John Walsh. Walsh commended the 'outstanding work' of his investigators and prosecutors and officials from the Colorado Attorney General's Office and Colorado Division of Securities, that led to the indictment. Colorado Securities Commissioner Tung Chan's office in January had alleged that Eli 'took advantage of the trust and faith of his own Christian community and that he peddled outlandish promises of wealth to them when he sold them essentially worthless cryptocurrencies'. But the Regalados argued that INDXcoin was a 'utility coin' to join faith-based communities instead of a security, and for that reason did not need to be licensed or registered. Eli attacked Chan in a YouTube video posted on July 4, 2024. 'You are a liar, liar, liar. I hope you get back in the office after your holiday and you see this and you see what you've done,' said Regalado to Chan. 'Shame on you. You're a crook.' The pastor claimed that they tithed $290,000 to their church and also provided $245,000 to other churches. 'It's our church. Where else are we going to tithe?' Eli said.
