Sophie Ellis Bextor surprises bride and groom as she makes a perfectly timed appearance at their wedding after her hit played while she was in the lobby

Daily Mail2 days ago
Sophie Ellis Bextor put on a surprise performance at a fan's wedding after making a perfectly timed appearance at their reception last week.
In an incredible coincedence, Sophie was out in the lobby when her track was playing inside the wedding so she decided to pay the couple a visit.
The British singer, 46, made the day extra special for the bride and the groom, as she delighted guests in attendance with some of her most iconic tunes.
Sophie started off with her 2001 single Murder On The Dancefloor, a floorfiller that was reprised in 2023 in the raunchy film Saltburn.
A guest in attendance, who also filmed the clip, revealed: 'It was my sister's wedding, it was all such a coincidence that the band started playing Murder On The Dancefloor while Sophie was out in the lobby.
'She was so kind and really topped off such a special day for the bride and groom and all of the guests.'
The video was shared by the guest on TikTok with a caption reading: 'Best wedding crasher ever.'

Meanwhile fans were sent into overdrive by Sophie's unexpected appearance and praised her in the comment section, penning:
'Very cool. Good on her as well for this'; 'Brilliant' 'Didn't realise it was her till the glasses came off'; 'Funn'; 'You have to love that woman! Go Sophie'; 'This is amazing'; 'Insane'.
Sophie's epic wedding crash comes after the pop chart-topper addressed the 'gloomy chapter' of perimenopause and the narrative that women should become 'quiet and invisible' with her new album Perimenopop.
The singer was just 21 when she first soared to fame with her first number one hit, Groovejet (If This Ain't Love) with Spiller in 2000, going on to become a household name.
25 years later, the star is set to release her latest offering which she, in a new interview with Good Housekeeping UK, claims dispels the notion that pop music is for 'young people' and instead mocks that apparent 'gloomy chapter' women face in their later years.
Perimonpop is being touted as a 'a playful celebration of where Sophie is at in her life, knowing exactly who she is and embracing the joy and empowerment that brings'.

And speaking to the publication about her album inspiration, Sophie echoed those sentiments as she shared: 'There's still this idea that only young people make pop music. As soon as I had the new album title, I felt like, "Now I can literally be myself."
'This album is about poking fun at this gloomy chapter and the narrative around it that women should be quietening down and becoming invisible… I don't feel like that at all.'
Sophie has had somewhat of a career resurgence of late, with her 2001 track Murder On The Dancefloor gaining new popularity after it was used by filmmaker Emerald Fennell for the one-shot finale of her award-winning 2023 movie Saltburn.
A single camera tracks actor Barry Keoghan as he dances to the track in the nude while walking the corridors of his newly inherited stately home - a memorable scene that introduced Sophie to a younger fanbase and helped push it back into the charts with a number two placement, her first top ten hit since 2007.
She said of the track going viral: 'I was at home over Christmas when things started escalating online. The whole thing was glorious. And it wasn't just great for me, but for my whole team. We'd had a busy 2023, so we were match-fit. We could just pick up the pace.'

Love Island fans rage over Megan's shock return as they raise concerns for 'emotionally drained' Shakira and urge 'where's the mental health team?'

Love Island fans shared their fury on X over Megan Forte Clarke's shock return to the villa during Wednesday night's episode. Viewers expressed it was 'unfair' Megan and Blu Chegini were given a second shot in the villa. Blu was the second islander to be eliminated from the ITV show, while Megan was dramatically dumped shortly after by the public. Strictly Come Dancing star is forced to pull out of live show hours before taking to the stage

Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara revealed she has been forced to pull out of a live show just hours before taking to the stage on Wednesday. The professional dancer is currently starring in the UK tour of Chicago and was due to perform at Blackpool's Winter Gardens. But taking to Instagram to share a statement, Janette apologised to fans as she revealed she was 'unwell' and unable to perform. She wrote: 'It takes a lot for me to miss a show, so to anyone coming to Blackpool tonight, I am deeply sorry. 'I am unwell and must rest to recover quickly and be back on stage. 'The cast is absolutely phenomenal so the show will be as magical as it always is. 'I'm on the mend now and hoping to be back ASAP. Love you all, Jxxx.' She told the Blackpool Gazette: 'Blackpool's one of my favourite places in the UK. We go there every year with Strictly and it always lands around my birthday, so I've celebrated more birthdays there than anywhere else. 'Normally, I'm here in November, so to explore it in July is a real treat. I definitely want to take the cast to the Tower for afternoon tea and a dance. 'I've told them they have to see the ballroom with the big organ.' It comes after Janette opened up about her 'struggles' over being away from daughter Lyra and said she had 'never wanted to be home more' amid her 'manic' schedule. The It Takes Two host, who shares the two-year-old with husband and fellow show dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, 35, has been busy hosting Strictly's Live tour, starring in a production of musical Chicago and will soon embark on a string of shows with her husband. Speaking about her worries she told The Mirror: 'So it was more about Lyra. Is she going to be okay? Is she going to be at home? Is she going to be with Aljaz? What's the plan with Lyra?'. 'Although I am still doing those things, I have had to really kind of consider the schedule and while this year is manic, I've never wanted to be home more now she's in my life. I want to be home now more than ever'. Janette also said she had her 'fingers crossed' to return as host of the Strictly spin-off alongside Fleur East as the job gave her more time at home, while Aljaz rehearsed with his celeb partner. She told the publication: 'If I'm back, I'll have It Takes Two two or three days a week and then the rest of the time I can be at home with Lyra. That's like my time to be mummy!''. Last month Janette wiped away tears in an emotional Instagram post, as she prepared to bid farewell to her husband and their daughter. She joined the touring cast for the musical Chicago and was heading to Ireland for a string of shows, after her performances at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, Janette then headed to Belfast for shows at the Grand Opera House. The star had previously shared that she won't see Aljaz or Lyra for those two weeks, and instead they're planning to spend time with his family in Slovenia. In a video posted on her Instagram Stories, Janette revealed she had bid farewell to her family ahead of her tour shows, and shared a message for other working parents. She said: 'Hi gang. Just said my goodbyes to Aljaž and Lyra, and I won't see them for two weeks now but sharing is good because it makes us all feel better. 'And I miss them a lot. It's the longest I'll be away from Lyra so just starting to count down to the day I see her again.' 'But in the mean time, I'm gonna stay strong and know that mommy is making her proud. And she is gonna have the best time with her cousins and her nan in Slovenia. 'Anyways, to all the parents that have to say goodbye to their kids for work or for whatever reason, it's always tough but we've got this! We've got it.' Alongside the clip, Janette shared another message for her followers, writing: 'It always makes me feel better to share. Hope this also helps other working parents out there. It's hard but we got this.'

Inter Alia review – Rosamund Pike rules in searing legal drama from Prima Facie team

Three years ago, playwright Suzie Miller gave Jodie Comer a career-defining role with her West End debut in Prima Facie. Rosamund Pike's stage CV already has plenty of highs, from Hitchcock Blonde to Hedda Gabler, but her performance in Miller's follow-up play has been keenly anticipated, given that it reunites some of the team that made Prima Facie a smash hit. This is an almost deliberate counterpoint to Prima Facie, in which a defence lawyer, expert at playing the system to demolish rape charges against her clients, is undone by her own experience of sexual assault. Miller wanted to highlight how poorly the law serves victims, and Inter Alia presents the same issue from the flipside with a female judge, determined to make the system more just, whose world is upended by an accusation close to home. Jessica Parks (Pike) is the kind of multi-skilled woman you just know the legal system needs more of. She brings humanity and compassion to her courtroom, employing her soft skills to protect vulnerable witnesses while cutting down cocky male counsel with a tone that can 'cut through tendons and bone'. But she's not just a crown court judge, she's also an expert juggler, in the way that high-achieving women so often need to be. Her career exists 'inter alia' – as Miller puts it, in the cracks of everyone else's lives. All the hallmarks of Justin Martin's pulsating direction are here, from the onstage guitar and drums ratcheting up the tension to Pike's physical, occasionally anarchic performance. She is in constant motion, wearing many different outfits – karaoke queen, sexy wife, Marigold-clad dishwasher and laundrywoman – and Miriam Buether's set combines with Natasha Chivers' lighting to capture the dissolution of boundaries between the courtroom and home. 'You live like you work, everything done at speed,' a friend tells Jessica: it may sound like a badge of honour, but it's also an indictment of the society that requires it of her. The term 'emotional labour' is never used but is certainly present: while Jessica prepares a dinner party for 16, her husband Michael's only responsibility is the cheese. He has it delivered. This is not a solo show: Jamie Glover provides the marital tension as Michael, who has been beaten by his wife to both KC and the bench. Harry, their 18-year-old son, mooches about almost silently, alternating, in Jasper Talbot's portrayal, between sensitive, sulky and comically drunk. But what begin as peripheral figures – to be organised, loved and cared for – are given vital voices of their own as the narrative progresses. Jessica remains the moral and emotional centre: her tragedy unfolds like that of an Ibsen protagonist failed by those around them. As a mother she has done the best she can, both to shield her child from bullies and to raise him true to her feminist beliefs (there's a very funny scene where they have the porn talk). But she can't protect him from social media, or peer pressure or, in the end, himself. As a lawyer turned playwright, Miller's work has an ingrained advocacy – for years, she has used it to argue for social and legal justice. And one of the rare objections to Prima Facie's script – the way its didactic dialogue impinged on the drama – could be upheld here. Determined to give every issue and angle a fair hearing, Inter Alia sheds its nimbleness and wit as it grapples with the serious stuff in its later stages, meaning the pace slows even as the confrontations become more heightened. As the set darkens and Jessica becomes literally lost in the woods, there's a sense that we're all groping, a little blindly, towards an ending, even Pike. But the production remains a searing commentary on the justice system and a purposefully uncomfortable insight into contemporary parenting. Prima Facie remains as relevant as it was three years ago – a UK tour, with a returning Comer, has been announced for 2026 – and this is an ideal companion piece. At the Lyttelton theatre, National Theatre, London, until 13 September. In cinemas from 4 September.
