The Rajya Sabha also announced the resignation of Dhankhar in the House on Tuesday, shortly before adjourning till 2 pm amid opposition sloganeering.
Deputy Chairman, Harivansh Narayan Singh announced that Ministry of Home Affairs has, wide it's notification, conveyed resignation of Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar under 67A of the Constitution with immediate effect.
In a sudden move, Dhankhar had on Monday evening resigned from his post citing medical reasons. In his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu, Dhankhar said he was stepping down with immediate effect to "prioritise health care."
"To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution," he said in the letter to the President.
"I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency - the Hon'ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure," it added.
The Vice President also expressed his deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the the Council of Ministers. "Prime Minister's cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office," he said.

Neemuch: A massive transformation is underway in the villages of Neemuch district, Madhya Pradesh, as the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continues to provide life-saving healthcare to the most economically vulnerable. Known as the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), this flagship initiative of the Central government has become a beacon of hope for families who once struggled with the burden of high medical expenses. Introduced in September 2018, the Ayushman Bharat scheme is the world's largest government-funded health insurance programme. It offers each eligible family an annual cashless healthcare cover of up to Rs 5 lakh, covering a wide range of treatments including diagnostics, secondary and tertiary care, surgeries, and even ICU stays at empanelled hospitals across India. Its goal -- to bring quality healthcare within reach of nearly 50 crore Indians. In Neemuch's villages -- especially Ummedpura and Medhki -- the scheme has changed lives. People who once had no means to afford expensive operations have now received advanced treatments completely free of cost. The stories of transformation are many, and each one speaks of survival, dignity, and renewed hope. Rajaram Bairagi, a small grocery shop owner from Medhki village, recalls the frightening days of 2020 when he suffered a heart attack during the COVID pandemic. With no financial resources to afford a costly surgery, his family was in despair. However, through the Ayushman Bharat card, he received treatment at a hospital in Ahmedabad, where his surgery—initially estimated to cost around Rs 1.5 lakh—was performed entirely free. 'This card gave me a new life. I will always be thankful to Modi ji for starting this scheme,' he told IANS. Dilip Kumar Piriya, a furniture shop owner from Ummedpura, shared a similar experience. He suffered from intense arm pain in 2019, and medical tests revealed four critical blockages in his heart. Doctors recommended an urgent bypass surgery that would cost upwards of Rs 4.5 lakh. With no means to bear the cost, Dilip turned to the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Within a month, his surgery was conducted without any financial burden. 'It saved my life,' he said. 'There was no way I could have arranged such a huge amount. This scheme brought hope to my entire family,' he added. Farmers Labhachand Dhakad and Raghunath Singh Panwar also benefitted. Labhachand underwent a free angioplasty, while Raghunath received treatment for kidney stones that had caused him extreme pain. In both cases, families were spared from crippling medical debt. In Ummedpura, nearly 1,943 residents out of a total population of 2,508 now hold Ayushman cards. According to local officials, dozens of villagers have received free treatment for heart diseases and other serious conditions through this scheme. Artisans like Ashok Kumar Chhipa, who specialises in traditional Bandhej work, have also availed free angioplasty under the programme. For families who once faced the grim choice between incurring debt or forgoing treatment, Ayushman Bharat has become more than just a health insurance scheme -- it is a lifeline. In village after village, the stories echo a single truth: access to healthcare is no longer a privilege reserved for the few. Thanks to Ayushman Bharat, it is becoming a right for all. As India moves forward with digital health missions and universal care ambitions, the success stories from Neemuch stand as powerful proof that well-implemented policy can bring real change to even the remotest corners of the country.

Extension of free legal advice helpline service subject to review: Union Minister
New Delhi: A review will be conducted before deciding to extend beyond March 2026 a pan-India scheme which has helped 2.10 crore people access justice between 2021and June 30 this year through services like free litigation advice helpline, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal, in a written reply, said that the 'Designing Innovative Solutions for Holistic Access to Justice India' (DISHA) scheme is approved for 2021-26. 'In order to continue the scheme beyond March 31, 2026, during the next Finance Commission Cycle, the scheme is required to undergo an appraisal and approval process based on an outcome review,' said Meghwal. He said the DISHA scheme provides easy, accessible, affordable and citizen-centric legal services through its components - Tele-Law, Nyaya Bandhu (Pro Bono Legal Services) and Legal Literacy and Legal awareness programmes and does not involve disposal of pending cases. The Tele-Law connects citizens with lawyers through video conferencing facilities and a mobile app 'Tele-Law' and also through Toll toll-free number for rendering pre-litigation advice. Toll-free number for citizens through 14454 has been operationalised for instant advice and counselling. The Nyaya Bandhu (Pro Bono legal services) enables seamless connection through the Nyaya Bandhu Application (available on Android/IOS) between the interested Pro Bono Advocates and registered beneficiaries, who are entitled to free legal aid under Section 12 of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. The third component of DISHA is the Legal Literacy and Legal Awareness programme, through which the beneficiaries are sensitised about their rights, duties, and entitlements. He said that till June 30, 2025 DISHA Scheme, through its various programmes, has reached approximately 2.10 crore beneficiaries in the country. In order to broaden and strengthen the outreach of the services to the citizens, various measures have been undertaken, the MoS said. He said to enhance the outreach, the Tele-Law web portal and Tele-Law application have been translated into 22 scheduled languages. Special endeavours have also been made to increase its outreach through both print and digital media. Meghwal said special efforts have been made to integrate Tele-Law with the Nyaya Bandhu (Pro bono Legal Services) platform for pre-litigation advice and legal representation of the beneficiaries. Under a collaboration with Doordarshan, 56 legal awareness TV programmes were developed in 6 languages, which were aired, and the videos were disseminated through YouTube and channel of Doordarshan reaching out to over 70.70 lakh citizens. In addition, 20 thematic legal awareness webinars have also been organised from September 2021 to October 2023 on socio-legal issues, he said.

Operation Sindoor: India's actions were measured, non-escalatory, govt tells Parliament
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to a 'barbaric' attack by 'Pakistan-sponsored terrorists', and the action focussed on dismantling terror infrastructure and neutralising terrorists likely to be sent across to India, the government said on Thursday. In a written response to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Minster of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh also said India's actions were 'focussed, measured and non-escalatory'. The Ministry of External Affairs was asked whether it is a fact that Operation Sindoor was 'announced under international pressure', and the 'factual position' in this regard. Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman also asked about the impact of 'sudden announcement of ceasefire in Operation Sindoor' on the morale of the Indian forces which were 'achieving significant success', but suddenly 'declaring ceasefire was against their morale and the sentiments of the people of the country'. Union minister Singh said Operation Sindoor was launched to respond to a 'barbaric cross-border terror attack by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. It focussed on dismantling terrorist infrastructure and neutralising terrorists likely to be sent across to India'. Pakistan, however, attempted targeting Indian civilian areas, in addition to some military facilities, he said. 'These provocations and escalatory actions by Pakistan were met with a strong and decisive response from the Indian armed forces, inflicting significant damage on the Pakistani military. Subsequently, on 10 May, 2025, the Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan approached his Indian counterpart to request for cessation of firing and military activities, which was agreed to later that day,' the MoS said. Under Operation Sindoor, India had decimated nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7 in pre-dawn precision strikes. It was carried out to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror strike. In a separate query, the MEA was also asked whether the ministry had taken efforts to 'alienate' Pakistan on world forum. As part of the UN Security Council's routine annual process, the Chairs and Vice- Chairs of its subsidiary bodies and committees are selected from amongst its permanent and elected non-permanent members. In addition to Russia and France, Pakistan has been selected as one of the Vice-Chairs of the UN Counter Terrorism Committee for 2025, Singh said. It may be noted that India was the Chair of the UN Counter Terrorism Committee in 2022. Similarly, India was also the Chair of the same committee during its 2011-12 term, the MoS added. 'The Government of India has been sensitising all concerned interlocutors on the menace of cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan. Due to India's persistent efforts, the global community has a greater understanding of India's concerns on cross-border terrorism,' he said. India's efforts over the years have led to listing of several Pakistan-based terrorists and terrorist entities under the UNSC 1267 Sanctions Committee and the FATF (Financial Action Task Force) 'grey listing of Pakistan', the minister said. The UNSC press statement in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack also 'strongly condemned' the terror attack and acknowledged the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers, sponsors and financiers of the attack accountable, he said. Several world leaders have recognised and supported India's actions to combat terrorism following the Pahalgam attack. Most recently, the US has designated The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba, as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, he said.
