Molex Collaborates with Prusa Research to Scale Rapid Growth Trajectory for 3D-Printing Pioneer
Guided by a steadfast commitment to community, sustainability, as well as open-source hardware and software principles, Prusa offers its printers fully assembled or as Do It Yourself (DIY) printer kits. Equally important is the ability for customers to unlock new capabilities over time through hardware and software modifications, add-ons and upgrades.
'Prusa Research needed connectivity systems with the right balance of functionality and simplicity without compromising quality,' said Brian Hauge, SVP and president, Consumer and Commercial Solutions, Molex. 'With support from Arrow Electronics, we provide a full portfolio of connectors that are robust yet easy to use. Molex also stays in lockstep with Arrow and Prusa engineers to align emerging printer designs with new innovative connector solutions to ease new product introductions and upgrades.'
Rapid Growth Trajectory
Prusa's unwavering customer focus, passion for community and strong technology partnerships are cornerstones for driving a sustained rate of incredible growth. The company processed more than 300,000 orders for printers, filaments, resins and accessories last year while opening a U.S. subsidiary called Printed Solid, in Newark, Del., to further expand global reach by manufacturing printers and filaments in the United States.
'In 2024, Prusa grew 25% year over year, and we are excited for this year, which will be even bigger,' said Josef Prusa, CEO of Prusa Research. 'We populated over one million parts using Molex CLIK-Mate connectors last year and they all have performed very well. We now have more than 20 printer designs, and they all use Molex connectors. Looking ahead, we will continue to work with Arrow and Molex to drive our further expansion in Europe while building out manufacturing capabilities in the U.S.'
To drive sustained growth, Prusa deployed Molex CLIK-Mate wire-to-board connectors, which align well with the company's high standards for performance and straightforward operation. Ideal for devices that require connectors to carry more signal lines in less space, these wire-to-board connectors feature a unique tuning-fork terminal design that provides low-insertion force while maintaining secure contacts.
Prusa particularly appreciates the audible 'click' sound that offers immediate confirmation of secure contact, as well as easy automatic board placement and simplified set-up for at-home customers. Not only do CLIK-Mate connectors prevent DIY users from inserting them in the wrong orientation, but they also enable Prusa engineers to streamline production by speeding surface mount technology (SMT) line assembly.
Compact, high-performance Molex Micro-Fit Connectors, which blend power and flexibility without impacting space or reliability, also are deployed by Prusa. In addition, Molex ultra-microcoaxial RF connectors are used to link Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectors, along with other Molex solutions for supporting high-speed data and RF microwave technology.
Up to 16 types of CLIK-Mate connectors currently help Prusa streamline printer production. Molex connectors are featured across Prusa's printer line, including the new CORE One printer, which hit the market this past January. Other connectivity solutions, such as Molex's Easy-On FFC/FPC Connectors, as well as custom connectivity solutions, are being explored to enhance support for existing and new printers.

Space capsule carrying ashes of 166 people — and cannabis seeds — lost after crashing into Pacific Ocean
A space capsule carrying the ashes of more than 160 people — and a stash of cannabis seeds — was lost when it crashed into the Pacific Ocean after two orbits around the Earth. The Exploration Company (TEC), a German start-up, launched the Nyx capsule's 'Mission Possible' on June 23. Its precious cargo included the remains of 166 people, whose ashes were sent into orbit through Celestis, a Texas-based space burial company. While the departed souls had smooth sailing for two successful orbits around Earth, 'an anomaly occurred, and the vehicle was lost shortly after re-entry,' Celestis co-founder and CEO Charles M. Chafer, wrote on its website. 'The root cause is under investigation, resulting in the Nyx capsule impacting the Pacific Ocean and dispersing its contents at sea,' he added. 'As a result of this unforeseen event, we believe that we will not be able to recover or return the flight capsules aboard.' 3 The Nyx shuttle, launched by The Exploration Company, crashed into the Pacific Ocean, losing the remains for more than 166 people — and a stash of cannabis seeds. Space X TEC said the capsule was 'launched successfully, powered the payloads nominally in-orbit, stabilized itself after separation with the launcher, re-entered and re-established communication after black out,' it wrote on LinkedIn. When the capsule returned to Earth's orbit, the company suddenly 'lost communication' with it 'a few minutes before splash down,' it added. The materials on board the capsule have not been recovered since its crash landing in the Pacific, the company confirmed. 3 The precious cargo was sent into orbit through Celestis, a Texas-based space burial company. Space X 'We apologize to all our clients who entrusted us with their payloads.' Chafer said Celestis shares 'in the disappointment of our families, and we offer our sincerest gratitude for their trust.' 'While there were many successful milestones achieved — launch, orbit, and controlled reentry — this was the first Celestis mission designed to return from orbit, and we recognize the bravery and ambition it required from all involved. We also recognize that no technical achievement replaces the profound personal meaning this service holds for our families,' he added. 3 All the cargo was lost at sea. The Exploration Company The ashes were lost alongside a collection of cannabis plant matter and seeds, Popular Mechanics reported. The plant was contributed by the citizen science project Martian Grow that seeks to 'make science free again' and ultimately farm cannabis on Mars, according to its website. TEC has only sent one other capsule to space before Nyx, according to its website. 'We have been pushing boundaries in record time and cost. This partial success reflects both ambition and the inherent risks of innovation. Leveraging the technical milestones achieved yesterday and the lessons we will extract from our ongoing investigation, we will then prepare to re-fly as soon as possible,' TEC assured. Chafer said Celestis was in contact with the families 'to offer support and discuss possible next steps' — and hoped they would 'find some peace in knowing their loved ones were part of a historic journey, launched into space, orbited Earth, and are now resting in the vastness of the Pacific, akin to a traditional and honored sea scattering. 'We remain committed to serving with transparency, compassion, and care.'

Analyst resets Datadog stock price target after surprise addition to S&P 500
Shares of Datadog (DDOG) surged nearly 15% to $155.15 on July 3 after S&P Global said the monitoring software provider will be included in the S&P 500 U.S. stock index, effective before the market opens on July 9. The move surprised some investors, who had expected names like Robinhood (HOOD) or AppLovin (APP) to be next in line. Datadog will replace Juniper Networks (JNPR) , which was just acquired by Hewlett-Packard Enterprise Co. (HPE) . The S&P 500 is a stock index that tracks the performance of 500 of the leading publicly traded companies in the U.S., serving as a key benchmark for the overall health of the U.S. economy. Tech firms now make up a major share of the index and have an important impact on its movements. Stocks could likely rally after being added to a major index like the S&P 500 because of increased demand from institutional investors, especially passive index funds. DoorDash (DASH) joined the index in March and has risen 20% since. Palantir (PLTR) , which was added last September, has jumped more than 250% since joining. Datadog has lagged behind the broader tech sector this year, falling 5.5% through July 2, while the Nasdaq has gained 5.6%. The stock also underperformed the Nasdaq Composite Index in 2024. The company raised its full-year revenue forecast to between $3.22 billion and $3.24 billion, up from its previous range of $3.18 billion to $3.20 billion. Wall Street had been looking for around $3.20 billion, according to LSEG data pulled by Reuters. Datadog also gave a second-quarter revenue outlook that topped expectations. Its next earnings report is expected in early August. Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives raised the firm's price target on Datadog to $170 from $140 and reiterated an outperform rating following the news, citing "incremental confidence in the company to capitalize on its observability initiatives over the coming years." Ives said Datadog's platform "continues to gain momentum within the observability space, especially with AI front and center." He expects the company to gain more market share with elevated usage for its AI cohort across its enterprise customers.
