Sharjah Police organises Int'l Day Against Drug Abuse Forum
Brigadier General Majid Sultan Al Asm, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at Sharjah Police, confirmed that the department's efforts in 2024 resulted in the seizure of 373 drug-related cases and the arrest of 680 suspects who were referred to the judiciary. Additionally, 1,240 kilograms of narcotic substances were confiscated, with an estimated market value of around AED 279 million. Furthermore, 680 websites promoting drugs were blocked.

Al Asm stressed that combating drugs is not solely the responsibility of security agencies, but also involves families and parents as the first line of defense in protecting their children. He emphasised the importance of dialogue and emotional support in building a safe future for youth.

He emphasised that the Sharjah government has dedicated significant resources to the enhancement of customs ports, equipping them with state-of-the-art capabilities and technologies. Furthermore, he highlighted the government's commitment to the training and qualification of national cadres, ensuring their ongoing professional development. He commended the efforts of those employed in the customs sector, who, he observed, continue to work tirelessly to safeguard the nation.

Sharjah Police announced it seized more than 1,200 kg of narcotics worth more than AED 279 million and arrested 680 suspects in 2024. He explained that coordination with relevant authorities has yielded tangible results in 2024, with the effectiveness of Sharjah Police General Command's efforts in combating drugs reaching 91.2 per cent, according to reports from the Department of Statistics and Community Development. Colonel Al-Asam called on young people to "adhere to their values and capabilities and to avoid such destructive behaviors," emphasizing that combating drugs begins with awareness.
