New York Jets place former FSU star on PUP list

Achilles who?😂😂😂 All Glory to God man fr. Blessed is an understatement!!🙏🏾💯. The New York Jets have placed edge Jermaine Johnson on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. He will be able to attend meetings and use the team facilities, but is not allowed to practice while on the PUP List and he can be activated at any point once he is ready. Johnson is recovering from a torn Achilles that he suffered on Sept. 15 in their game against the Tennessee Titans. He took to social media to share that his recovery is going well and they "want to move slow." "I will be on PUP because the team wants to move slow to be safe, which I agree with. Not because I'm not ready. All is well," he wrote. He is entering his fourth year with the Jets after they took him with the 26th overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft. He made the 2023 Pro Bowl after making 55 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, defending seven passes, and returning one interception for a touchdown. He has played in 33 games and made 19 starts, recording 88 tackles, 10.0 sacks, 15.0 tackles for loss, and 21 quarterback hits. He also shared a video of himself working out on the field, where he was able to run and execute some drills. 9 New York Giants most likely to be involved in a training camp fight

The New York Giants will officially report for training camp on Tuesday, with their first full practice scheduled to get underway on Wednesday. From there, it's full steam ahead to cutdown down and the 2025 regular season. In addition to their usual camp practices, the Giants will also hold two joint sessions with the New York Jets in mid-August ahead of their preseason clash. One practice will be held in East Rutherford and the other in Florham Park. For the Giants, these will be the dog days of summer. And per usual, you can expect tempers to flare. Training camp is often the home to some fights, especially during joint practices, and 2025 promises to be no different. Here's a look at nine Giants players likely to be involved in a training camp fight (in no particular order). Dexter Lawrence Dexter Lawrence is a menace in the middle of the defense, and if he's taking a full slate of reps at camp, it's only a matter of time before his physical dominance and relentless trash talk get under someone's skin. Throw in 90-100 degree temperatures, and it's the perfect mixture for an altercation. The only remaining question is, who would dare want to throw down with Sexy Dexy? Cam Skattebo Assuming Cam Skattebo makes his return to the field as a full participant in camp, there's little doubt that the rookie's physical running style will rub some the wrong way. He also isn't one to shy away from an altercation, especially considering he has a chip on his shoulder and a desire to prove he belongs. James Hudson If we were to provide some betting odds, James Hudson would likely be among the favorites (even in this nine-player group) to engage in a training camp fight. Hudson already got into it with linebacker Brian Burns, who we'll discuss in a moment, during organized team activities (OTAs), and then back in 2023 with the Cleveland Browns, he threw hands with defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo. Kayvon Thibodeaux Speaking of that fight at OTAs, Kayvon Thibodeaux was front and center. He exchanged blows with offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor, who had his helmet ripped off, and is no stranger to trash talk. Thibs and former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant engaged in a prolonged war of words this offseason, and when you throw in soaring temperatures, you can bet things will get tense. Brian Burns And now we circle back around to Brian Burns, who ran in from the sidelines to tackle Hudson in the aforementioned fight during OTAs. He was also on the field during several heated moments in 2024 when the Giants and Detroit Lions held joint practices -- ones that involved then-Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. Greg Van Roten Offensive linemen are often center stage when fights break out, and on some levels, Greg Van Roten is no different. His physicality frustrated several Lions during their joint practices a year ago, and it was the cheap shot he took that really set things off. The veteran guard may not be out there looking to cause chaos, but he's not going to dial things back, either. Van Roten is a potential catalyst. Malik Nabers It's highly unlikely that Malik Nabers will get into it with one of his own teammates, especially given his importance to the offense. However, when the Giants and New York Jets meet for joint practices, all bets are off. Nabers engaged with Lions cornerback Kerby Joseph last season, setting off a string of massive brawls that resulted in both organizations enduring heavy fines. Theo Johnson/Abdul Carter This is strictly an in-house situation that encompasses two players, filling one spot. Theo Johnson and Abdul Carter are intense athletes who have a history dating back to their days at Penn State. Although the pair has a mutual respect for one another, both admit there is some "unfinished business" that needs to be settled. Nothing will start maliciously, but there is at least some small chance things escelate between these two. Jermaine Eluemunor Jermaine Eluemunor isn't backing down from anyone. He may seem like a gentle giant on social media, but as we mentioned earlier, he doesn't shy away from on-field scraps. He engaged with Thibodeaux during OTAs and regularly plays through the whistle. If he's shutting down an edge rusher consistently in hot weather, things are going to get testy.

Jets' Sauce Gardner disrespected in ESPNs CB rankings

The New York Jets made Sauce Gardner the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history this week. General manager Darren Mougey inked Gardner to a four-year extension worth $120.4 million. The All-Pro CB will earn a league-leading $30.1 million on average per season. Coincidentally, ESPN released their cornerback position rankings after Gardner signed his extension. The list is the result of composite rankings, concluded by polling more than 70 anonymous coaches, executives, and scouts around the league. Gardner was arguably disrespected, coming in at No. 5, behind Pat Surtain II, Derek Stingley Jr., Denzel Ward, and Trent McDuffie. Gardner should have earned a top-three spot alongside Surtain II and Stingley Jr. "Gardner remains one of the more polarizing players in the league," ESPNs Jeremy Fowler summarized. "He reached superstardom as a rookie, wasting no time entering the conversation for the NFL's best cornerback. He made back-to-back All-Pro teams from 2022-23, but some evaluators have had problems with his play for the past two seasons." "Needs a bounce-back year in 2025," a veteran AFC personnel staffer said. "Lots of missed tackles and penalties and didn't make many plays last year. Too much, too soon and thought the NFL was easy." Gardner's Pro Football Focus defensive grade of 70.2 in 2024 was significantly lower than his 2022 (87.9) and 2023 (88.6) grades. PFF credited him with allowing 25 receptions on 47 targets for 391 yards and one touchdown. Those are stellar numbers for a cornerback tasked with covering No. 1 receivers every single week. Gardner was whistled with 10 penalties and 10 missed tackles. "The Jets are hoping their new defense, with coach Aaron Glenn and coordinator Steve Wilks asking him to play more man coverage, will bring out his best," Fowler concluded. "He'll be asked to do a lot after signing a four-year, $120.4-million extension this week." It'll be worth monitoring Gardner's usage and production in Glenn's defense this season. The league clearly believes he needs a bounce-back year to fully reform his reputation. The full top-10 cornerback rankings can be found below: 10. Seahawks CB Devon Witherspoon 9. Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell 8. Bears CB Jaylon Johnson 7. Panthers CB Jaycee Horn 6. Patriots CB Christian Gonzalez 5. Jets CB Sauce Gardner 4. Chiefs CB Trent McDuffie 3. Browns CB Denzel Ward 2. Texans CB Derek Stingley Jr. 1. Broncos CB Patrick Surtain II This article originally appeared on Jets Wire: ESPN: Jets' Sauce Gardner disrespected in positional rankings list
