Brendan Rodgers granted Celtic transfer control by one striker with 'dream' on hold

There is set to be major turnover in the Hoops' squad this summer
Johnny Kenny has been on the books at Parkhead for nearly four years but it's only now he truly feels like a Celtic player.
And he'd like to keep it that way. The Irish youngster was snapped up by the Hoops from Sligo Rovers in January 2022 but spent most of his time away from the club on loan spells with Queen's Park and then Shamrock Rovers.
Kenny returned to the fold in January this year and got a taste in the second half of the season with his first start at Aberdeen under his belt – where he bagged his first goal.
There was also an appearance from the bench in the Scottish Cup Final and the 22-year-old is now hungry for more. Kenny knows competition is already fierce at Parkhead and it will be even more so with Brendan Rodgers promising to add more punch to his frontline.
The boss admitted there are a host of clubs lining up to land the hitman on another loan spell. But Kenny is hoping to stick around this time – and he is adamant he's ready to step into the first team picture with Celts.
He said: 'Yes, my dream is to represent this club on a daily basis and play so many games for this club.
'I hope I can break in and get opportunities to do that because that's all I want to do. It's such a big club and I want to be part of it.'
Kenny was lethal with Shamrock Rovers and made his mark in the Europa League. But he also believes his game came on leaps and bounds at Celtic in the last six months – with Rodgers playing a huge part.
The Hoops manager has high hopes for Kenny and the striker is determined to prove him right.
When asked if he's ready to be a full-time Celt, he said: 'Yes, 100 percent. I came in, learned my trade the last few months, learned the system in and out of possession and I feel like I'm ready to kick on now.
'Hopefully, I get the opportunity to do that. My confidence is high at the moment and I think that comes from the manager.
'The Aberdeen game I started, he spoke to me beforehand and gave me the confidence to go out on the pitch and be confident, get a goal and perform.
'That's what happened on the night. As I said, since I came back, the manager – the way he spoke to me in front of the group and individually – it's just been amazing.
'I think it's all down to him. And I hope to get opportunities to repay him.'
Kenny is competing with countryman Adam Idah to lead the line – but he's thrilled to have his Irish pal on board.
Idah is ready to return to action after sitting out the first couple of friendlies on the back of his international involvement in June.
The pair might be in competition buy Kenny is determined to learn as much as he can from the frontman – and hopefully follow his path to the Ireland national team.
He said: 'Adam's brilliant, a countryman and you can see how well he's done since he came in over the last 18-months.
'He's always trying to help, whether it's me or the other strikers. He's always there if you need something.
'It's brilliant to have someone in your position and fellow countryman who is always there to help.'

Kenny is also out to help himself and he's already up and running in pre-season with a strike in the 1-0 win against Queen's Park last Friday.
There was another run out back in Ireland in the 2-1 victory at Cork City, where not even a bang on the shin was going to stop him getting on the pitch on home soil.
Celts are stepping up the pre-season preparations against Estrela in Portugal on Saturday before taking on Sporting Lisbon next week.

What happens next for Kenny though is up for debate. Rodgers hasn't decided yet whether it'll be a peg in the first team dressing room or another stint on the road getting game time.
The Hoops gaffer still sees the striker as a long term prospect and the youngster is happy to follow his lead.
In the meantime he's out to keep hitting the net and giving his gaffer food for thought.

Kenny said: 'Yes, 100 percent that's what I want to do. If I get opportunities I back myself to score.
'It was good to get off the mark on Friday and I just want to keep getting minutes and hopefully get more goals.
'I'll leave it to the manager to make a decision on that (his future). Wherever I am, obviously I want to play football.
'I want to develop myself and I think playing games is going to develop me. Obviously, I also want to break into the national team and I think playing games is the way I'm going to get into that team.'

Textor insists Palace influence ‘not decisive' as club fear Europa League ban

John Textor has insisted that he didn't have a decisive influence at Crystal Palace as the FA Cup winners await Uefa's decision on whether they can compete in next season's Europa League. Palace are facing the threat of being demoted to the Conference League by European football's governing body because the American businessman also owns a majority stake in Ligue 1 side Lyon, who have also qualified for the Europa League. The French club have successfully appealed against relegation to Ligue 2, with Uefa having delayed its ruling on Palace last week pending the outcome of Lyon's appeal. Uefa sources have indicated that its Club Financial Control Body (CFCB), which investigates alleged breaches of its multi-club ownership rules, is due to decide on Palace's fate this week. Clubs are barred from competing in the same Uefa competition if an individual or ownership group is considered to have a decisive influence over more than one of those teams. Textor recently agreed to sell his Palace shares to the New York Jets owner, Woody Johnson, a deal that is expected to be ratified by the Premier League in the coming days. Textor also owns Brazilian side Botafogo, who defeated Paris Saint-Germain during the group stages of the Club World Cup last month, but he revealed that he did not even consider placing his shares in Palace into a blind trust before Uefa's 1 March deadline because it was clear he was not in day-to-day control at Selhurst Park. 'Why should I put my interest in a trust back before March when the rule says you only have to do it if you have decisive influence? I don't,' he told TalkSport on Thursday. 'If I had a decisive influence, then those Brazilian players that just beat PSG in the Club World Cup, half of them would be coming to Crystal Palace next year. But you don't see one single player from our network of clubs that's made its way onto the Palace roster, which is the source of my frustration with the lack of collaboration that we've been able to have with Crystal Palace. I am dumb enough and successful enough to not predict in advance what a governing body is going to say.' Asked what his influence was at Palace, Textor added: 'I helped. I helped a lot. I showed up during Covid. I paid off the Covid debt. I helped finish the academy. The capital, I'm sitting there on the board with four other guys. [Chairman Steve] Parish is making decisions. He's bringing us players. He involves us, but he doesn't really listen to us. He does, but a suggestion from time to time is not the same as decisive influence.' Textor also rejected reports that he had told the CFCB that he had been instrumental in the decision to hire Oliver Glasner as Palace's manager last year. 'I tried to hire him in Lyon. And if [former Palace sporting director] Dougie Freedman notices and he goes to visit him in Salzburg just the way I did and he ends up at Crystal Palace, is there a connection there? I don't know. Steve's not going to be told who to hire as a coach,' he said. 'It's incredibly untrue. We sat in front of the Uefa panel and were extremely consistent on the lack of decisive influence. I don't even know if I suggested him to Dougie but Dougie recruited him.' Textor confirmed that he attempted to take full control of Palace two weeks before the FA Cup final against Manchester City. But he claimed Parish had been given a 'stay of execution' after he failed to agree a deal to buy the 36% stake owned by fellow Americans Josh Harris and David Blitzer, with the threat of being banned from the Europa League having forced him to sell his shares to Johnson. 'This obviously strengthened him in that position,' he said of Parish. 'I think his ambition every year is to avoid relegation. Our ambition is to climb the table.' Asked whether his hopes of taking over Palace had been scuppered by Uefa's rules on multi-club ownership, Textor added: 'I never want to be the man. Ask the guy that drives the red Ferrari that. But I'm not that guy.'

Two burning Rangers transfer rumours spark Hotline hilarity as Ibrox 'desperation' has Celtic fans in stitches

Transfer fever is sweeping the Hotline and a couple of swirling Rangers rumours haven't gone down particularly well. They're sharing a training base with Sheffield Wednesday this week and have been linked with a move to bring Josh Windass back to the club. Peter Cooperwhite said: "Can't believe what I read on the Rangers WhatsApp, now we might be considering Josh Windass. Haven't been massively impressed with the signings but really have to up the ante. Do no big names want to come to Rangers?" They also haven't ruled out a move for 38-year-old Jamie Vardy and Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: "Rangers are now touted as ex Leicester striker Jamie Vardy's new adventure. That's a non-starter Desperation is creeping into Ibrox and they can't attract a high caliber player like the Gascoigne era, more like ones that are looking at their last pay check. "One can see a new name finishing second and it won't be Russell Martin 's new bunch of OAPs (Over Average Players), Vardy or not." Lennon Miller is one of the hottest prospects in Scottish football but Stephen Mulhern, Cork, said: "I read Gordon Dalziel say he feels a imminent move for Lennon Miller is in the pipeline however unless Celtic move out one of their key midfielders, I feel this is highly unlikely to happen. "Celtic won't pay top dollar for him to warm the bench and at this stage of Miller's career, he himself wouldn't accept that. Another word of caution though, I remember David Turnbull arriving with a similar reputation but he never fulfilled his potential so the warning signs are there if paying serious money for him." Donald Dundas, Uddingston, said: "Neither Rangers or Celtic went in for Lennon Miller as none of them want to pay top dollar to a Scottish football team. They would much rather take them on compensation deals or out of contract. As for Lawrence Shankland, he wouldn't be a success at either of the Old Firm I'm afraid." Scott McAdam, Glasgow, had a few stern words for Hotline regular George Wilson. He said: "I must admit its hilarious watching George Wilson backtrack after the nonsense he spouts about Europe. Only he would think Man Utd or Spurs or Nice are on a par with Atlanta and Bayern Munich. "Congratulations George you are now at Alan Flett's level of knowledge which is limited to say the least." Along similar lines, Glen Mitchell said: "To all the Ibrox blowhards, who keep going on and on about how great their team are in in the second level Europa League. Just to put it simply, think of it the same way as thinking that Falkirk are world beaters for performing well in the Championship. "The clue is in there somewhere for you and it's not rocket science. And when you actually ever win a match in the Champions League, then shout about it. Bursaspor was in another time." England Women bounced back from defeat to France with a 4-0 win over the Netherlands on Wednesday night and Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "Fair play to the English Lionesses for their performances at the Women's Euros. They must be absolutely knackered after doing all those adverts."
