New on Paramount Plus this month — all the new shows and movies to watch
Paramount Plus adds tons of new shows and movies every month, and this July is no different.
Leading the pack on the streaming service this month are a pair of hit original franchises back with new episodes.
"Dexter: Resurrection" continues the "Dexter" franchise, picking up mere weeks after the events of "Dexter: New Blood." But we've abandoned the small town of Iron Lake, New York, and are headed for the Big Apple in this new spin-off.
Later in the month, "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" returns for its third season. The prequel series premieres on July 17, and if you ask any "Trek" fan, they'll tell you that you don't want to miss it.

"Dexter" has been a massive hit for Paramount. The Showtime original series about the titular vigilante serial killer has spawned 10 seasons of television across three shows, including this latest spin-off.
"Dexter: Resurrection" picks up weeks after the events of "New Blood," in which Dexter (Michael C. Hall) miraculously recovered from a gunshot wound.
But when he wakes in his hospital bed to find Miami PD Captain Angel Batista (David Zayas) waiting to bring him to justice, he ditches the small town of Iron Lake, New York, and heads for New York City to disappear — and find his missing son, Harrison (Jack Alcott).
Premieres July 11 on Paramount Plus Premium
"Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" stars Anson Mount as Christopher Pike, captain of the USS Enterprise.
Now, if that name — and that ship — sound familiar, that's because they're both famously from "Star Trek: The Original Series." This series is a prequel to that groundbreaking sci-fi show, set in the decade prior.
Because it's a prequel, Captain Pike isn't the only familiar name. Spock (Ethan Peck), Number One (Rebecca Romijn) and several other characters have returned. The season 2 finale even saw the arrival of Starfleet engineer Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn).
Season 3 will cover the third year of the Enterprise's five-year mission, marking the midpoint of the series. If you have loved "Star Trek" in the past, it's time to return to the fold for "Strange New Worlds" if you haven't already.

I'm not a huge reality TV fan, but I make a few exceptions.
"The Traitors," of course, is one. But "The Challenge" was the first competition show I really got into.
For those who have never seen "The Challenge," the reality competition show pits dozens of competitors against each other in grueling tasks and brutal eliminations. But the show's secret sauce is the drama between competitors we see play out in the house once the day's events are over.
Lately, it's been a show more about athletic prowess than social game, which is why I've come to love "The Challenge: All Stars." This version of the show features older stars from seasons past who know your social game matters as much as your physical strength.
Because all the "All Stars" are veterans, they also bring plenty of baggage when they come to compete. In season 5, the competitors are paired with one of their historic rivals, and you'll have to tune in to see who can stand to work with each other and who still holds a grudge.

Paris Jackson 'concerned' about Michael Jackson estate payments
Michael Jackson's daughter Paris Jackson is "concerned" about payments being made by her father's estate. The 27-year-old singer has objected to a request for court approval of the estate executors' "premium payments" to three law firms in her position as a beneficiary of the Thriller hitmaker's estate. In documents filed on 24 June and obtained by People magazine, Paris is expressed her concern over an alleged "practice of granting so-called 'premium payments' for unrecorded attorney time, much less paying one-hundred percent of any such extraordinary amounts." The paperwork named a six-month period in 2018 when executors requested approval for $625,000 in payments for "uncaptured time" without explaining "as to why counsel was incapable of recording unbilled time, or why such a failure should not preclude payment." Two of the firms had received their prospective payments, in breach of the "Court's order allowing only partial payment of attorneys' fees until Court approval is obtained." The documents added: "Even worse, these payments appear, at least in part, to consist of lavish gratuities bestowed upon already well-compensated counsel. "[The payments] raise serious and substantial questions about Executors' ability to effectively supervise counsel, by, at minimum, requiring that counsel record their time in a manner susceptible to at least superficial review and oversight, namely by means of task-billed time entries, and refraining from wasteful, six-figure gift-giving to themselves and their colleagues." Paris is also said to be "concerned" about the executors' alleged "gross lack of diligence in seeking the required Court approval for extraordinary fees and costs" for the 2018 payments and lack of explanation about the delays. Paris' attorney, Craig Peters, claimed there was "no written agreement" authorising executors to seek approval for fees in six-month increments and requested a "schedule for all of the outstanding approvals, both the accountings and the legal fees." Lawyers for the estate insisted nothing untoward had happened. Jonathan Steinsapir told People: "The Executors' approval of payments to attorneys have been made with the same business judgment that has earned this Estate over $3 billion. "We are confident that the objected-to payments are appropriate as, indeed, they are fully consistent with payments made in the decade prior, all of which have been approved by the Probate Court." Insiders explained the "premium payments" are connected to the sale of Michael's stake in EMI to Sony. A source said: "They are objecting to relatively minor bonuses to three firms for work on the EMI catalogue sale in 2018. "The estate, assisted by these lawyers and others, bought a 10% stake in EMI for $50,000 in 2012 due to a contractual right we had with Sony. "In 2018, the stake sold for almost $300 million! Any business in this position would reward those who worked on that matter through the years. "They also claim that the estate had to withhold 30 percent of all fees pending court approval. On that, they are simply mistaken and do not understand the court's orders. The estate has paid bonuses like this to attorneys for years and they've all been approved without any objections." At the time of his death in 2009, Michael - whose sons Prince and Bigi are also beneficiaries of his estate - was over $500 million in debt to more than 65 creditors. A hearing regarding the matter is scheduled for July 16.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander recently won an NBA championship, the scoring title and MVP awards for the regular season, Western Conference finals and NBA Finals. Jaren Jackson Jr. took home the DPOY award, Trae Young led the league in assists last season and Michael Porter Jr. added an NBA championship to his resume. Interestingly, none of these stars were the first overall pick in the draft — that honor went to Deandre Ayton. While Ayton hasn't exactly underperformed, having been a key piece in the Phoenix Suns' run to the NBA Finals, he hasn't fully lived up to the expectations of being the first overall selection. For years, debates raged between Luka and Trae over who was the best player in the class, only for Shai to quietly take the throne after his performance last campaign. Doncic, still widely regarded as the most talented player from that class, was recently traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in a shocking turn of events. This season, he's on a mission to prove he can lead a team to a championship — and joining him on that quest is his new running mate in the City of Angels, Ayton. Luka is a once-in-a-generation player, and I'm happy to be his teammate. Ayton doesn't fit Doncic's mold exactly Doncic prefers rim-running centers who are vertical lob threats at the basket and make perfect pick-and-roll partners, much like Dwight Powell and Daniel Gafford were for him in Dallas. Ayton doesn't fit this mold exactly. His game offers a wider range of offensive options beyond just setting screens and catching lobs. Although he certainly has the basketball IQ to adjust his game to complement Doncic's style. Advertisement However, the real concern lies on the defensive end. Neither LeBron James nor Luka Magic is known for their defensive prowess, and Ayton hasn't built that reputation either. In fact, when Ayton first entered the league, his draft profile pointed out: "Ayton's shot-block rate (2.3%) was considered low for a player of his size. He lacked consistent effort and awareness on rotations and often got caught ball-watching. He struggled guarding in space and wasn't quick to read and react to screen actions — considered a liability in defending modern spread offenses." Scouts were right — Ayton hasn't yet stood out as a defensive factor in his career. This could be a worrying weakness for the Lakers' frontcourt. Opinions on the trade are divided league-wide, and Kendrick Perkins sent Ayton a clear message that this might be his last real chance to prove his worth in the Association. "You got your hands full," Perkins said. "So, this should be a moment where you go in and check yourself and say, you know what? I'm about to lock in. People need to see that you're committed to doing the little things, right? You got a tough Western Conference." James is also ain't getting any younger, while the pressure on Doncic to win a title grows with each passing season. Lena Dunham made her TV return this week when her new series Too Much landed on Netflix. The much-anticipated rom-com series stars Hacks' Megan Stalter as New York workaholic Jessica, who moves to London after a dramatic break-up and swiftly falls for a mysterious musician, played by The White Lotus' Will Sharpe. Whether you're yet to give the series a try, or you've already sprinted through all 10 episodes, there are definitely more than a few faces on the star-studded cast list that you'll recognise. Here's where you've seen the cast of Too Much before... Too Much's lead star is best known for her breakout role as Kayla in the dark comedy Hacks. But before her TV career exploded, you might have seen her in many a viral online comedy skit. Since those early days, Megan has also landed roles in Queer As Folk, Sometimes I Think About Dying and the animated sitcom #1 Happy Family USA. She was also in the music video for Kacey Musgraves' song Simple Times along with Muna's What I Want. The White Lotus fans will instantly recognise Will Sharpe for his role as Ethan in season two of Mike White's much-hyped series. He also appeared in last year's Oscar-winning A Real Pain alongside Kieran Culkin and Jesse Eisenberg. Going back further, Will was a staple on medical drama Casualty between 2009 and 2010, playing junior doctor Yuki Reid. The multi-hyphenate writer, director, actor and producer had her breakthrough with her semi-autobiographical 2010 feature film Tiny Furniture, after which she shot to mainstream fame by directing and starring in the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Girls. She has also been in films like This Is 40, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and I Wish You All The Best. The French actor is best known for her role in the coming-of-age story Blue Is The Warmest Colour. She also gave a moving performance in the 2023 film Passages, while her other past projects include Wingwoman, Orphan and Race And The Jailbird. Just last year, she was also introduced as the voice of Ennui in Inside Out 2. The British actor, model and mental health advocate spreads her time across various pursuits these days. As a model, she was notably the first cover star of British Vogue during Edward Enninful's tenure, and her big acting break came when she landed the role of Becks in Top Boy. Adwoa has also been in Ghost In The Shell, Satisfaction and To Get Her. Prasanna may have appeared only in two episodes of The Crown's fifth season, but the British actor made a big impact with his crucial role, starring as Martin Bashir, the journalist who famously (and, now, controversially) interviewed Princess Diana for BBC's Panorama. Reuniting once again with Lena, Andrew Rannells played Elijah throughout all six seasons of Girls. Big Mouth fans will also recognise Andrew's voice as Matthew MacDell in the US animated sitcom. His other previous roles include A Simple Favour, The Prom, The Intern and Bachelorette, along with TV shows Girls5Eva, Welcome to Chippendales and Black Monday. Andrew is also a huge name in the musical theatre world, appearing in major Broadway shows like Hairspray, The Book Of Mormon, Hedwig And The Angry Inch and Hamilton. Janicza is actually best known as a director and writer. Not only does she play Kim in Too Much, but she also directs episode eight. She's previously helmed the movies Zola, Lemon and In A World…, along with single episodes of The Bear and Poker Face. As for acting, she was in Lena's 2022 movie Sharp Stick and her TV series Camping. Dean-Charles has certainly come a long way since we saw him on our screens as Tommen Baratheon on Game Of Thrones. His impressive resume also includes movies like 1917, Before I Go To Sleep, Blinded By The Light and The King. He also previously worked with Lena on her movie Catherine Called Birdy.
