He has since chased home the brilliant Field Of Gold twice, placing fourth in both the Irish 2,000 Guineas and in St James's Palace Stakes ahead of a first attempt at a mile and a quarter at Listed level this weekend.
Meehan said: 'He's very well and we're on a finding-out mission to see whether he'll get the trip.
'There was never any question mark about whether he'd get the mile, if anyone had doubts about that they were obviously watching a different horse to me, but the mile and a quarter is unknown territory.
'I've always felt he would stay and we're doing it try to open up more possibilities for him. He's a Group One horse and he needs to have different bullets in his arsenal really, to give him options to try to get that Group One win.
'He ran very well in the Irish Guineas and I was happy with his run at Ascot. He was hampered twice by two different horses up the straight and I felt he ran a very solid race.'
With rain forecast, conditions could ease at Newbury, which Meehan admits may not be ideal given the question marks over his stable star's stamina.
He added: 'I don't think cut in the ground bothers him, but I don't know how I'd feel about soft ground on a fact-finding mission over this trip.'

Charlotte Watson celebrated her 100th cap for Scotland with a spectacular solo goal, but the Tartan Hearts were broken by a 4-3 scoreline in the second of two hockey Test matches with France at The University of Edinburgh Playing Fields at Peffermill. Now she is looking to help steer Scotland to a high placing in the EuroHockey Championships also in Munchengladbach. At her last appearance there she scored a memorable and game-clinching goal as Scotland edged Spain 2-1 to record one of their finest victories in recent times. Spain were ranked No 8 in the world at the time, Scotland were No 19, but Watson was sent clear by Dunfermline-raised Eve Pearson and she slid the ball low into the right-hand corner for 2-0. Naas triumph has Sky Majesty camp thinking big
The three-year-old daughter of Blue Point won both a Group Three and a Group Two as a juvenile and was not too far away from the action when eighth in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. Connections felt the prevailing quick ground at the royal meeting was perhaps not to her liking and she showed her true colours back on an easier surface after being sent to Ireland earlier this week, claiming a smart victory in the Yeomanstown Stud Irish EBF Stakes for trainer William Haggas. Sean Graham, racing manager to co-owner Tony Bloom, said: 'We thought she ran well in the Commonwealth Cup, Tom Marquand said she probably wasn't letting herself down properly on the very quick ground at Ascot. 'Her best run last year, when she won a Group Two, was in France and that was on heavy ground, so we were delighted when the ground was on the easy side at Naas. 'The first couple of races showed a draw bias, you wanted to be drawn high, so we were slightly worried when she was drawn in (stall) two but in fairness to Tom, he got out of the stalls very quickly and I think that made all the difference.' Sky Majesty was saddled with a penalty at Naas and will encounter similar burdens in races of a similar level, which may push a move towards top-level events when the ground softens. 'She won well there and there are a few options for her now, we'll wait and see how she comes out of the race and we'd be keen to avoid very quick ground with her again,' said Graham. 'We're getting rain but nowhere near as much as we need. She carried a 7lb penalty at Naas because she's a Group Two winner, that makes you want to go for a Group Three but she'd probably still have to carry a penalty. 'We may have to pick and choose where we run her but hopefully she makes into a filly that could run in Group Ones on soft ground at the end of the year. 'We don't want to get too carried away, but it might have done her confidence a bit of good to get her head back in front again. 'William Haggas is a genius at keeping these fillies ticking over and finding races for them to win so that's what we hope to do.'

Liverpool handed positive Alexander Isak transfer update - 'Only see him joining'
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, with the Sweden international said to have asked to leave the Magpies this summer Former Liverpool star Stan Collymore has tipped Newcastle striker Alexander Isak to make the switch to Anfield this summer, claiming discussions have been ongoing for over 12 months. The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Swedish striker for several weeks but appeared to cool their interest when Newcastle refused to do business earlier in the window. In response, Liverpool pivoted to Hugo Ekitike, signing the French forward in a £79million deal. But now it appears Isak is pushing for an exit, with the 25-year-old telling Newcastle his wants to explore his options. As such, the door has been reopened, and Liverpool could be set to pounce. Isak has opted out of Newcastle's pre-season tour of Asia while his future gets sorted ahead of what could be a British transfer record departure from St James' Park. The Magpies are reportedly holding their ground, insisting on a valuation of more than £150m if they are to consider selling him. With the expected exits of Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa, combined with growing interest in Luis Diaz, Liverpool are believed to still be targeting new attackers before the transfer window closes, and Isak remains their top target. Collymore, who scored 35 goals for Liverpool, is confident the move will go ahead. "I can only see Alexander Isak joining Liverpool if he does leave Newcastle, which is now expected," he wrote in his column for CaughtOffside. "I think this has been something that's been ongoing probably for 12 months or more. I think the expectation from Newcastle was that it was going to be next season that other clubs were going to bid. "A lot of fans will want him to be sold abroad, but it doesn't work like that. If the player says that they're going to down tools unless you let me go to this specific club, it's very, very difficult for the club." The addition of Ekitike pushes Liverpool's total summer outlay beyond £265m, and should Isak arrive, the overall investment would likely top £400m. Collymore explained the reasoning behind the club's aggressive spending. He continued: "With Liverpool, I know that there probably will be some room for Diaz and or Nunez to go. But still, at the moment, if they were to get Isak across the line, you've got Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez, Salah, Wirtz, Ekitike, and potentially Isak. That's six top-quality front players. "So for me, it just says that Liverpool now are realising that if they're going to stay top of the Premier League, if they're going to continue to win Champions Leagues, but more importantly, win domestic leagues in the manner that Manchester City have done, they have to accept that Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal are going to continue to spend as more and more money pours into the Premier League. And I think that FSG have realised that they've got to do the same."
